Watching usual late-night StarTrek Voyager rerun, the deck screen door
was wide open as
no breeze and unusually warm night....suddenly, all 3 cats come
swarming into room bellowing
at full volume....I would guess, "Prey! Prey! Hot diggety, something
*live* to chase!" (they
never go any farther outside than the goodsize fully-railed wooden
deck)....running at top
speed, I tore myself away from the tv to see a fast-moving bat flying
from wall to wall and also
down the long hall leading to bedrooms, etc. I jumped up and promptly
fell over Rowdous, the
half-blind largest of the 3. I had tangled with bats living nearby in
CA many years before, in
my youth (one flew into my then-abundant hair, which I ripped out,
knocked to concrete patio,
and proceeded to beat on with broom business-end...bat got his act
together and flew back
into the large home-tree next door) and was now fearful it would fly
into my hair, but no, Miss
Maluce (Moosker for short) the oldest, with meezer blood, had what my
relatives call the
"death-stare" aimed at the intruder, who was tiring rapidly from so
much rapid non-stop flight.
A relative got the broom and after many tries, convinced the bat to
"exit-stage-left" back out
the deck slider door into the night...to the cats' complete and utter
disappointment. I think it
was a small fruit-type bat, and despite guilt at forcing their 'prey
back outside, dreaded the
idea of any of them consuming a possibly rabid rodent, even for sport,
not to mention
cleaning up various bat part remains the next morning. Screen will
remain closed evenings.
That sure livened up Tuesday night (didn't know it was Hairball
Awareness Day as well).

How funny, glad no damage or injuries!
Charleen and cats who would have loved to
have joined in the chase.
