We have had some nice spring-like weather again for the last few days. The
kitties spent most of the day in the back yard both Saturday and Sunday,
and I was able to get a little bit of video of kitties rolling around on
the walkway.
This morning as I was getting ready to leave I saw Ranger sitting on top
of the covered litter box by the back window. He was looking quite
intently at the yard. When I joined him at the window I saw a beautiful
fox squirrel picking up some of the seeds that have fallen from the bird
feeder. From the look on Ranger's face I am certain that as soon as I open
the back doors he's going to be out looking for signs of Mr. Squirrel.
We have an interesting collection of squirrels in our neighborhood. We've
got several fox squirrels (the little guys who are mostly orange, sciurus
niger), a few European grey squirrels (the bigger grey guys, sciurus
carolinensis), and a very few melanistic variant european greys (solid
black). The greys stay mostly in the front yard, sticking within two
yards either way of our yard. The foxes are mostly in the back yard trees.
I really ought to get up on a ladder or into the attic crawlspace one of
these days, to make sure the little buggers haven't found a way into the
attic. They can do a lot of damage! I think we ought to be safe, though -
we've fairly new metal siding and a fairly new roof.

Remember to take the box of steel wool with you when you go into the attic.

Dan you best check anyway. You are right they can eat their way through
roofing, insulation wood or whatever crosses their path.
