My Casey died 12/3/2007.  I've missed him terribly.  I wanted to ask
the members of this group if they have ever experienced a deceased
cat's spirit.  I mean I am by no means nuts or nutters or anything,
but about 3 weeks after Casey was gone, I thought he was on the bed
one night walking towards my head.  I actually felt the blankets
pulled like he was walking and the footsteps!  Very strange.  I have
another cat Bobby who was on the other side of the bed at the time.
Am I just imagining this? I do miss him so much.  I had a close bond
with Casey.

Always remember We will be there even if you can't see us.
We are always Watching and Waiting. That cool puff of air you
feel across your cheek, that fleeting touch, the feeling you have
that I was walking across your bed, that moment you swear you can
hear us, that flicker of movement out of the corner of your eye.
Is just our way of saying I love you and I am with you always even
in the darkest time We Will Always Be There. Till our paws touch again
always know we love you and cherished our special time together

That is beautiful, Matthew,

Thank you for posting that..it really touched my heart.

Even now I feel Scooter, a Dog, I feel her lay down and bump the bed in
doing so.  It usually happens when I am upset or lonely.  I know she is here
from time to time and if that makes me crazy well GUESS WHAT  I AM.

It made me cry too, because we lost our beloved Mutt (cat) 12/9/07
Your Casey met  my Mutt at RB,  and they are playing happily,
but here we sit, still in tears. :(

I remember for months after my beautiful boy, Jazz
went to the RB, I kept feeling his spirit jump up on to
the bed in the middle of the night. The bed would sag
and move and I swear I thought it was Jazz. He still
does it sometimes.

I like to believe it....have had dreams where they are with me again,
some of them decades apart in RL. what sweet dreams.

It is funny, but the veil that separates us from them must be getting
thin.... Last week, I got ready for bed, flipping the blankets down
and then shutting off the lights. There wasn't a cat on the bed, but
when I went to pull the blankets up, they were heavy. So, I reached
down to see who had climbed up - there was no one "physically" there.
Whoever it was left, and I was able to pull the blankets up.  A couple
days later I was sitting on the edge of the bed getting dressed, and I
felt someone walk across the bed. They came up beside me, I looked
down - again, no one "phyically" there, but I saw paw dents in the
blanket beside me. I wonder who it is - I would love to see them
again!

This has happened before, right after my Nyota died. I was sitting on
the bed, and felt someone jump up on the bed. I turned to see, and saw
paw dents appear on the blanket. I think it was my Ny, checking to see
that I was ok, and letting me know she was still around.

I miss my babies.

I went to a pet loss group sponsored by the county.  There were people
there that said the same thing.  I just never thought it was real but
now I do know it was real.  No one could tell or convince me it
wasn't.  Especially after reading your experiences.  Casey was too
close to me.  I haven't ever written about the last 10 minutes with
him but that I will keep to myself.  I just felt so close to him.  And
he was thinking I was everything since I had him from 8 weeks old.  I
was his Mother, care taker, and I think we had a very close connection.
Stormmee - 05 Apr 2008 06:18 GMT
and the closer the connection the longer it lasts, I have found that she
usually visits when I am stressed, the dogs do the same, but not at the same
time, Violette hated dogs and I think they know so they always wait until
she has visited now to visit... before she left, they would visit when she
wasn't in the room, Lee

I have seen a certain black cat out of the corner of my eye upon occasion.
I've also felt Penelope snuggle up to me the way she used to when she was
alive.  Berfert a black and white boy, has been known to show up at the
strangest times.  Sometimes, I dream that he's yowling at me.  None of our
cats sound anything like Berfert did.  Strange.

Ocasionally I still get the sense Shmogg is around, just checking up on me
and making sure my current owners are being treated well. I am quite sure he
played a B*st*rd C*t trick on me - with Cary's help - from beyond the grave,
so yes, I think I have experienced a dead cat's spirit, and was very touched
he had come back not only to say g'day but to give me a b*st*rd c*t trick.

The current owners are kooky in their own right (especially Pickle) but not
into b*st*rd c*t tricks - I don't think they are that smart. Smogg was an
evil genius, and would have taken over the world had it not been for those
darn meddling sunbeams :-)

I think Shmogg should've been invited to join the New Feline Order, even
though he was a boy. Sounds to me like he had both the smarts and the
evilness for it.

And I'm sure he and Bandit are cooking up something nasty from the Great
Beyond...

Sampson was a very small dog, not a cat, but yes, he was around.  His whole
life (a few months shy of 18 years) he'd sleep on the bed with me.  He was
small but he was completely protective of me.  I was utterly bereft after he
died.  I had no other pets (parakeets don't count in this tale!).  In one
notable instance, which must have been 6 months after he died, there was a
bad thunderstorm during the night.  I woke up to the crash of thunder and I
stretched my hand out and felt Sampson's fur under my outstretched hand.
Not being fully awake, I was just lazily running my fingers back and forth
over his fur... then I realized I couldn't be doing that!  I wasn't scared;
I felt surprise and then a sense of wonder.  The storm was subsiding, and I
felt him moving away from me down the bed.  I can't really describe the
sensation, sort of a "pulling" of the air around me.  And then he was gone.
I felt very peaceful.  I believe he was just checking to make sure I was
okay :)

These are really nice accounts of visits from our animal friends. I
have had experiences of feeling that extra weight on the bed, as
though a cat were sleeping there or feeling as though a cat was
walking on the bed. A couple days after my cat Bullet passed away I
thought I heard his bell jingling outside. After a beloved rabbit of
mine passed away the lights in the house acted strangely for about a
week (flickering or going off by themselves and then coming back on).
The electrician couldn't find anything wrong with them and I did
wonder if it was my bun messing with the lights telling me he was
still about. I had been so heart broken after he died. I've not had
any sightings though, but I think I would freak out if I did. I would
love to have more dreams about my pets who have passed away though,
but unfortunately it rarely happens.

I think you are really lucky to have these experiences. It must be
very comforting.

get a book on directed dreaming to see if that helps you, it is also called
lucid dreaming, Lee

do a google search and read a bit, it might work for you, I can't recommend
anything as I have naturally always been able to do it and didn't realize it
was different than how most people dreamed for a long time, Lee

It is really cool when you can get it to work isn't it?  I can do it
sometimes.  Usually early in the morning after I sort of but not fully wake
up from a good nights sleep.

yes and it was just so odd when I heard on some radio program some guy
talking about dreaming, and when he described "regular" dreaming I was kinda
freaked out, then when he described the directed and lucid dreaming I was
really freaked out, I rarely cannot direct my dreams, and when I can't its
usually a nightmare, Lee

I tried a 'directed meditation' once, allegedly to 'find my totem animal'.
All was going nicely, i felt relaxed, I was in the forest walking along,
seeing the beams of sunlight through the branches etc etc. It was beautiful.
The the voice told me I am across a clearing with a crystal clear pool.
Before I even aware of what I was imagining, I had stripped off and was
enjoying my frolic in the pond, under the waterfall. At that point, the
script starting saying something about how I noticed the animals appearing
behind the trees, but all my mind's eye could see was the pattern of the
water running over the rocks and splashing into the crystal clear lake, and
thats where the 'vision' stopped. What I was imagining didn't match the
voice, and I could no longer 'believe' the script. Which was such a shame,
because the waterfall was gorgeous, the lake refreshing but not cold, and I
was having such a wonderfully relaxing time with the water massaging my
shoulders as it fell.

I've done this kind of thing before. It takes time to develop, so if
you didn't get to the desired point the first time, that doesn't mean
it can't work for you in the future. That is, if you're still interested.

I actually like the sound of yours. When I've been a part of this kind
of meditation before (we call it "journeying" rather than meditation, and
"power animal" rather than "totem", but it's a similar idea), they talk
about going deep underground. So I would always imagine myself in some
sort of underground location, sometimes with human-built structures
embedded in the ground, sometimes just a hole or cave underground. It
was often a bit suffocating. I like the pool-in-the-forest imagery better.
If I ever do this again, that is what I will try to imagine.

This reminds me of something sort of amusing. Some people tend to get
competitive, no matter what it is they're doing, and spiritual pursuits
are no exception. For a while, about 10 or so years ago, I used to do
this kind of shamanic journey somewhat regularly. And one thing I always
noticed was that some people would have these glamorous animals as their
"power animal". So people would have leopards and wolves and hawks, bears,
male deer with big antlers, etc. You know, cool stuff. One time I did a
journey with a group who were all talking about their impressive power
animals, and mine was a white poodle. :) Hey, I love poodles, and the
one in my "journey" was very sweet.

I had some training to keep my headaches and night terrors under control it
was bio feed back training. It taught you to put yourself in a deep trance
to kill and stop the pain.  In this training you learn how to dream and
control them.  Being on the medicine Inderal you can experience some major
vivid dreams and having night terrors only intensifies them to the point I
have almost had a heart attack.  You start dreaming and you can take control
of the dream  pretty interesting if you are having a nightmare

It's sounds nice though. Worth doing again IMHO, even if just for the
waterfall part.
I've tried similar visulisation techniques for other reasons, but
never experienced anything profound. I do enjoy the visualising part,
it's very comforting and relaxing.

if you find visualization comforting and relaxing you probably will be able
to do lucid/directed dreaming without much effort, maybe some serious
practice but not a hardship, Lee

I am not sure what any of these are but is it anything like this? I
can often ...Be aware I am dreaming even through I can hear the latest
fight outside the kebab shop, traffic noises etc. I can even hold
short rational conversations with Dave whilst dreaming- it's like I am
aware of two things going on at once- if Dave ( or anyone else I am
sleeping next to- come on Johnny Depp!) starts to ask me something
that requires thought or an answer then I am aware of having to "pull"
myself out of the dream to respond but once I have done so I can drop
straight back into dreaming (Indeed while I am talking and
thinking, dreaming seems to go on in the background)

Is this abnormal? I have done it pretty much most of my life more so
as I get older

Nope  you actually are not dreaming but more in a trance state  in between
sleep stages. I learned to do this by biofeedback training to control my
night terrors.  It can interesting but can scare the hell out of you some
times

The next part of it, is can you influence the direction of the dream?  Feel
like you have some influence over what is going on?

I pretty much don't believe in normal/abnormal.  Just a range of things.

same as me, until I heard other people didn't do it I thought it was normal,
evidently we are in the minority... technically lucid dreaming is being
aware you are dreaming but staying in the dream, directed dreaming is when
you direct where your dream is going/doing... if you are a lucid dreamer
this is pretty easy, if not you go through a set of thoughts before sleep to
have the dream you are interested in, Lee

Our RB kitties DO come back and visit.

My brother's deceased kitty Samantha has come back to visit many times.
He has felt her brush up against him, felt her on the bed with him, even
seen glimpses of her.

While Samantha was still alive Pat had an interesting situation. He
would get periodic visits from a spirit cat. She would hop onto the bed
at night, almost every night. He could feel her hop onto the bed, walk
up beside him and curl up to sleep. When guests would stay at Pat's
overnight the spirit cat would join them instead.

We finally figured out that the spirit cat was a friend of Samantha's.
When Sam left for the Bridge, spirit cat stopped visiting.

After Fugazi crossed the Bridge I would often be sitting in the
bedroom by the computer and I could hear a cat messing about under the
table the computer sits on and feel a cat brushing my leg at first I
thought it was Isis but when I went into the living room, she was
sound asleep on the chair. Dave also heard a cat in the bedroom when I
wasn't here and Isis was with him. We also sometimes heard a cat
running about in the hallway at night even through Isis was asleep
between us on the bed- we got used to it and always reckoned it was
Fugazi

A few years after Isis went, on the anniversary of that sad day I
dreamt she was on the bed with me and then she was playing with the
Fabulous Furballs and just as I was about to wake up, she headed off
for the kitchen. As I woke up, Sarsi was lying on top of me and Dunzi
was sitting by the side of the bed, both staring at the door intently
as if they had also seen something

My cat Feather (RB) would often visit me during the time between his
going to the Bridge and WooToo arriving to take care of  me. He would
bump my hand with his head when I was half-awake in the middle of the
night. When he was here, he did that in order to get skritches. After
he was gone, he did it to comfort me in my catless state. He would
also appear in my peripheral vision in an obscure corner of the room
on occasion. He has always been a quiet cat, so he didn't make much
noise on these visits. Since WooToo got here, Feather's visits have
been less frequent but he's still watching. And, of course, I often
visit HIM, in my dreams, where he lives with my RB d*gs BD and
Snowball and they all tend to  hang out a lot at my mom's, mooching
the plentiful goodies.

We just lost the gallant Winnie but I still see him at breakfast time
every day. He still stands there as I walk into the kitchen, his proud
little chest puffed out, demanding that I feed his people. He doesn't
join them for breakfast, as the food is much better where he is. If I
am lucky, he hooks my wrist with his nimble paw, for some pettin. He
has joined the clowder in my dreams.

Micki says that she often feels a cat on her bed but figures it is
Maggy May or Sunrise. Then she realizes that she can SEE both of them.
And she KNOWS it isn't Missy. So that's Winnie also.

I don't think you're imagining it - I've heard too many people tell similar
stories.  I think his spirit came back to let you know that he was doing
fine, young and healthy again, and waiting patiently for you at the Rainbow
Bridge.
