After my mom's dog Cali went to the Rainbow Bridge, everybody was having a
bit of trouble adjusting. My brother Pat's dog Maggie, though, is having
bigger problems adjusting than either of the two humans. She seems to be
really missing Cali.
Mom just adopted a young coonhound named Daisy. Daisy is settling in quite
nicely and Mom is really liking having a dog around again. Maggie, though,
is NOT thrilled. She appears to be terrified of Daisy, though there have
been absolutely no signs of aggression.
Maggie had a very unpleasant life before Pat adopted her. I won't go into
the details, as it would make me very angry just to relate her story and
would undoubtedly bother many people here. But she is now a well-loved,
very pampered girl. Her past, though, makes her very timid and afraid of
change. Her fear of Daisy is making things very rough on Mom and Pat.
Purrs for Maggie to get over being a Diva-Doggie, settle down, and accept
Daisy would be greatly appreciated.

Poor Maggie. I can't imaging anything much sweeter than a coon hound named
Daisy. But Maggie just doesn't understand - yet.
A little extra sharing of treats, always Maggie first and most, whenever
they get together might help. Most dogs are very easy to bribe.
Kayla is sending 'don't worry, be happy' sighs to Maggie, and tail wags to
Daisy.
Jake and Molly will purrs quietly.

If I thought of any occasions as sacraments, that would be one of
them. Good luck to you and the dog that picks you out.

It's been two weeks now, and we never dreamed that the adjustment would go
this smoothly and this quickly.
Maggie has never been willing to go in Pat's back yard by herself. No
idea why, she just refused. If Pat would carry her out to the back
yard she would immediately turn around and run back into the house. If
Cali went out back Maggie would go with her, but never by herself. Just a
couple days after I posted my original request, Maggie took Daisy out back
and showed her the turkeys. Now when Daisy comes over to Pat's, the two of
them go out back and play.
Peace reigns again! And purrs once again have worked wonders.
