When are yoe going to tell everyone how you killed the
orange cat?  You are an animal abuser.
Don't you think it's about time you fess up to these
cat lovers?
When are you going to tell them what a drunken whore
you are too?  Are you going to tell them how you
neglect your animals for booze and pills every day?
Do you really think anyone believes you are recovered?
Everyone knows what a loser drunken pill head you are.
Your reputation is there everywhere throughout the
internet for everyone to read.
Will you ever grow up and support yourself instead of
sucking off your daddy's fortune?
Will you tell the truth about your tax returns?
You didn't work because you were too busy taking
advantage of daddy's fortune while being drunk and stoned.
You are a drunken pot smoking pill popping whore.
Everyone knows the truth about you.

Sweetie,

I'm not Laurie, but like most of us in here, I opened this post.  Let me
give you a bit of a history lesson.  Back before I came in here and started
horking my hairball posts in 1998, all of the rec cat groups were jumbled
together in one big newsgroup called rec.pets.cats.  They started out as a
bunch of nice people, but the number of posts grew to the point that people
were complaining about them.  Also many people didn't like meowchat (gives
me headaches), or to read potentially gory posts about cat health, or to put
up with the maunderings of the rescue people (sorry checked it out and
didn't work for me)  Not only that but there were a lot of people who didn't
like a lot of other people and everything got really ugly.

So by mutual agreement (I understand that took months to hammer out)
rec.pets.cats decided to split up into its various factions.  There still is
rec.pets.cats, but now there is also rec.pets.cats.health+behavior (RPCHB),
rec.pets,cats.community (RPCC), rec.pets.cats.rescue (RPCR), and this group,
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes (RPCA).  I like this group.  It has a looser style
with more leeway for off topic posts and more interest in the various people
in here.

We've had polls, Pine Cone's adventures with any one who wants adding
stories to the voyage, we care posts, purrs and prayers, and have developed
our own persona.  I've noticed that most of the people in here are geeks,
many with computer experience (this is where I'd come first if I need
software and other computer information), a lot of us are in the education
business, many in scientific fields (often in both scientific and
education), many are involved in health care and other healing professions.
They're even kind enough to accept a lowly housewife who substitute teaches
for pin money as part of the group.  We've given second chances, even third
and fourth chances. to those of us who make mistakes.

I once posted a poorly written story about an event at our house that got me
hate mail from all over the world.  I was called all sorts of names and told
that I shouldn't be permitted to have cats own me.  I cried.  Oh man how I
cried.  I'd just found a place that I felt as though I could talk to
everyone about anything in any way I wanted and here there were people
sending me mail telling me to go away.  I'm crying now remembering the pain
I felt.  Then, among the hate email, I got an email from a missing member of
this group.  It told me about his experiences after making the same mistake
I did.  He'd written a humorous (I thought it was funny) story about his
kitties getting drunk and having a party.  People sent him the same kind of
"eat s**t and die" (amazing how many were the same people who sent me nasty
grams) emails that I got.  Like me, he almost left the group.  Then another
poster sent him the same kind of mail that he sent me and gave him the same
advice he gave me.

Not everyone is going to like everything you post.  The best thing is to do
your best, focus on the basis for the group (anecdotes) and put the repeat
offenders in your kill file.  There are people whose kill files are an honor
to be a part of.  Others who'd break my heart to put in their kill file.  We
developed a rather nice treatment for trolls.  We either post recipes or
send them litter box offerings depending upon the post and the need.  The
person you are obsessing about isn't worth the effort to keep bringing him
up.  All you are doing is letting him (I assume it's a guy, he isn't a man)
know that he got to you in a big way, and are giving him the gratification
he depends on.  May I suggest that you send him some litter box offerings
and then go on with life.  Personal posts are not actively encouraged in
here, though the occasional ping is accepted.  Generally, if you want to
talk to someone privately, you can ping them with an email me please, or
turn it into a general post (as I've done here) in order to educate others
who may not understand how we've developed over the years.

Vicky once called us a group where one can pull up a chair and have a cuppa
whatever we're drinking and chat.  But part of the game is that the chat is
in hoomin and general; anyone can take part in the conversation.  We've
laughed (who can forget the anticipation of waiting for another missive from
the immortal Dave Yehuddah or Bev in New Zealand) shared information, cried
(this was the first place that I let know about Rob's tumors, after calling
Rob's parents and his first sergeant), grieved (Dave Yehuddah, JEM, Dusty,
and Eve come to mind), rejoiced (Eve again), told stories about, shared the
quirks of our owners, and just gotten together as friends.  When you single
out a person, no matter how innocently, you are breaking into the dynamic of
the group and potentially destroying it.

Health in here is a touchy topic.  Rob isn't the only member with cancer,
I'm just more unwilling to be quiet in my suffering.  JEM died from her
cancer.  Dave Yehuddah died from a heart attack.  Several members are in
wheel chairs.  Some of us are blind.  Many have diabetes, heart problems,
mobility issues, and mental health problems.  Some of us are flat out crazy,
like me.  We can share a common anonymity in here.  We don't come in here to
compare notes on our problems.  We come here to get away from the pain for a
while.  Please humor us in this and respect our shortcomings.

Meow chat is cute, in the meow group.  I don't go in there because I can't
handle the spelling, grammar, and sentence structure.  It all gives me a
headache that goes beyond Tylenol.  I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only
one who feels that way.  I know that the meow cats are very sweet and
forgiving, but my cats were never taught meowchat and I don't want them to
learn now.

Don't ask me for my picture.  Let me have my delusion of being 5'8", skinny,
dignified, and gorgeous instead of being the short blobby person I really
am.  I'm sure there are others who agree with me on this.  Not all of us are
cute like Christine, dignified like Annie and Sherry, sexy like Mark, or
handsome like Victor.  Asking for our pictures makes us choose between
showing another person how truly gross we look or coming up with a picture
of someone else and passing it off as ourselves.  That one doesn't even work
in sitcoms.

Please forgive me my total b*tch*n*ss and understand that I don't want to
lose you as a valued member of the group.  If that were the case, I'd have
kill filed you like I have past members who I didn't consider worth the
effort of trying to reclaim.  This is not the easiest group to slide into
and become a part of, partly because it looks like it would be easy.  Like
our owners we're a snooty bunch.  I hope that you and other newbies who are
trying out how to break into our group here in the smoothest manner possible
will be able to use at least part of my ramblings here for your benefit.

I am in all those except community.  I got a little thicker skin than most
and can deal with the idiots that come to the rescue groups with their
problems that they know should be asking a vet over

I LOVE this group it has kept me sane for quite awhile and the people here
are dear friends to me

ALL CAT PEOPLE ARE PSYCHOS.  Who else would serve an animal that lays around

something.  God I am proud to be a cat slave

It is cute in its way but does drive me nuts also  that is the main reason I

Never that Pam  I and many others still love you
Granby - 23 Mar 2008 20:28 GMT
I do the meowchat because when things were unbearable for awhile in my life,
I found my cats could say things I couldn't make myself say.  Each cat has
its own way. I like this group because it lets me say what I think and, so
far, have not been threatened, much.

I practically got thrown off a grief group because I said to a lady who was
still grieving for her husband after 9 years, not normal but crying each day
and not being able to move on.  I told her she should celebrate the wonders
of the persons life and not just the day they left.  Well, all hell broke
loose and I was out of there.

I try to tell my grandkids all the cool stuff about their grandfather and
talk to the kids about all the good things we did.

Pam you, as usual said it right.  Guess it goes to that different strokes
for different folks.  I like both groups.

I took my new granddaughter out in the back yard for the first time today.
We sat in the patio swing and I told her that my grandfathers grew the most
amazing tomatoes.   A friend was digging up my tomato garden and I told her
that someday she will help me plant my tomatoes and when she is very grown
up someday she can teach her grandkids to grow tomatoes and tell them her
grandmother taught her.

She just turned four months old.  So it is a bit like talking to the cats.
They might not understand all the words but they do seem to get the idea
anyway.

Jo,
I miss my 8 grandkids SO much, it makes me cry.  My youngest daughter will
be 36 next month and is expecting her 6th child, a boy,.  Her oldest is now
17 years old and I got to watch him be born and was around them for about 10
years till they moved from Seattle to Denver and my other daughter, age 41
has 2 teen-age daughters, and I haven't seen them since 1995, when they were
tiny.  They live in Michigan, and I can't travel 'anywhere' because of my
disability.  I want so much to give my daughters and grandkids a huge hug,
but it makes me so sad that I can't. You're so blessed to have your little
grand daughter and it was so sweet the way you were teaching her about
tomatoes:)
Bless your heart...enjoy her to the max...children are gifts from God and
need to be treasured and loved, and I'll bet when she gets bigger, you'll
teach her all about kitties:)

We officially started yesterday.  While we were sitting on the swing
outside, she met Kayla.  Got to curl her toes into doggie fur.  I got to
carefully remove fur from her toes before her mommy saw it.

Then Molly came into the yard and walked around and preened for her.  Emily
didn't get to touch her, but seemed quite pleased to look at her.

I just hope she doesn't have a severe cat allergy.  Her daddy does.  I'm
looking forward to her first overnight visit.

Aww!! I love it when little kids first see animals. They have an innate
delight in them. (Well, OK, some kids might get anxious around a big dog,
at least until they learn the dog is friendly.)

That's what I need.

It's been a really good day here.  One daughter had to work, but everyone
else present and accounted for.  Large amounts of food consumed.  Everyone's
gone home and the debris has been cleared.

But instead of being relaxed, I'm kind of keyed up from all the activity.

I will have me a drink.  Just hope I can find something left fit to mix one
with.

Pics needed!

After last Thursday there's a picture lurking somewhere of me in a
corset...with an hourglass waist....I'll spare you all that "That
looks nice- can I try it on?" is definitely something that was a good
idea at the time. My friend Mel then squeezed me into it- it was a few
sizes too small and she has to have had arms of steel! This was a
situation where I was told I really didn't need oxygen and breathing
was optional (actually impossible. if she had tightened it another
inch- not that that would have been possible I think I could have
rubbed my nose with my left tit) I got a round of applause from
friends for even mananging to sit down and sip a drink then  Mel
decided to tickle me- not fun as I could barely breathe and then I
couldn't even get out of the thing!

And Rachael who is my size tells me she is going to wear the same
corset for a gig! If she tries to move in that innocent bystanders
will die!

Those things are something every female should try ONCE.  After my
grandmother died, we found one of the old lace up ones in her attic.  We all
had a turn at trying it on.  At the time didn't need one, maybe should have
kept it.  NOT, I like breathing and stretching too much for that.  I still
have a long hoop skirt from years ago, prom thing.  The granddaughters like
to play with it.  Had to make them each a skirt to fit over it.  Fun stuff.

I wore one to a Civil War reenactment.  Full regalia, actually, corset,
corset cover, hoop skirt and slip (I had to skip the pantalets; it was 98F
outside, I needed *some* air circulation).  Full overskirt, blouse,
cummerbund, jacket, feathered hat & a battenburg lace parasol.  It wasn't as
bad as I expected, but then I'd had the costume made for my actual
measurements.  And I had quite a small waist already!  I can't imagine
trying to actually CINCH myself with one :)

I did a reenactment once.  Would like to do that again.  No one else in the
family wanted to so never did.  Since my husband was in a wheel chair,
wanted him to do the wounded soldier thing and me in the nurses garb.  He
wouldn't, no sense of humor I guess.  Was fun though.

OK, but aren't there other, more recent movies with this same character?
Something like "Bill and Silent Bob Go Fishing"? OK, I know that's not
the actual title, but there *is* some movie with a similar title.

Off to imdb.com to find out the real name of that movie...

I dunno where you're going, Joyce, to find that out...but I meant it
when
I posted your intelligence is superior....however, the movies you are
thinking of are, 'Dogma' and 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'. I
seriously
doubt they are the kind of movies you would like....but I do! There
are
people who could stay on this ng 50 years and never be able to
understand
Silent Bob or these movies, BWAhahaha. You are not one of them and
that is why I told you about them.
Another movie I saw last night I really enjoyed was, 'Mars Attacks'.
Again....not for everyone's taste....they'd lose their prune juice at
the
very least.

Oh, you've got to check this out, then: http://www.imdb.com . If you
like the movies, go there now! This is the Internet Movie Database and
it has all the information about pretty much every movie ever made (that
was ever viewed publicly, that is).

OK, I'm flattered, and appreciate the boost, but let's not get into
superiority here... there are plenty of smart folks here!

Ah ha - you see, I did get the basic *structure* of the title correct.
"<Somebody> and Silent Bob <Do Something>". LOL. :)

> I seriously
> doubt they are the kind of movies you would like....but I do!

I like my share of dumb comedy, assuming that's what these are. I loved
all those Naked Gun movies, and Airplane!, etc. The kind of movie that
fires a joke every second. So 9 jokes in a row can be stupid and unfunny,
but the 10th one is funny - a laugh every 10 seconds isn't bad. :)

Anyone in this group who knows who Silent Bob is has new
respect and prestige AFA hopitus....you are no longer a
retired who moved down to FL, LOL.

I am not that old  was retired  had to get back working again

Silent bob  one of the best producers there is.  jay and silent bob strike

Jason Mewes is one sick individual

I am going to add up more points the actress in chasing Amy Joey Lauren
Adams  you know where she was discovered?   It was in a married with
children episode  playing a 13 year old sex addict cousin of the Bundies

Clerks and N.D. and SB all seem like they would be typical "stupid teen"
comedies but they are really more.  As for R VS B, I don't think I ever saw
it (maybe one episode) I guess they are good if you have them all?  Was it
even shown in the US?

Red vs. Blue is taken from and internet series by the same name.  It is one
of those videos that has to be seen to be believed.  It reminds me of
Wizards and Heavy Metal meet Mash and stupidity.  Totally ironically
moronic, but I love it.

Well, I might as well stick my foot in there too.....this is a good
post, Pammy,
and I agree with about everything you've said. I"m gonna ramble here,
but first
off, I can't read meowchat! I just can't. I guess I just see my cats
as highly
intelligent creatures, and if they COULD talk, they'd speak with
proper grammar.
Maybe kittenchat, I could see that.
On the other issue, it's all fun to see what folks look like after
you've "met" them

I will ditto Sherry about the dignified part.  I don't think I'm
dignified, but it's nice of Pam to say so, and I'm flattered to be
mentioned in the same sentence with Sherry.  Actually, I'm mostly a
klutz lacking social skills.  And, I believe I've seen a photo of
Sherry and Meryl Streep must have some good looking grandmother.

I enjoy meeting with regulars of this group and, although I don't
particularly like having my photo taken, I enjoy seeing the "we met"
photos.

A portion of Sherry warms the heart as well as the tummy.
as for Meowchat, some I can take and some I can leave.  It all depends on
my mood.

I, too, have been having a rough four days.  I awakened on Thursday with
terrific pain in my lower back and legs -- Sciatic nerve pain I think.  It
hurts terribly to walk, but I have to take care of myself and TuTu.
Tylenol and Arthrotec barely touch the pain.  If I sit still and don't
move, I can get relief.

OWCH!! that has to really hurt.  Both my knees feel like they're broken

And I hate the heavy doody crap i have to take for the intense pain.

Pam, I'm sitting here in tears, and may I offer you a HUG for taking the
time and the patience to write me that long lovely letter.  No, I don't
think you're being b*t*cy at all, and no you didn't stick your foot in your
mouth again, You are very informative and I read your letter to me in a
'kind' voice.  :)  I really appreciate the history of the different cat
groups and why we're here, and not 'there'  and *gulps*  I really appreciate
you not wanting to lose me and calling me a valued member...now I'm crying
again, because that just touched my heart Pam.  I too, in the short time
I've been here, have felt like it's a place where we can sit down and have
our beverage of choice, and talk.
I feel it's a warm safe place to be.
About the health issues, I agree.  I hate talking about MY own thingys but I
don't mind sending purrs, prayers or whatever to anyone who posts and is
suffering.
Heck, I'd ask them to send me their address and I'll send them a Cat get

sympathy Cat cards out to a few people here.   I do have several people's
pictures from rpca, I put in a thread that IF someone wants to send me their
picture, send it to, and give them my e-mail address.  I understand about
um,
'privacy', and don't bug people about sending me their picture and if I
have, I apologize.  About the trolls of late, I don't usually respond that
way, maybe it was the full moon or something, but it really got my ire up
when a couple of people here, who I really care about, were being totally
scathed, and it might be hormonal, IDK, but I got hissed off and vented, but
I've said all I have to say to them.  You're right...they're a waste of time
and need to be put in the litterbox:)  I love the recipe idea...
Please don't get me wrong, Pam, I am FAR from perfect myself.
I really love it here and the people here have been so kind and caring to me
and each other, with purrs and prayers and also some of the funniest stories
and pictures that make me run through the house, searching for Depends
Pam, thank you again for caring about me, enough to take the time and the
love and patience  to write to me and explain the things I need to know to
get along with the folks here.  I read your letter 3 times....I'm not vain
to think everybody is going to like what I post, and I imagine I'm in a few
folks KF's, but that's okay, I deserved it.
I've only been here a couple of months, but I'm learning
I just love the fuzzy tummy threads and the upside downy
head ones and all the cute pictures of different kitties.
This is a fun place to be, and it is also a place, IMHO, a
place for asking for purrs and folks lighting candles...
that's wonderful.
Thanks for....well, taking time for me:)

:)  I really appreciate the history of the different cat
groups and why we're here, and not 'there'  and *gulps*  I really appreciate
you not wanting to 'lose me' and calling me a 'valued member'
...now I'm crying
again, because that just touched my heart Pam.  I too, in the short time
I've been here, have felt like it's a place where we can sit down and have
our beverage of choice, and talk.
I feel it's a warm safe place to be.
About the health issues, I agree.  I hate talking about MY own thingys but I
don't mind sending purrs, prayers or whatever to anyone who posts and is
suffering.
Heck, I'd ask them to send me their address and I'll send them a Cat get
well card.  When a beloved Cat goes to RB, I too will and have sent some
sympathy Cat cards out to a few people here.   I do have several people's
pictures from rpca, I put in a thread that IF someone wants to send me their

Hi Pam,

As a newbie, I truly appreciate your post.  It is informative, thoughtful
and it gives me a better understanding of the history and dynamics of this
group.  I periodically post on a few newsgroups and can honestly say this is
the nicest, most congenial and supportive group I've seen.  As such a close
group it must seem a little like an intrusion when someone you all don't
know starts posting; from the outside, it's a little like looking through a
window and seeing good friends enjoying a drink together around the
fireplace.

Thanks for your post!

This group is great!  I can't recall when I first started reading and
posting here.  It was a very long time ago, I know that.  Someone (I'm so
sorry, I forget who!) saw me being hassled on one of the other cat groups
and sent me an email telling me I might like RPCA a little better ;)  So
true, and thank you!

This group is indeed like a place where we can sit around had have a cuppa.
We talk about our cats but we also share our lives.  That's something which
often doesn't go over well on other Usenet groups and in fact may very well
rear up and slap you in the face when you least expect it.  Not so much here
:)

People here are caring.  They've laughed with me, and I'm sure at times
they've laughed *at* me.  They were just as excited (well, almost!) as I was
when I met up with my Long Lost Love (LLL) after not having seen him for 23
years.  They've been here to offer support (and sometimes a well-deserved
shaking) through a myriad of things in my life.

As with any group of people, dynamics come into play.  We are all
individuals.  We have our quirks, our moods, our problems.  But then, I have
a "real life" friend of about 15 years who probably doesn't know some of the
things about me people here know ;)  In fact, I don't think I've ever asked
if she's a folder or a scruncher when it comes to toilet paper LOL

Yup, Jill, I so totally agree . I don't have an IRL friend any more because
the 2 I DID have, stole 'things' from me, so I ended my friendships with
them.
Oh well.  I've gotten over it.  One of them just bought a lizard and wanted
to bring it over and I said 'nooooo, I don't thimk so'
and I haven't heard from her in over a week.  Whatever!
Wait, I DO have one IRL friend, who lives in Seattle,  but can't go see him
because climbing his steep stairs would wreak my knees, but he'll come over
here every once in awhile to see us.

I add an agreement with that! It doesn't give me headaches but does
affect my stomach.

Glad to hear someone else feels the same.

Well, when Mosey comes down the hall' muttering',
in sentenances, yet,
if I'm in the bedroom, I'll respond with a few
Gnow? prrrrrrt?  wacka wacka  mmmm?
he'll thimk about it and usually stops.
and goes back into the livingroom.
LOL, as I'm typing this, I looked over at the cat tree in front of the
livingro0m window, and Pookie, our beautiful shiny sleek black and white 18
lb panther with white feet, is laying on one of the flat thingys and is
going into all sorts of 'poses' and I don't have my camera out :/
but he is being waaaaaaaay too funny.
Anyhoooo
just wanted to contribute a couple of anecdotes<G>

Well first of all I never complained about meowchat once people marked
those posts as such but you hit on my only complaint which is my cats speak
better than that.

Never, Pam.  I was thinking the same thing but could never have been so
polite and diplomatic.

Yes, yes it was good information, and I made a rather long reply to Pam.
Hope she saw it.
I never got the orig post, and I'm glad Joy left in in her reply when she
top posted her reply to Pam S
Thanks Joy, if it hadn't been for you,
I'd never seen the orig post that Pam wrote.
