Nanki-Poo was very good about letting me catch him and put him in the
carrier for the drive to his radiation treatment. He complained only a
small part of the way.
When we got there, I had to knock twice, to get somebody's attention. Then,
the man who came to the door told me that the machine is broken and they
can't give any treatments. They hope to have it fixed by tomorrow. They'll
call me tomorrow and let me know.
That means that I wasted 75 miles worth of gas, and Nanki-Poo complained
most of the way home. It also means that we'll have another treatment at
the end of the series, so we still have 19 trips to go. :-(
To do them justice, they did try to call me, but I had already left. I can
never be sure of the traffic, so I always allow extra time.

Oh no. How frustrating. 75 miles worth of gas *is* substantial! But
the worst is getting Nanki Poo stressed
for nothing. I hope things smooth out and the rest of your treatments
go smoothly for you.

What a shame! :( Do you have a cell phone? If so, you could give them
that number in case it comes up again. But I guess if you did have one,
then you would have already given them that number. Not that that would
help this situation anyway...

I have a cell phone, but it's never turned on except when I'm making a call.
The man who told me about this said it happens very seldom, and has never
happened after hours before. On the few occasions when it has happened, it
has been early enough in the day that it has been repaired before the next
morning.

The special engineers (they're not computer geeks like GeekSquad, LOL)
are usually *very* busy during the workday as there are really so few
of
them. I have known them to work into the evening on hoomin special
diagnostic machinery like where I worked, but they are highly paid
specialists in their field and enjoy the fact that they are not
required
to work late hours, etc. As I said, I worked "swing" shift and
sometimes
ran into the ones I knew still slugging away but paying these dudes
overtime (which I have also rarely witnessed) would break the budget
of most medical facilities, pretty much.

Well, I'm very grateful that they do their job, and I'm sure there are a lot
of other people who are, or at least would be if they thought about it.

I am wondering if he let you catch him because he know you are trying to
make him better, sorry for the wasted trip, Lee

Joy, hugs to you and petting to NankiPoo for the frustrating time you had.
Hopefully it won't happen again.

I know how those days go. More than once have ridden the 2 hours to
Indianapolis to the VA with my son. When we get there you get "Oh, didn't
someone call you about half an hour ago to tell you that Doc wouldn't be in
today. Umm lady a half hour ago we were at the edge of town.

In a less extreme situation - my doctor's receptionist encourages me to
call ahead an hour or so to see if she's running behind. But if I wait
that long to call, I'll miss the bus, and if she *isn't* running behind,
I'll be late and I really hate being late. When I ask if I can call
earlier, I'm told the receptionist doesn't know by then if the doctor's
running late.
The receptionist means well, but she's assuming all patients either have
a car or are within a very short walking distance of the clinic.
Requesting the first appointment in the morning works much better for me
- but I think other patients have figured that out, and I can't always
get one of those right away.

Aaarrgh, I feel for you! Nothing more irritating than feeling like
you've wasted your time. Poor Nanki Poo, Give him an ear scritch for

Thank you, Sam. They didn't call until after 3:00 today, so I didn't know
whether or not I was going until then. Nanki-Poo cried most of the way
there. Fortunately, he slept most of the way home, but the last few miles
he cried a very pitiful mew. These treatments had better do what they are
supposed to!

{{{{Joy}}}} That sucks.
Hang in there; I know this is a long process, but just keep reminding
yourself that it is finite, and won't last forever. You'll make it
through, and so will Nanki-Poo.

Thank you, Ginger-lyn. I keep reminding myself that it will be worth it.
Fortunately, he seems fine the rest of the time. He's even caught two
gophers in the last couple of days.

One of the few occasions when a cell-phone call is justified (IMO) - but
for some reason, even if they HAVE the number, a lot of people won't use
it!

I don't give out my cell phone number because my cell phone is almost never
turned on.
