We have an alarm system with glass break sensors. Peter and I had just gone
upstairs to bed and the alarm went off. We think Sam was chaseing Cinnamon
and she jumped on the back of a chair in the living room and then onto the
half wall. I have picutes on it and when we came downstairs to see why the
alarm went off 2 pictures were on the floor.

We had to call the alarm company to report a false alarm. All the cats had
big eyes after all the noise. We have an outside speaker for the alarm.

Reminds me of a time my parents were having Robbie looked after by a
neighbour when they lived in DC. They had gone away for a few days and
on the last day the neighbour lost my parents key. So after panicing,
she called her son in the fire-service, explaining that they needed to
rescue Robbie.

A fire-truck (with neighbours son on board) and 4 firefighters, turned
up and broke in, to rescue Robbie.... It set off the house alarm. What
my parents hadn't told the neighbour, was although the house alarm
could be switched off in the house, if the the alarm went off, it was
automatically notified by the alarm company to the local police and
the Embassy. If the Embassy didn't get a call from my dad verifying
he'd switched off the alarm, the Embassy protocol was to notify the
State department....who followed *their* protocol, which was to send
the secret service to the address to deal with a potential "diplomatic
situation".

My parents came home, to find a firetruck, 4 policeman, 2 police cars
and 4 secret service guys all outside and around the house. Robbie was
asleep on their bed!

As an alarm installer of over twenty years I find this story very
entertaining!
Ann - 22 Apr 2008 02:30 GMT
When we first purchased our house we had plumbers here working on the
kitchen and putting in the pipes for a half bath. We were not living here
yet but, had the alarm system in. We had the plumbers choose a code they
could remember and I think they had a key to the house.

They showed up to work one day and had problems with turning off the alarm.
Every time the dropped or banged something the alarm went off. Finally they
stopped for lunch. They were sitting at the table in front of the kitchen
windows. They put the shade up and there were 2 cops out there. They had to
explain the whole story to them and I think we were called to be sure the
men had permission to be in our house.

Good think the plumbers had a sence of humor.

Who ever said keeping cats was for wimps.

You aren't helping the 'real men prefer dogs' set one bit.

lol -- leave it to cats to manage to do something like that.  Did you
tell the alarm company it was the cats' fault?

Ann - 22 Apr 2008 02:22 GMT
I told the alarm company a picture fell. Not that the cats knocked it down.

purrs that they calmed down quickly. My alarm went off tonight, too,
but turned out someone was actually checking out the apartment getting
ready to break in. I have a sensor on the sliding screen door on the
patio, and when I checked someone had opened the door.

Whoa there.  I hope everyone's ok and not too stressed out.

After checking with the neighbors I learned there have been a couple
break ins here in the complex in the past few weeks. Hopefully, this
will encourage the management to replace the security lights, which
have been burnt out for about six months.

Another thing this latest alarm reminded me of was that my neighbor
who had a remote to turn off and reset the alarm moved out about a
month ago. The alarm dials my cell phone when it goes off, so when she
was here I could call her and have her check on things, and then
either she could reset it with the remote.

When it went off the neighbors had to put up with the noise and flashy
lights until I got home to check things out. The siren turns off
automatically after a few minutes, but the lights keep flashing until
the system is reset. I got home about 30 minutes after it went off,
and by the time I arrived all the cats were calmed down and waiting
for me at the front door, probably thinking since I was home it was
time for dinner ;-)
