Ben just called me to tell me that he came home and found Hunter on the
bathroom floor dead! We don't know what could have possibly happened. The
only thing we could think of is we used Advantage (from the vet) on him on
Saturday - maybe he had some kind of reaction to it? I don't know - I want
to have a necropsy done but Ben says we can't afford it. But what if it's
something that the rest of my cats could have gotten (we used the Advantage
on them too). He seemed perfectly fine when I left this morning! I can't
believe this! OMG I'm praying the rest of them are OK, I just can't believe
this. I gotta go, I'm going home now.

I'm so sorry. I understand your shock. At least call the vet to find out
how much a necroposy would be. It wasn't all that much for Rosie. I just
could not have stood not knowing what happened to her.
Likely cheaper in the long run than worrying at every little thing on your
remaining cats for months and months.
Its almost a guarantee that if you never know what happened to hunter you
will worry yourself sick about everyone else.
Again, I'm so sorry you have had such horrible news and such a shock.

Lori, I'm so sorry, what a shock! I wonder what could have happened
to him?
I agree with the others who have urged you to get the necropsy. I've
never had one done, so I don't know what they cost, but since Jo says
they're not that expensive, maybe you *can* afford it. And if not, then
I will also chip in to help. Otherwise, you will always be wondering
what went wrong, and maybe blaming yourself.
I'll bet it wasn't the Advantage, though - if he was allergic to it
or something, you would have known before today! Allergic reactions
don't take 3 days to show up.
Lots of purrs for you and your household, and for poor Hunter. :(

Oh dear, this is so sad. If I were to guess, an undetected heart
condition is the most likely reason for sudden death in young cats. I
think you need to find a way to do the necropsy, especially since you
have other cats. Doesn't Hunter have a brother? If so, this is even
more of a reason to have the necropsy done. If it is a heart
condition, these can sometimes run in families and it will help you to
keep an eye on the other one healthwise to hopefully avoid having this
happen again (provided I am remembering this correctly.) If he had a
reaction to the Advantage, it probably would have been noticeable
enough that you would have known something was wrong.

I am so sorry. What a terrible, tragic event. I do think it is *essential*
to have a necropsy in a case like this, especially when you have several
other cats. I know finances are limited, but you need to know if there is
anything you need to check in your other furbabies. I doubt if it was a
reaction to Advantage because it has been several days since that was
administered.
Again, I can't express in words how sincere my sympathy is. I would be
devastated, as I am sure you are.

Oh, Lori! I am so sorry - he was a beautiful boy, and I know that you
loved him alot. He reminded me of my oranj RB boy, Jeremy. Such a sweet
boy. :(
My son lost his cat Spencer that way last year. He played with Spencer,
then went to take a shower. When he got out of the shower, he noticed
'pencer laying in his favourite sunspot. He went over and nudged him,
telling him to get his lazy fuzzy butt up, and he was gone.:9
Bast only knows why he went early, but the RB crews are greeting him
now. You will see him again, of that I am sure.

I'm stunned.
I'm so sorry. It doesn't make sense that Hunter--happy and sleek in
his new home--should drop dead for no apparent reason.
Please take comfort in the fact that Hunter passed in a home, where he
was loved and cared for, that you made his last days happy ones, he
finally had a home and his own family, instead of dying alone from a
car strike or something. Please don't feel you "hurt him" because he
was at much more risk if you'd left him outside, if it turns out to be
a freak reaction to something he got into in your house or something.
You did the very best for him. And he knew he was loved.
Bright Blessings to you.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, Lori!
Not that it would help any, but Tripper's brother died
about as suddenly, back in 1996. He was jumping from one chair
to another, and just dropped to the floor. The necropsy
showed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy...enlarged heart. According
to the vet, it's usually indicated by a murmur, and one symptom
can be panting after mild exertion, which Mouser displayed.
He was only 3 years old. Whether it was for comfort or fact,
the vet said he was probably gone when he hit the floor.
So, at least Hunter had a chance to be loved, and had a place
to call home. Sometimes that's the best thing we humans can
give....
Purrs and deepest sympathies for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Hunter's passing to RB! As far as Advantage is
concerned how much does Hunter weigh? Was he given the Kitten or an
Adult dose of it? As far as I know Advantage is pretty safe. Both of my
Adult cats have ingested some of it with no ill affects. But then they
are adult cats. Did he show any signs of external trauma, maybe a
spider/scorpion bite?
In any case purrs are provided to you and yours on Hunter's passing.
