No not the gross out reality-TV show, but...
We are having a new sofa delivered today. Been wanting one for a long
time, and this is what we're doing with out tax refund:)
In the process of moving the old one out to make room, Moe turned up
missing.
We looked for her for 20 minutes, sealing off each room as we searched
it (thereby trapping some other kitties in those rooms).
We even searched the old sofa, to make sure no cat could have hidden
inside it (old sofa in sitting on our front walk, waiting for some
freecycler to take it), and around the big out, in case she slipped
outside without us noticing... We even checked the utility room where we
have Smokey sequestered alone until she's "better"...
No Moe, nowhere!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh
This is where the fear factor comes in. All our kitties are inside
kitties. Closes they get to the out is when the windows are open, and
there's only a mesh screen separating cats from outside.
Well, after the 20 minutes of us calling her, she decided it's safe for
her to crawl out of her hidey-hole (I think she was under a small
cabinet on the back porch).
She got pettins and skritchins for showing up.

I hope it's the true refund and not that stupid "stimulus" rebate. IMHO
that should be invested, stashed away, not used. Not used to "stimulate" an
already failing economy because spending money we don't normally have isn't
going to help anyone in the long run.

We haven't gotten the "stimulus".. yet. When we do, it will be invested
in property upgrades (i.e. fencing for the back yard so Annie can R U N)

That's an understatement!

Yup, she loved that part. When the new sofa arrived, we played it safe
this time: all kitties safely locked in rooms, therefore no chance of
curious minds wandering into the big out.

True, that's one of the things that got the economy into the mess it's
in, now! There was a time when people bought a home with the idea that
the mortgage would be paid off by time to retire, and they'd own it free
and clear. (Meaning "free rent" in their old age, with only taxes and
upkeep to worry about.) Then came "home equity" loans, and folks kept
"refinancing" - i.e. borrowing money against the paid up balance of the
(increased) appraised value. Worked just fine, so long as real estate
values kept going up and up, but now...... I wonder how many people
regret not just letting their equity build until they actually OWNED
their homes?

I know that fear factor well! Ours are indoors only, like yours. I'm so
glad she was safe.
