Radiator warning (not OT)

In our living room we have a standard radiator-  By standard I mean a
metal panel with tubes in it through which water runs in then down a
number of pipes and out the other side with a valve at the entry point
to turn off/on access to the radiator for hot water.

Sorry if I am not describing this well and maybe other countries have
different designs but in the UK I think if I say "radiator" most
people will know what design I mean.

Most of these are a single panel but for bigger rooms they are two
panels one behind the other with a small gap between them and these
are the one's I want to warn about.

We have one of these in our living room with the double panels. And
Sarsi in particular often sleeps off to one side of the radiator by
the valve end.

Just now she got up and the next thing she was going mad! As she got
up, she stretched as cats will and where she stretched one of her back
legs it had gone between the two radiator panels, which was fine
until  her leg was in just above her knee (bigger cats it would
probably be lower) because that part of her leg is wider than the gap
between the panels so when she tried to pull her leg back it was very
firmly stuck.

So she's trying to get her jammed leg free and panicking. Dave
screamed at me, she was trying to pull forward with her leg firmly
trapped and in danger of breaking her leg, dislocating her knee or hip
etc...

I hope the RSPCA will forgive me for what I did next....I bent down,
grabbed her by the scruff and put my hand over her eyes....naughty I
know but at least she went still so we could get her leg out without
her struggling.

And when I say stuck her leg was very firmly stuck, I started to
consider getting some water and washing up liquid to help ease it out
but somehow between us we have managed to free her leg. She was
limping for a couple of strides after  but she seems okay now and has
gone back to sleep on top of the PC but we'll keep an eye on her and
have the vet's number next to the phone...still I think she's
okay...not too sure about us through..we're both shaken and looking at
putting something in the way so she can't do a repeat performance

She might be blistered which won't show up until tomorrow - hope not.  No
central heating here.  A woodburner in the lounge and a gas fire in the
kitchen is all we have.  Purrs that she is OK.

Thankfully- the radiator wasn't on at the time. She has now trotted
off without limping to have some food and once again settled down on
the PC she doesn't seem at all upset

Her slaves are another matter......

That sounds really frightening, thank ceiling cat that no harm was done.

I think you did a pretty good job getting her out of there.  Cats are so
good at getting themselves caught in the strangest places.  We've been lucky
so far, but I'm always afraid that one of the owners will decide that it is
time to test the hoomin reaction system.  Our HRS is not as fast as it used
to be, so they have to be more careful about how they set it up.

Are you nuts?  It sounds to me like you reacted very well.  You got a
panicked cat to be still and you think you need to be forgiven?  This sure
sounds like it could have ended much worse.

Nice "looking out"!

I was joking- I am fairly sure that grabbing an adult cat by the
scruff and covering her eyes is not approved cat handling but it's
what I did and it worked so who cares if its approved or not?

Her ladyship is, of course, now fine and wondering wny we've been
watching her every move apart of course from the usual kneeling and
worshipping as she goes past. Not limping since it happened, currently
can hear the noise of a hungry cat at the kibble in her bowl, giving
it some serious crunching I think she's fine
