Nanki-Poo:  not good

Joy - 24 Mar 2008 23:40 GMT
The vet just called me with the results of Nanki-Poo's biopsy.  The type of
cancer is one which affects other organs, as well as lymph glands, and it
looks as though there may have been some cancerous cells beyond what she
removed.  She has referred me to a veterinary oncologist.  I have an
appointment with him for Thursday to discuss options.

She has a very high opinion of this doctor.  She said he got her cat two
quality years.

Unfortunately, he's in Ventura, about 25 miles from me. so it means a long
ride each way with him cooped up in the carrier.  The choices of routes are
a back road that has a lot of bends or a freeway that is usually slower than
molasses.

Joy, my stomach just hit the floor when I read this.
No, no no,
NankiPoo will be just fine.  :)
Mosey and I sent him a get well card on the 21st, and when we wrote it, I
forgot to sign it 'also from the nice folks at rpca' but I didn't.
I didn't think of that at the time,
But you should get it soon.
I'm sending you an e-mail.

You're very welcome.
I'm so glad you got it.  Mosey helped me write it:)
I hope you read it to Nanki-Poo.
That was a picture of Mosey aka FuzzFace when he was a kitten, he's almost 6
years old now.
DH was taking his picture and he just stuck his face into the camera.  IIRC,
that's the one I sent you.  When I send someone a card, I usually write down
which card I send them, but I looked in my 'address book' and I just had
made a note that we sent the card and when , but not which card...silly ol
me:)  Look on the back of the card.  That was the name of our 'company' when
we were trying to sell pkgs of 12 different ones.
'Howdy Pressing' was the name  LOL

Thank you, Kyla.  It's funny.  I was starting to wonder if I was kidding
myself about his being the same as usual.  I thought maybe he wasn't quite
as active as he had been.  Then, yesterday evening, when I got up from my
computer and went into the hallway, there was a dead rat.  Since Lindy gave
up hunting years ago, Nanki-Poo must have killed it.  I guess he really is
the same as usual.

Joy,
We're sending lots of purrs and gentle headbutts your way for Nanki-
Poo and yourself as well.  I suspect you've done a lot of research by
now and pretty much know where you want to go to for support (besides
rpca), but I can recommend the Yahoo Group "Feline-Cancer". I have
been a member of the group since October 2006 and more recently a
member of Feline VAS Support.  Members of Feline VAS Support will
offer great support and knowledge if Nanki-Poo has a vaccine related
sarcoma.  Sometimes you can get ideas to offer to your vet that they
might not have considered but that a group of people have found
effective.  I wish you luck. I know what you are going through right
now and it is frightening and emotional. I'll keep you in our circle
of love.

{{Joy}} Feel free to email me if you have any questions.  My
experience is in feline osteosarcoma and Nanki-Poo's symptoms sound
like something else, but I'll help in any way I can.

Purrs for things to turn out better than you expect, or even hope for.

As this is so serious, I have decided to light a candle for Nanki-Poo,
in my very special 'sleeping cat' candle holder.

Purrs on the way for you, too, of course.

I'm sorry the news wasn't better. :(  I hope the oncologist can help
Nanki-Poo. It's not written in stone that the cancer has spread, she did
say there *may* have been some cells beyond what she was able to remove.
But since you don't know, it's a good idea to look for other treatment
options. That's a drag that its's so far away. Maybe you won't need to go
there all the time, once this vet recommends treatment.

Purrs,
Joyce

Joy, I am so sorry. Please try to hang in there and know we are all
thinking
of you and praying for Nanki Poo. Veterinary medicine has come so far
in the
last few years. It sounds like this is a very good doctor.
Don't know if you remember Orion, my daughter's cat, but he had chemo

Ah geez,  I'm so sorry to hear this, Joy,

I might know of a few oncologists we refer to if you are interested in
one that's closer.  One of my coworkers was a oncology tech for a few
years.

Purrs and hugs for you,

Kristi

Thank you, Kristi.  I will see this doctor first, since my vet recommended
him so highly.  If I am not satisfied with what he says, or if it looks as
though there will be many trips back and forth, I'll probably get in touch
with you for more information.

Purrs for the best possible outcome, and a not too stressful trip.

Crap.  I am so sorry.  I hope you can find some way to do whatever it is
you need to do for your baby.

Purring for you.

Hi Sweetie,
I was just reading the postings and saw your reply about Nanki-Poo and was
wondering how 'you're' doing.  I've been thinking about you a
LOT and am praying for you and the cats are purring for you.
IF you want to, send me an e-mail to
kylawaterman@yahoo.com  I'd love to send you a Cat card,
if you'll give me your address.
We love you and care about you sweetie :)
No worries, no pressure, just an offer from a crazy ol cat lady ;)

It turns out it's over 35 miles, but that's beside the point.  The outlook
is good, but will be stressful and expensive.  There is a very good chance
he will have several more quality years if I take him to a place just a few
miles closer, five times a week for four weeks, for radiation treatments.

Thank you, Ginger-lyn.  Right now I'm trying to decide between radiation
treatments five times a week for four weeks, which the doctor feels could
give him several more good years, or palliative treatments, which means just
three of these treatments, and which would probably give him another year.
I'd go for the long term, but the facility is 25-30 miles away, and I'm
thinking the trauma of 20 such trips might not be in his best interest.

Finally, a faint glimmer of hope that you will eventually come to your
senses
