Nanki-Poo:  Not good news

The vet finally called.  She got the cytology report, and it doesn't look
good.  She said it isn't completely definitive, but it looks like cancer.
Even worse, the woman who did the analysis says it doesn't look like a
primary site.  Since his thyroid was enlarged, the vet had me bring him in
so she could aspirate it.

She decided to do some sort of scan before the surgery, so I had to leave
him there.  They'll call me to pick him up, probably around 5:30.

She'll probably schedule surgery for early next week, unless her findings
indicate a different approach.

They didn't call me to pick up Nanki-Poo until almost 6:00, and then I had
to wait a long time.  I expected to arrive, have them bring out his carrier,
and leave, so I was getting nervous.  Finally I asked the receptionist if
the reason I had to wait was because the doctor wanted to talk to me.  When
she said yes, I was sure it was really bad, so I was really stressed out by
the time I was taken into a back room to see the doctor.

There was nobody in the room when they left me there, and nowhere to sit
except a stool.  I sat down on that.  When the doctor came in, I stood up,
but she told me I could sit there because she wanted to show me Nanki's
x-rays.  Then she said, "You don't have to sit down, because it isn't bad
news.  I just had to give bad news to somebody else."  That relieved a lot
of the stress.

She showed me several x-rays of his chest and abdomen, and none of them
showed anything wrong.  She expects the results of the biopsy on Monday.
Then she'll call me and we'll discuss surgery.

Nanki-Poo hates using a litter box, and after all thsoe hours of being
cooped up, I expected him to head outdoors as soon as I let him out of the
carrier at home.  However, it was past their dinnertime, so I took him in to
open it.  He headed for the door, but when I opened the refrigerator, he
watied for the food.  He ate most of it before he went out.  Lindy went out
too, and they stayed out for about an hour.

Nanki-Poo came in first, which was unusual.  He actually got up on my lap
almost immediately, which relieved me greatly.  I expected another day or
two of being ignored, after this latest indignity.  He spent quite a bit of
time on my lap.

This update sounds a bit more hopeful, Joy. We are still purring for
poor Nanki-Poo and his worried Meowmie.

I'm glad there's nothing wrong internally! Purrs for the biopsy to come
out clean.

Isn't that ironic? After I tormented Licky by chasing him around the
house, lifting up the bed and taking away his precious hiding place
(causing him to yowl with terror), and finally catching him, putting
him in a carrier, and taking him you-know-where - I expected not to see
a hair of him for hours and hours. But instead, he was more lovey than
ever. Go figure!

I'm so sorry, Joy. But I hope the vet will still be able to help him
and that the news is not as bad as your fears indicate right now.
I've got Francesca and Nina on purr patrol for a successful result of
his surgery.

Keep hoping, and try not to let your worries take over!
