I highly reccommend getting some kitty/doggie toothpaste for your furry
animals, from your vet.
The enzymes in the toothpaste will help your kitty/doggie's health and you
don't HAVE to 'brush' their teeth for it to work.  Just put some on your
finger and let them lick it off.  Ours is poultry flavored and I'm tellin
ya, Mosey would eat the whole tube, if I let him  Dental hygeine is VERY
importand for our cats, as the lack of it can cause severe problems, like
kidney failure and such.   My vet told me about the fact that just giving
them a 'dollop' each day will help if your pet doesn't like to have their
toofies brushed.
I put some on the end of my finger and offer it to Mosey and I brush his
teeth with my finger and say' brush brush brush" to him when I do that.
The other 3 just will accept the 'dollop' but won't  let me 'brush' their
teeth.
We pay about $6 per tube but it might be a little more expensive where you
are.
Just something to think about:)

Thanks for the heads up, Kyla.  I'll look for it next time I go to the vet.

My TED is very, very good. (And very nice, too.)

She pointed out on my last annual visit that although Kenzie had a bit
of tartar and minor gingivitis, it just wan't enough to justify (her
words) doing a teeth cleaning. I would have agreed if she said it was
necessary, of course.

Strange that she's never mentioned kitty toothpaste; seems like a good
idea, even if it only helps a little. A little is better than nothing.

Kenzie eats a dry food that claims to help keep teeth clean; perhaps it
actually does. TED approves of it, in any event.

Every day is a treasure with Kenzie; I try to treat them that way. There
will only be so many, and then there will never, ever, be any more.

My little dog Sampson (RB 1999) ate dry kibble almost exclusively after he
was a puppy.  When he was somewhere around age 14 he had to have a couple of
teeth pulled.  The vet commented if I'd fed him nothing but wet food all his
life his teeth would be in far worse shape.

Persia eats dry food.  I tried the canned x/d but she simply wasn't
interested.  She scarfs the dry stuff :)  The vet has no problem with her
eating the dry food.

Hmmm, well, I still reccommend getting her some kitty toof paste.
It certainly couldn't hurt.  Mosey only eats canned catfood and goes
in next month for his check-up.
He will NOT eat the hairball stuff TED gave us.  It's tuna flavored.
When I first gave it to him, I just put some on his paw to lick off,
he threw a hissy fit, and peed on the sheet on my side of the bed :/
Now I'll try and give it to him via the syringe thingy the dr gave us.
sigh..

LOL!  Sorry, but Mosey pitching a fit just made me laugh.  I'll ask the vet
about toothpaste.  It depends on what it contains; she's on a very strict
diet.  There aren't even any treats she's allowed to eat.  Never had a
problem with Persia having hairballs.
