Here are a few pics of Nico, our new kitten.

Mostly of him snoozing in the living room chair, as he's too fast for me
to get a pic of him otherwise.
I'm really amazed, as is DH, at how fast Laku and Nico seem to learn to
get along. After all, they met for the very first time on Monday, so now
they've known each other for just three days. And it's been mostly Laku
doing the learning, as Nico seems to take it in his stride.
The first evening when we brought Nico (then still without a name) home,
we let him stay in the carrier for a couple of hours so that Laku could
sniff at the carrier without having the kitten "in his face". But when
Laku realized there was someone inside the carrier, he jumped and bolted
off. We found him hiding under our desk. Poor baby. We let Nico out of
the carrier, showed him the litter box and where his food was. He
immediately started to investigate the apartment. If he happened to come
"too close" to Laku, Laku hissed at him and bolted off again. And
whenever Laku shifted positions, he walked in a low crouch, slinking
about the place by stealth. During the night there was a series of Nico
"yodeling", indecision of where to sleep, wandering over DH and me as if
we were some mountainous region etc. so that night was *not* calm or
peaceful. From the very first day, Nico tried to establish contact with
Laku, but Laku wasn't ready for it. Nico seems to be an easygoing little
chap, open to new friendships, if only the object of the new friendship
agrees... :)
During Tuesday and Wednesday Laku was apparently getting more and more
used to the idea of the "little grey one". He was hissing less already
on Tuesday, can't remember him hissing at all on Wednesday. And they
even seemed to "talk" to each other yesterday, without anything that
sounded like cursing, mind you. Laku was also calm enough yesterday to
be able to sleep in the same room with Nico, Laku was on one living room
chair and Nico on the other with only a coffee table and about a couple
of metres distance between them. Laku has also followed Nico to the
litterbox in the bathroom, waited for Nico to do his business, watched
Nico scratch around to cover it up and then gone to the litterbox
himself to cover it up some more. LOL
Today Laku has almost been his old self, chatting with us, headbutting
and purring. Only slightly and occasionally jumpy when Nico passes close
by. I even saw Nico pass by Laku so close their sides touched and Laku
just seemed to open his eyes all wide, no bolting off, no cussing. Now
I'm only wondering and waiting how long it will take for Laku and Nico
to sleep in the bed with us or wash each other... :)

He actually has some white (the front of two toes) on his left front paw
too. I figure it is purely for educational purposes, but you'd have to
speak Finnish or Swedish to understand why. Left is 'vasen' in Finnish
and 'vänster' in Swedish, and white is 'valkoinen' / 'vit'. So if the
paw has white on it, it's the left one as the v's coincide there; vasen
- valkoinen, vänster - vit... :)

It seems redundant for us to have to remember two different mnemonics,
so do you recommend us to use "vasen valkoinen", or "vanster vit"?
Nico is a really, really beautiful kitten-cat. I so much like his
coat pattern, which looks sort of a like a dilute or silver sort of
tuxedo.

And the grey areas are not quite what you first think you saw either.
The soft fur on the bottom is darker grey and the coarser hairs on top
are lighter, making it shift in different lightings.

#3 reminds me of Smokey's favourite pose...that belly-open, arms-wide sprawl.
