Nanki-Poo missed his appointment today because I couldn't find him.  He
likes to explore in the morning.  He usually spends afternoons in the house
though, either on my bed or in the living room.  I rescheduled for 2:00
tomorrow.  Wish me luck.  ;-)

He knows something's up! How convenient that he disappeared just around
the time you needed to capture him for You Know What.

Good luck for tomorrow! (Both in catching him, and in the diagnosis.)

Thanks.

He may have known something was up, but he's usually outside in the
mornings.  Of course, when I saw him earlier, he was lying on the patio, but
when I wanted to put him in the carrier, he was who-knows-where.

Persia *always* knows when something's up.  I make it a point never to put
my suitcase away.  And I make it a point to start packing days before a
trip.  (Some things I never actually unpack between trips!)  Still, she
always knows when the morning to be taken to be boarded rolls around even
though I haven't gone near the suitcase for days!

Purrs for a good outcome for Nanki-Poo.

I do the same thing (except for the boarding), with the same result.  Of
course there is one thing that tips them off, if they don't already know
something is up.  I am on good terms with my next-door neighbors, but we
seldom go to each other's houses.  They are the ones who feed my cats when
I'm away, so about a week before I leave, I print out the instructions about
feeding, dates I'll be gone, emergency contact numbers, etc., and take this
information over there.  If Lindy sees me go over there (and she nearly
always does), she'll follow me part way and then act suspicious from then
on.

Thanks, Jill.  I'll post when I know something.

Sneaky boy.  I routinely have to reschedule Chester's appointments as he
has particularly sensitive radar around appointments.

Purrs being sent that he stays home where you can find him and that nothing
is serious!

I do wish you lots of luck but how difficult is it to keep him in overnight
and not let him out to explore in the morning when you know you have a vet
appointment because he is ill?  It isn't.

Shut the firking door when is inside and needs the vet, Joy.
Ready for flames.

No flame, but actually it is very difficult.  I have a cat door, which locks
by sliding tabs into slots at the sides.  Both cats hate to use a litter box
and prefer to go outside.  Lindy is very adept at unlocking the cat door
when I have locked it, and has done it on more than one occasion.  Even
worse, sometimes when she does that, the movement of the door as a cat goes
out jars the tabs enough that they stick partway out, making it impossible
for the door to be opened inward, although it still opens outward.

Incidentally, I have had a cat door for almost 40 years.  This is the first
time in all those years that I have not been able to get a cat to the vet
for an appointment.

We've been through two catflaps since moving here.  The first was pretty
solid and could be closed by dropping a flap down into slots each side,
like a portcullis.  Mingus first figured out how to slide the flap up
and out of the way, then when I tried fixing it at the top with parcel
tape, I found him sitting patiently at the door peeling the tape off.

The one we've got now is one of the plastic ones with a four-position
wheel that allows in, out, in/out, or fixed.  Unfortunately it just
wasn't strong enough and Marblecake simply smashed her way through it
one night.  It's fixed with duct tape and plastic reinforcing strips
so it keeps the rain out, but the latches don't hold any more.

Ours have done that too.  First sign of a problem is a house with no
cats in it any more.

Anybody know a source of cast iron catflaps with rotary combination
locks?

LOL! And maybe with a password or two? Just don't use your pet's names. :)
