Felix's tooth has to come out. He'll have the surgery on the 15th. They
gave me an estimate. $600.00... does that sound about right??

Can't say for sure but Scooter had to have six out a bit over a year ago
and it was $450 so it's not too far out of what, especially if you like
your vet.

to get OEJ's teeth cleaned and 3 teeth removed, including a big front fang
it was under $125.00 about 18 months ago, Lee

I always thought of my vet as expensive, I am not feeling that way now, I
know this sounds odd but I feel I get off downright cheap now, Lee

Yeah sounds about right....
You have
pre-anesthetic bloodwork (if needed)
IV catheter and Fluids
Drugs - pre-op, intra-op and to go home
- pre-anesthetic, pain meds, antibiotics -
Anesthesia gas
Anesthetic monitoring
Teeth cleaning procedure
Dental x-rays (if applicable)
Extraction procedure
suture material
equipment and supplies
coverage for labor and insurance
Yeah i think that's about right....
purrs that it's a smooth procedure....

Ugh, what a mess. I need to have Pua's teeth looked at and I'm dreading
that. We're barely afloat these days. :-(

I wouldn't know about cost. You might try calling a few other vets in the
area to inquire, although they may not want to "share" that information LOL
Purrs for Felix!

It's not really they don't want to share the info......it's REAL hard
to do an estimate on a pet that youv'e never seen. I would get calls
all the time for estimate checks on spays/neuters/dentals.
Every clinic does things differently, Like my last one (sniff) there
would be a basic dental package, but depending on if there were any
extractions varied the cost. Certain teeth require more work to
extract so that's a variable. And it's always why its called an
estimate. :P

I thought that sounded high for 1 tooth. I paid less than $250 for a
dental cleaning at which time the vet pulled a tooth too on Bobby.

I too think that sounds a little high. We paid about $250 to have Mosey's 3
fangs removed, and that included the 'sleep', the overnight stay, and the
meds he came home with.

How old is Felix again??]Old Oliver,Oriental Shorthair, lived
3 more years happily "gumming" his gooshy food and snacking
from his companions' kibble bowls after having nearly all his
teeth removed at age of about 13. It cost me $400 but there is
more to this....I went to a vet who had not been out of vet school
very long; she was engaged to our Head Nurse at my ER. I am
still under the impression she shaved cost for Oliver as she
confided to me that - to use my terms, not hers - he almost
went to the Bridge during the dental extractions because of
his age and the type of anesthetic they used....later the nurse
that I worked with confirmed and added Oliver had received
CPR right on the OR table, and had finally come around.
Not to get nervous but I'd check with the vet about this item
- I think all vets probably know about this by now....Oliver
seemed none the worse and died of old age just before his
close buddy, the Akita, who followed 6 months after.

Rusty was 12 years old when he had 2 teeth removed. I was concerned
because of his age. The vet said he would use gas anesthetic for older
cats. I also agreed to a blood test prior to the extraction to ensure
he was healthy enough for the operation. I took him in the morning and
got him back in the evening. He didn't stay overnight at the vet
clinic.
Rusty was a bit wild when I picked him up. He was ready to attack
anyone that tried to touch him. But once he got home he was his usual
self again.
