adopted a female stray and have 2 questions

Bonnie was a stray but I don't know how long. She vomits dry cat food,
eats human food every chance she gets and it doesn't matter what. She
tries to steal food off my plate and she is very sneaky and fast.
She'll eat anything and scarf it up like a Hoover.

I'm trying to get her on a raw food diet. She prefers cooked steak to
raw beef.

She'll eat veges, potatoes, bacon, eggs, anything. Anything except cat
food.

She has gained almost 2 lbs. in 1 month which is a lot for a cat. My
vet said to feed raw and that she shouldn't gain anymore. She was 8
lbs. when I got her and is now 10.5.

also, this is my 1st time owning a female cat--

and she is super clean with the butt area. She grooms herself and
takes out her own mats. She keeps her butt area so clean. I've never
had a cat like that before. My boys sometimes didn't even cover their
poo and if diarrhea were too occur, they just let it sit on their fur.
Are all girl cats so clean?

10.5 lbs doesn't seem like a lot to me. Isn't that about average for
a housecat? If she's been a stray, maybe she needed to gain that weight.
I can understand your concern, and it would be good to watch her (and
to get her on a proper diet for a cat), but it doesn't sound like there's
a weight problem right now.

Not Smudge! She sometimes has poops stuck to her fur, which is utterly
gross. I don't mind a small solid one, that can be easily removed, but
when it's soft or diarrhea, it gets all smooshed into her fur. UGH. I
solve the problem by putting her outside until she cleans herself! She
eventually does, but sometimes she's not in such a hurry about it.

And she never takes out her own mats. When I try to remove them, she
bites me (not too hard, but definitely in a pointed manner that says
"don't do that"). But sorry, I have to do it. Otherwise, she'll end up
at the groomer's, and that would be much, much worse for her.

By contrast, Licky (the boy) is quite fastidious. So's Roxy, my other
girl kitty. They're both shorthairs, maybe that's the difference?

I guess the increase in weight in such a short time is a concern.
I've only had her since March 17. I guess it doesn't matter the sex
if fastidious with cleaning. Bobby is such a mess some days. I guess
I am used to cleaning butts. So much said for my life. Ha Ha

All three of mine are very clean about themselves. A friend had a cat who
would only eat people food. He boiled chicken and fed veggies with it. As
time went along, he would cook the chicken less and less until the cat would
eat it in small raw chunks.

Bonnie will eat raw chicken if I feed it too her by hand. She scarfs
it up as fast as she can. She eats everything I guess is the problem.

always fun but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Got to break that habit quick . I lock the furballs in a seperate room when
I am cooking, got guest over or I am trying to eat my food. I had to go to
the bathroom real bad two nights ago the little devils pushed the door open
they snagged a pork chop lucky it was boneless.

I have had several it seems most female cats are cleaner than males guess
it not jsut a species thing. Limo likes cooked ham but Ka'shay could care
less about anything except her fancy feast dry food and occasionaly turkey
flavor temptations

Some cats are like that Rumble is very matriculate about that also

She's vomiting the dry food because she bolts it down too fast and her
tummy can't handle it... it sounds like she's still in the 'I don't
know where my next meal is coming from so I've got to eat it all RIGHT
NOW!' stage. It might help if you feed her at the same set times
morning and night so that she knows that yes, there WILL be another
meal coming along later... Silly will eat anything in sight, but I've
got her persuaded that dinner time will NOT come before six o'clock,
no matter how much she yowls about it. And she doesn't recognise 'cat
food' as being good because she's used to scavenging from dumpsters
and stuff, poor baby.

And that's not good for her.

Persia has a set feeding schedule - no later than 7AM in the morning and 6PM
at night. Oh sure, she'll try the "But I'm STARVING!!" routine every chance
she gets. But she has learned very well the meaning of, "It's not time
yet." She literally halts in her tracks when I say it :)
