Fil,
I hope you don't mind, but I forwarded your post about Smokey's
"extreme poke" to a friend of mine who I thought would enjoy it.
I took out all identifying info. (Also, btw, this is the same
friend who accepted your paypal payment when I got you the Feliway.)
Anyway, by coincidence, I happened to have plans to get together
with her last night. She told me that one of her cats, Angus, does
the same thing. And while I was there, indeed, he did. Although he
remained very stiff, and his limbs seemed not to be affected by
gravity. I don't think that's the case with Smokey, is it? From your
description, he sounds completely relaxed.
Angus does a funny thing where he'll be standing up straight, with
his front and back legs slightly apart, kind of a normal cat-standing
position. If you then coo at him (talk baby-talk), he'll flop over
without changing the relative position of any part of his body. So
he is in the same position, except sideways. Wish I had a picture!
Actually, what he looks like is a fainting goat:

No, I don't mind at all!
Smokey's a little stiff (he has to be to keep the leg up in the air)
but the paw at the end is totally relaxed....
Kumani, however, will do this flop thing where she walks up beside you
and then just keels over....totally limp, but just falls over
sideways....flop.

LOL! Angus sounds like a sweetheart. Frank used to do that stiff-legged
falling over bit. It is so funny. Caliban does flop over, but he
incorporates his signature kick-kick-kick in the falling over. Miranda
makes a great to-do of flopping. She stands up, often on her back paws,
against my leg or a wall, and then she slowly sort of slithers down the
leg or wall and ends up on the floor.

Marina, Miranda and Caliban. In loving memory of Frank and Nikki.
