Hunter (RB) ??? - 5/13/08

We just couldn't do the necropsy, the vet said it would cost between $180 -
$200 and with our finances the way they've been it would just be impossible
and irresponsible.

We think we've figured out what may have happened after I talked to my
friend who is a nurse.  Every time Hunter would get excited he'd start
coughing like he was trying to cough up a hairball - which we thought it
was.  When Ben found him he was lying on the bathroom floor and had a small
bit of blood next to his mouth.  My friend says it sounds like he had a bad
heart and an embolism (SP?) or clot was thrown into his lungs.  She said it
would have been a fairly quick and painless death (I'm hoping she wasn't
just saying that for comfort, but if anyone knows better I'd rather not
know).

We've buried him in our back yard next to Bandit and Percy - such a small
hole in the ground and such a large hole in our hearts.  In such a short
while he had really worked his way deeply into our family and we're going to
miss him so, so much.  I've never known a sweeter cat - he was so patient
and gentle no matter what we or the vet had to do to him.

I haven't forgotten about the people who helped us out with getting Hunter
to the vet and neutered.  As soon as we get our incentive check (should be
Friday) we're going to send as much payment back as we can after getting the
other, urgent, problems we have now taken care of (basically just trying to
pay off some bills that we've been late with every month incurring late
charges and getting the ceiling fixed and carpet replaced where the A/C
overflowed).

I am so grateful for all your support, purrs and kindnesses - I don't know
how I would cope with this if I didn't have you guys.

Lori  I am so sorry.  I wish I had some better words

Yes she was telling the truth.  I had a furball die of that.

IF TEARS COULD BUILD A  STAIRWAY

If tears could build a stairway.
   and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
   and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken
   No time to say "Goodbye."
You were gone before I knew it.
   and only Gods knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness.
   and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you-
       No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more:
To remember all the happy times.
life still has much in store

   Since you'll never be forgotten.
       I pledge to you today-
A hollowed place within my heart.
is where you will always stay.

I'm so sorry to hear this. It is true that sudden death at a young age
like that is generally some kind of heart trouble. I'm so sorry.

I'm no expert, but that really does sound logical.  I had a friend who died
of a cerebral hemorrhage -- not the same thing and in a different location,
but I think the information about a quick and painless death would be
similar.  Sylvia collapse at her desk and died.  Her doctor told her husband
that it would have been all other in an instant and that she probably did
not feel anything.  At most, he said, there might have been some momentary
dizziness and then it would all have been over.

Your pain is very fresh, but Hunter's is over.  I hope it gives you some
comfort to know that you gave Hunter the very best care possible and that he
had a far better life for his last few months than he would have had it you
had not welcomed him into your home.

I had just read your message about him getting ready to join the rest of
the clan. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Oh, Lori. I am so sorry. This sounds so much like my Jacky. He also
had
that funny cough. We did do a necropsy, and the vet found his chest
cavity
full of fluids to the point his lungs just could not expand to
breathe. The vet
said it looked like FIP to him, but to send away samples of the fluid
was $200
more, and like you, at the time we couldn't afford it.
What a horribly shocking, tragic thing. I just hate it for him and for
you, too.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Lori.  I know this is crushing.  Such a
shock.  My heart goes out to you and Ben.  And thank you for all you did for
little Hunter.  At least he knew a good home in his short life.  He was
loved.

I just went and looked at pictures of Hunter on Lori's site (from when
he was still called Garvin), and I was reminded of his cute habit of
kneading the ground. I also watched a Youtube of him purring. He was
such a cute and sweet kitty. <sniff...> I'm sorry you didn't get a chance
to have him longer.

Hunter had a name, and a home, and he won't be forgotten.

It's more than many "stray cats" ever have.

I've always felt that when Smokey goes, we can't begrudge him, he was
already on borrowed time.

But some can borrow more time than others.

Purrs for Hunter's crossing.  Thank you for giving him a home on this
earth.

Dear, sweet, lovely little boy.  I'm comforted to think he didn't suffer.
Poor Lori, you and Ben must still be in so much shock.  We are sending you
and your whole family the most comforting purrs.

I'm so very sorry that your sweet, wonderful Hunter has gone to the
Bridge; so suddenly, and at such a young age.

I'm glad that he didn't suffer, at least.

Purrs for those left behind.

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about Hunter.  I don't post very often, but I do
read the group every day.  An embolism to the lungs is virtually painless.
(That is what killed my DH 8 years ago.  He stood up, sat back down, slumped
over, and was gone.)

I am so very, very sorry to hear this news, Lori. We'll light a candle
for Hunter. If it helps any, from the probably cause you describe, it
would have been pretty instantaneous, he wouldn't have known anything
about it.

At least he now has someone to wait for at the bridge and he felt love
& kindness in his short life.

<hugs back>

This sounds very much like what happened to our Winnie. He collapsed
and was found on the kitchen floor. He wasn't deceased but the vet,
when we got him there, said he wasn't in pain but he was never going
to wake up. It was his heart. He left us after being brought home and
put in a comfortable spot to rest.

If your Hunter needs to be shown the ropes at the Bridge, he will get
lots of offers. Winnie hasn't been there long but he will be glad to
help.

I don't concern myself w/what Hunter died of....and won't speculate.
Please
know that I am grieving w/you for loss of Hunter; I wish you would
comfort
yourselves, you and Ben, by the knowledge you geve him happiness, a
full
belly, medical care, and love during the short time he was with you.
My lost
beloved cats at the RB are welcoming him now to his "waiting home"
where
he will want for nothing and know no more pain or anxiety.
