Bonnie has been here 1 month now. At first she would run over to me
and brush between my ankles to greet me and she would sit on my lap
and be very social, but now, she just lays on the bed all the time!
She was a stray and fitting into my home was a challenge. I got lots
of Feliway to help.
She's on some medication (antibiotic) for 2 weeks. (She had a ruptured
anal sac) That will be over Tues. Do you think the meds are making her
feel badly? I have to give her a vile of antibiotic 2x a day for 2
weeks. It's called Clavamox. It makes her foam at the mouth after
administering.
I really want her to bond with Bobby but she doesn't want to. He wants
to, but she hisses at him.

Anytime a cat 'foams at the mouth' after meds is usually because they
are hypersalivating to get the ICKY taste out their mouths. give it
with food, sometimes if can give them runny poo or an upset stomach.
She might just be in a bad mood from all of it
Give her time, cats have their own social agenda.

I feel so badly because I am administering the nasty foul tasting meds
to a newcomer here and I think she is getting mad at me for doing so.
It will all be over 4/9 and maybe she will rebound to loving me again?

I'm sure she will, although she may decide to punish you a little longer
before coming around.
You can't force cats (or people, for that matter) to bond, but they'll reach
a point where they at least get along.
Purrs for a quick healing and forgiving.

purrs for her to be quickly healed, and she'll forgive you.
You'll be juuust fine.

wondering why do the meds have to taste so 'nasty' for the animals?

I don't think that should happen! Have you spoken to your vet
about this?

The vet said it was foul tasting and to try to squirt the med along
the cheek instead of tongue.
I am lucky to have her mouth open. Aiming has come second fiddle
here. The meds cost $49.00 a bottle and I have 2 bottle to go
through. I really want to get this into her little body.

Its okay, i see this all the time....or used to see it :(
They are just hypersalivating.
I used to go as far as to warn the client AHEAD of time aout this so
they don't freak out if their cat starts 'foaming at the mouth'
*sigh*

I've been told that Clamavox can cause gastric upset and diarrhea. So maybe
she is feeling a little punked out from the medication.

Thanks. I've never heard that before from the vet. I only have a few
more days..

not nearly enough time for some cats, if it were Chester he would already be
having a love fest, Trudy on the other hand still would be cussing at her
and you for a new family member, give it more time, Lee

Clavamox is a common hoomin antibiotic here in Oz. It *always* give me loose
bowel, and *always* gives me a yeast infection. When prescribed, I always
ask if there's an alternative - I'll take it if the doc thinks it is by far
the best antibiotic for my condition but I really don't like the 'side
effects' and would prefer something else if it is close to as effective.
Purrs for Bobby to come around.

And those daily beatings from you aren't helping.
