Thought this could be Weebs & Persia!
Also, with Comcast taking over our area's Insight cable/internet/
phone, I currently do not have newsgroups through my server (mu
insight addy is currently working, but it will soon change... :( ),
so am using (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) Google groups!

It's awful, isn't it? At least there's not *too much* spam on this ng.
Before I got this notebook and was using the neighbor's puter, reading &
posting via GG on some ng's was very unpleasant! (to say the least)

I use the free news server nntp.aioe.org as a back-up in case my ISPs news
service goes down. They don't carry binaries and you're limited to 50 post
per day, but when it doesn't cost anything I'm not complaing.

Try Xnews or Thunderbird as your newsreader (both free) and then
nntp.aioe.org to read and post (free too). Much better than google groups.

You can tell xnews to kill posts that are crossposted to over N groups
which helps a lot with spam if the server does not do that for you.
