Jusst re-read this and it sounds aweful rude. I'm sorry, thats not what I
meant! I meant "I don't really care about your age, because it doens't
matter one hoot to me. Your are a lovely cat slave,  your age is quite
irrelevant here.

I think you are either in your early 20s (didn't you mention something about
being two college students living together?) or early 30s who and just back
in school after being in the military?

HA! The little chicky at McDonald's the other day gave me the Senior Citizens
Discount. I was horrified. I just came from church and thought I looked pretty

I said, "How OLD do you have to be to get the discount?" She goes, "Oh, I

Sweetie, those little chickies at McDonalds think anyone over the age of
35 qualifies for the senior citizens discount.  I think you look pretty
young for some one who's about my age (49).

The waitress at a Shoney's once gave me the Sr. Citizen's discount 10
years before I would have qualified.  I had no idea I looked that bad.

LOL. About 3 weeks after I turned 50 (in Sept.), I received my first
issue of AARP, like clockwork. :)

American Association of Retired Persons.  Membership gets you great
discounts.  My late husband was six years older than I, so I started
getting the benefits several years before I was personally eligible.

If I may complain for just a moment... I was at first really pleased to
learn that I could get a decently priced health insurance plan through
AARP. But when I spoke to the AARP folks, I discovered that they're only
allowed to sell this one really cr*ppy plan to Californians. That's not
AARP's fault - it's this state's insurance commissioner's doing - but
that was a huge disappointment. I don't have health insurance right now,
so I was thrilled to be eligible for coverage. WHY DO THEY DO THIS???
People in other states can get all sorts of great insurance plans. What's
the deal with California? Do you know anything about this, Joy?

We now return you to the more general age-related discussion.

I don't know anything about it, even though I live in California.  I'm
on Medicare.  The insurance I have through my last employer before I
retired is not supplemental insurance.  They figure what they would have
paid, then see what Medicare pays.  If Medicare pays less than they
would, they pay the difference.  I think they've paid out something like
$4.57 since I went on Medicare.  However, I keep it because of the great
prescription plan.  If I order my prescriptions by mail I can get a
three month supply for $8 - $4 if it's generic.

However, my mother has had the AARP supplemental insurance for years.
She lives in Alaska now, but she had it for several years in California,
and thinks it's wonderful.  If you aren't on Medicare yet, the plan
would be different.

I do have my car insured through AARP, and I'm very happy with that.

My long-lost, John, is 58.  It still surprises him when he's offered a
senior citizen's discount.  Well no wonder... he acts like he's 12 sometimes
;)  We stopped at a liquor store en route to Houston (man, it's hard to find
a "wet" town in Arkansas!) and the woman said to him it's 10% off for
seniors.  He looked at me, shocked, and I nudged him...  Might as well get
something out of getting older!

Along the same lines (and grinning very broadly, she adds) *I* was asked to
show proof of being 21 last month.  Wooo hooo!

My classic experience was in a hospital room at Georgetown, waiting for
an angioplasty. One of the Jesuit chaplains wandered in, introduced
himself, and inquired "Is this your wife and daughter?"

Ex #2 (then active #2) replied, "no, I'm the wife and this is the
ex-wife." (No, #1 is not old enough to be #2's mother).

It was the only time that I've seen a Jesuit at a loss for words.  As he
quickly made an exit, #2 commented to #1, rather longingly looking at
the departing back, "We Catholics, Camille, refer to such as Father
What-a-Waste."

September, you old hag <G>.  You're an old woman compared to me.  Folks,
Sherry doesn't look her age.  I'd have had her pegged for around 40,
except that we'd both posted our relative ages in the past.  Her hubby
is also young for his age and has a great sense of humor.  We wish we
could have spent more time with both Sherry and Steve and their families
when we were in Oklahoma.

LOL.  It was dark, but I could still see both of you.  Bald, or
follically disadvantaged (for the politically correct) doesn't mean old.
My father had only a fringe at age 40.  Rob at 42 has a radiation
induced bald spot, that I call his reverse mohawk.  Mike, at 22 is
already losing some hair at his temples.  Poor kid is going to take
after my side of the family.  Lots of hair that doesn't last long.

Besides I said "young for his age."  I wasn't talking about looks,
though he looks great, I was talking about outlook on life.  I fell for
all our Oklahoma friends like a ton of bricks.  I tell ya, folks; we met
some of the most wonderful people in the world on our trip out west.  I
hope we can see them and meet more in Toad Suck next summer.

Hehehe... in Mexico you get a Senior Discount Card when you turn 65 (I
think), it gets you discounts all over the place. My mom went to pick

The last time this subject came up, I offered a little poem I found
somewhere.  I think it need repeating -

When I turned thirty, the day grew cold.
Nothing could cheer me -- old! old! old!

When I turned forty I managed a grin --
Now maybe life would really begin.

Now that I'm fifty, I'm really quite gay
And sixty seems younger every day.

Fil,

I suspect from reading your posts you are younger than I am.  I consider
myself middle-aged at 44, although Magic Mood Jeep insists I'm not :)  Well,
I suppose if I expect to live to be 100 I'm not middle aged.  But then
again, I never expected to live to see 40, either.

My sweet cat Persia is around 5, maybe 6.  Persia is all grey.  But I
noticed tonight when the light hit her paws just right (she was on her back
asking for belly rubs! the underside of her front paws are going white.  She
has a few white hairs on her belly and white on the underside of her back
paws.)

The vet could only guess her age based on her teeth when she demanded to be
let in my apartment.  He thought perhaps 2 years, maybe 3.  Might be older.
I don't really know.

I 'celebrate' her coming to me on January 6th of each year since 2001.  At
that time, she appeared on my back patio at the door, yowling.  Long story
short, it was very cold and I let her in.  I did try to find her slaves but
to no avail.  She was very cautious that first night.  She checked out the
apartment thoroughly.  I had gone and bought cat food and bowls and a litter
box and litter.  I went to bed wondering what the heck would happen.  Next
thing I knew, the cat (not named Persia for three days afterwards) jumped up
on the bed with me and snoozed on the pillow above my head.

So, I'm middle aged (IMHO) but Persia's age is really unknown.  And since I
don't know how long I'll live, it's really up in the air for me, too :)

Oooh, that's a hard one... I think you are in the mid-twenties or something
like that.

My age? All my official papers say I'm 47, I just can't beleive it... I
think my mental development stopped at around 28, so in my mind I'm still 28
(That was the last time I was asked for an ID card to get in to a place with
an 18 years limit)

I'm 49 going on 5.  I'd guess you as being in your mid to late twenties.

Late 50's.

I take it you're retired military, so I'm guessing 21  plus 20 plus 3
equals 44.

I turned 50 this year in July.  I remember when I thought it was horrible to
be turning 40!  Now I guess I'm way over that hill!  The trade-off is I'm
wiser I think (at least I hope so) and I'm worlds more patient than I was
even 10 years ago -- kids and cats that'll do it to you!

I was born in late December back in '63, which makes me 40, getting on for
41.

Turned 50 this year. Still getting used to it! (The problem with getting
used to your age is that by the time you do, you've already turned a year
older - or in some cases, a decade older. :))

> ...and...how old do you think I am...

I would say late 30s or early 40s. I don't know why I have that impression.

I'll be 70 my next birthday, and don't feel any older than I did when
I got married 50 years ago tomorrow.  Tiger and Tigger are 4 years
old.  TED said they were probably about 16 weeks the first time she
saw them, and it's been 4 years since they showed up on my doorstep.

Ok folks, I confess:  I recently turned 27.

At the other places I frequent I'm used to being one of the older
posters, but here I'm just a kitten!

*kneads*

I left the military for health issues, and also because it's hard to
settle down with a partner and four cats when you're living in a
barracks and moving every few months.

That makes sense, since that would have meant that The Transformers
was popular when you were the appropriate age to play with them and
watch the TV show.

Tak, you should watch a show called "Monk". I think you and he have a
few things in common. :)

Thirty.

Although the nearest and dearest would claim that I'm no older than
12, and that's on a good day.

Mmm... from your writings... p'raps a little older than me. 33? 34?

I'm lousy at guessing ages but I'll say around late twenties - early
thirties?

Probably old enough to be your grandmother.

In my experience, only the very young even CARE about age
(except when considering a marriage partner).  Ergo.....

You're the same age as Rob, my hubby, is.  1962 was also a very good year.

Seems to have been :-) [my DH turned 42 two weeks ago].

Wonder if the 1962 babies will figure out the Question? :-)

Fil, I'm not even sure which gender you are, never mind how old, but  I like
reading your letters. sometimes I get the feeling you are female  when I
first joined this group I thought everyone was very young and wouldn't want
an old fogie like me, how wrong can a girl be. well I'll be 72 next February
but when I saw a new Dr yesterday, about my shoulder, I'm proud to say
