A Nice Phone Call

Mom's phone rang and she said, "It's some lady for you."  Huh?  The woman
said hi, this is xxxxx with the vet's office.  My heart nearly stopped!
(The last time I got a call from the vet's office when I was out of town it
led to a $900+ surgical bill!)  She said, "Persia and Peaches just wanted me
to call to see how you're doing!"  I laughed (and heaved a huge sigh of
relief).

I've been calling a couple of times a week anyway but it was sweet of her to
call me.  She said they've been giving Persia the run of the cat room
whenever possible, and playing with her, so she's getting plenty of
exercise.  Then she said they tried putting her up front in a large
enclosure so she'd have some extra stimulation but "Boy does she talk a
lot!"  So that didn't quite work out as planned.

Oh, and Hill's is discontinuing her prescription (x/d) food.  It will be
available through June.  There's some other something that will be available
for the animals who currently need x/d.

Considering what it is costing you they should make all of Persia's and
Peaches' phone calls for them! :)

How nice of them to call you!  Speaking of Miss Persia, have you figured out
what your plans are, yet?  I know it's really still way too soon to leave;
especially when you just got your mom eating better and all.  In any case,
give your mom a hug and let us know anything tentative.  :~)

I agree with Kili, it was nice of the vet's office to call you:)

I was so mad at the 'vet' when our beloved Mutt, age 19, who went to RB 'on
his own'
last Dec 9.
He was such a sweetheart, but our normal vet was closed on Monday's so we
took his poor remains to another 'vet' who charged us $50 for a simple
cremation, and we didn't even get a sympathy card from them.  I was so sad
at the time, I was really tempted to call the 'brisk recptionists' at that
office and give them a piece of my mind, but DH needed so much comforting, I
never got around to it. Some 'hoomis' can be really heartless.
Our vet is really wonderful, and I trust him with Mosey, who goes in
for a check-up next month.
Please keep us posted on Persia and Peaches

That was so nice of her. And I love how Persia talks so much.

Yes, I thought it was very nice!  (But don't give me a heart attack, hi,
this is the vet's office calling.  Yikes!)

When Persia first acquired me the vet told me he thought she could be half
Siamese, even though her blue fur and green eyes are dominant.  I have no
idea how he got that impression since she was certainly silent during that
checkup!  BUT, given her talkative nature and slightly raspy voice (and boy
can she get loud!) it wouldn't surprise me one bit :)

To me, even without the colorpoints, a Siamese body and skull shape are
distinctive..  Glad she found someone to call her mommy for her.

Heh.  Me, I knew nothing about cats when she showed up.  This was her a few
months later:

I couldn't tell you if there was anything distinctly Siamese about her or
not.  She has some characteristics of a Russian Blue (the almost
indiscernible black rings around her tail, for example).  She's a lonnng cat
(which I think Siamese are?) but she got hefty, too :)

A lot of people think of the long thin pointy faced cats in the magazines
and show rings when they think of Siamese.  They are an exaggeration of the
breed.

Many people prefer the ones that are a bit heavier and have more rounded
heads.

When we got Jake, we were really looking for a blue point (lighter color)
kitten, but when we saw their parents, the size of them flat scared me off.
The Tom easily was eighteen pounds and all muscle.  The Queen was nearly as
large and was still recovering from a litter of kittens.

I've got nothing against large cats, but didn't want to risk one that size
with a hefty dose of attitude to go with it.
