I think you are either in your early 20s (didn't you mention something about being two college students living together?) or early 30s who and just back in school after being in the military?

jXwXeXrXmXoXnXt@sonic.net - 27 Nov 2004 07:41 GMT > American Association of Retired Persons. Membership gets you great > discounts. If I may complain for just a moment... I was at first really pleased to learn that I could get a decently priced health insurance plan through AARP. But when I spoke to the AARP folks, I discovered that they're only allowed to sell this one really cr*ppy plan to Californians. That's not AARP's fault - it's this state's insurance commissioner's doing - but that was a huge disappointment. I don't have health insurance right now, so I was thrilled to be eligible for coverage. WHY DO THEY DO THIS??? People in other states can get all sorts of great insurance plans. What's the deal with California? Do you know anything about this, Joy?
We now return you to the more general age-related discussion.

[quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > > Joyce I don't know anything about it, even though I live in California. I'm on Medicare. The insurance I have through my last employer before I retired is not supplemental insurance. They figure what they would have paid, then see what Medicare pays. If Medicare pays less than they would, they pay the difference. I think they've paid out something like $4.57 since I went on Medicare. However, I keep it because of the great prescription plan. If I order my prescriptions by mail I can get a three month supply for $8 - $4 if it's generic.
However, my mother has had the AARP supplemental insurance for years. She lives in Alaska now, but she had it for several years in California, and thinks it's wonderful. If you aren't on Medicare yet, the plan would be different.
I do have my car insured through AARP, and I'm very happy with that.

I think you [quoted text clipped - 25 lines] > to > show proof of being 21 last month. Wooo hooo! My classic experience was in a hospital room at Georgetown, waiting for an angioplasty. One of the Jesuit chaplains wandered in, introduced himself, and inquired "Is this your wife and daughter?"
Ex #2 (then active #2) replied, "no, I'm the wife and this is the ex-wife." (No, #1 is not old enough to be #2's mother).
It was the only time that I've seen a Jesuit at a loss for words. As he quickly made an exit, #2 commented to #1, rather longingly looking at the departing back, "We Catholics, Camille, refer to such as Father What-a-Waste."

Besides I said "young for his age." I wasn't talking about looks, though he looks great, I was talking about outlook on life. I fell for all our Oklahoma friends like a ton of bricks. When I turned thirty, the day grew cold. Nothing could cheer me -- old! old! old!

I suspect from reading your posts you are younger than I am. I consider myself middle-aged at 44, although Magic Mood Jeep insists I'm not :) Well, I suppose if I expect to live to be 100 I'm not middle aged. But then again, I never expected to live to see 40, either.
My sweet cat Persia is around 5, maybe 6. Persia is all grey. But I noticed tonight when the light hit her paws just right (she was on her back asking for belly rubs! the underside of her front paws are going white. She has a few white hairs on her belly and white on the underside of her back paws.)
The vet could only guess her age based on her teeth when she demanded to be let in my apartment. He thought perhaps 2 years, maybe 3. Might be older. I don't really know.
I 'celebrate' her coming to me on January 6th of each year since 2001. At that time, she appeared on my back patio at the door, yowling. Long story short, it was very cold and I let her in. I did try to find her slaves but to no avail. She was very cautious that first night. She checked out the apartment thoroughly. I had gone and bought cat food and bowls and a litter box and litter. I went to bed wondering what the heck would happen. Next thing I knew, the cat (not named Persia for three days afterwards) jumped up on the bed with me and snoozed on the pillow above my head.
So, I'm middle aged (IMHO) but Persia's age is really unknown. And since I don't know how long I'll live, it's really up in the air for me, too :)

(The problem with getting used to your age is that by the time you do, you've already turned a year older - or in some cases, a decade older. :))

At the other places I frequent I'm used to being one of the older posters, but here I'm just a kitten!

I left the military for health issues, and also because it's hard to settle down with a partner and four cats when you're living in a barracks and moving every few months.
