Blankets again

I got behind again and can't get caught up, so I'm sending warm blankets
of purrs and best wishes.  I see we have some new kitties, and some
lolcats (not all of which would come up for me), so I'm getting some
smiles from the group today :-)

I'm just hanging in, trying to get done what I can to get my life in
order, but failing miserably it seems in terms of getting ahead of
anything.  I have an oncologist appointment at the end of the month.  I
guess we will know then when surgery will be scheduled.

Karen and I have started our garden.  Long story, but to make it short
(yeah, right!):

Horrible landlord bought old home where I'd live since 1986.  Mean,
nasty, hissspit jerk.  Before I could go back and get them, he had
shoveled under my little urban garden, and destroyed the boxes I had
built.  all plants were gone.

I've been trying to take a walk close to every day; just to get out, get
some fresh air, move my aching bones, and feel a little better while
doing something good for my body.  It's a short walk, mind you, but it's
a start.  And I usually go by the back of the old place.

So the other day I noticed that my iridescent lillies were up.  That's
right!  They got missed by the Plant-Killer of Death!  My former
behind-neighbor, Lovely Linda of the Dulcet Tones, had given the bulbs
to me a number of years ago, and they were the first bulbs I ever
planted.  They're odd lilies (for me, at least), as the shoots come up
in spring, then die back completely, and in late summer/early fall, only
the stalks shoot back up with the lilies on top.  The lilies are
gorgeous; soft pink and iridescent.  I think the Biker Dude's Lady down
the street started these, and passed them on, and now there are several
places in the neighborhood with them.

Well, I decided I was going to Take Back the Lilies!  Along with a few
of the daylilies that had crept over from Linda's yard besides.  So with
my faithful sidekick Karen (aka, my neighbor), we headed out with trowel
and nothing else (oops, should have thought to bring a bag or
something!) on a Sunday afternoon, and we carefully dug up lilies,
lilies, and lilies.

I planted three bulbs.  OMG!  we said, after they were all dug up.
There had to be 20 bulbs!

We carried them carefully down to the new place, dug out a couple of
places for them on either side of our front porches, and planted the
daylilies by her side and the pink lilies by mine.

Just call me a Lily Thief ;-)

And pray they survive their unseasonable rescue!

Purrs for the lilies and for all your hard work.

I know daylilies are pretty hardy and transplant well.  At least the ones I
have in the colors I'm not fond of do.  I've got to do a better job of
tagging those for removal.

And the pink ones you are talking about seem to be really hardy suckers
too.  We see they blooming around here in late summer in the oddest places,
where they have outlasted the homes that planted them.

Good luck with the lilies! I suspect they'll thrive in your care.
There's something
about the continuity of growing things that I love. I have peony
bushes that
have been moved every time we have moved. I also treasure the irises
and
other plants that friends have given me "starts" of, friends who have
since passed away. I think about them every time I look at those
plants.
