Well dammit, I was just at the post office on Saturday and bought a new book of stamps for Mom. The man never asked if I'd need any 1cent stamps!

Don't feel bad - you helped with some advance notice which is a good thing. And now folks have time to still buy the "forever" stamps at .41 each. Lorna - who loves saving postage by online banking, and who feel REALLY old because she remembers .03 stamps :(
PS - My Chessie cat would lick stamps all day if possible. She dearly loves to lick and play with anything sticky - a piece of scotch tape is better than a new catnip mouse.

Hey, they're money, and IF we go out to eat, it makes a nice tip, or given to a homeless person, or spend them in a store, it really screws up the 'till', because they have to be put aside, like other odd bills like a fifty or a hundred and makes it a beatch to 'count'. I have some green rubber stamp ink that is the same color as a green money, so I mark my $2 bills very subtly, and I'll be darned if I didn't get one back one time LOL This was years ago.

Are you crazy? Why would I want to do that, it's abusive IMO. I would never do anything like that to my cats. I am surprised that you think it's okay. It is NOT FUNNY at all. Add this to hugging your cats within an inch of their lives and you are heading for my killfile, Kyla.

I consider it a privilege that my both my cats chose me when they were in dire circumstances. I prefer that they have a quiet and gentle life here with everything they need and no worries for them.
No way would I dream of putting sticky tape on their feet so they stuck to the floor to have a laugh at their expense and I cannot understand the mindset of anyone who would do it. I never heard of it before until I heard it on this group. Is it an American thing that is considered to be OK?

How about just ping the group and see if people would like to receive a kitty or dog card? I, for one, will appreciate the one I'm getting (I can't speak for my mother). BUT, there's no need to ping to see if someone got email, then ping to say a card was mailed, etc. All this Pinging is making my head rattle! And I mean that in the nicest sort of way.

My cats are not playthings to me, KFC chose to move away from her family as the care was not good enough - too many dogs which bit her so she lived out fo 7years and Boyfriend came from goodness knows where, he was completely lost. So why would I think of putting sticky tape on their feet? Haven't they gone through enough? I wouldn't do it anyway. I like to provide them with a happy life now. Safe and secure in the knowledge that they can relax in my house and they do not have to worry about anything. I could insert a matchstick into Boyfriend's ear. He would let me because he trusts me now. How funny it would be to see it irritate his ear and him shaking it.. NOT!!

> No. We're barbaric enough to permit de-clawing, but our culture isn't > quite so bad as to condone sticky tape on the feet in order to humiliate > the cat. UK & USA culture seems so different around keeping cats - the declawing and the inside/outside debate for starters. I felt I needed to ask if this would be a common practise. I have never been to the USA and doubt that I will ever have the opportunity to do so, so I know nothing about how cats are kept there apart from what I read on here, and what my couple of e-mail friends in Michigan tell me, both have cats and sticky tape has never been mentioned. No offence intended. As I sense this has irritated you.

As I sense this has irritated you. Not you irritating me, Tweed, so much as the fact that there are those who think that tape on the feet is funny. The indoor/outdoor debate only irritates me when there are those who think that everyone should follow their way of thinking. Circumstances differ. Here, if I were to let my owners out without putting them on leashes, I'd be fined or arrested. But that doesn't mean that they can't have the out. Hence the enclosure. Letting them out here isn't safe anyway. The traffic, stray d*gs, stray hoomins, and wild animals are very real dangers here. That doesn't mean that my way is the right way. If I were living where I didn't have to worry about them, my owners would have the enclosure as an option, but not as a way of life. It just gripes my cookies that we are so barbaric that everyone seems to think there is no limit to our insanity.

I keep styrofoam away from my cats because it's dangerous if they injest it. I hate getting a pkg that has those styrofoam peanuts in them because they get all over the place and are hazardous to the environment as well as the cats

Let's be fair- can anyone here say they haven't made mistakes? As she says it was a long time ago- it's not something I would ever consider doing but ...When we got Speedy Joe, the guy who brought him round asked if we had any milk?
Nope says I we drink our coffee black
"Not for you!" he replied "For the kitten!"
And we felt guilty about not having got some milk in for the kitten! Of course now we'd say "Kittens don't need cows milk it's bad for them"
Then again when we got the Fabulous Furballs we did put milk down. The lady who had their mum had been giving them milk not knowing any better so for the first day or so we put both down and they soon demonstrated a preference for water but on their first day away from mum and siblings we wanted them to feel as at home as possible

I've learned my lesson on that one. I love our kitties and take the best care of them I/we can. I hate having people mad at me MaryL ...but I guess a good sound scolding was warrented in that regard as well as hugging my cats too hard, which I no longer do either. I adore my little fuzzy 'kids' and will do anything to keep them safe and healthy and happy.

But you do need to remember when you are posting something on the internet, there is the potential for a lot of people to read it.
Who knows when someone will read about putting tape on a cats paws, or hugging it until it squeeks and think that sounds like a really cool idea.
And how could it hurt? After all they read it on a cat group where everyone really cares about cats, right?
Then if no one says anything, for fear of hurting your feelings, it has the effect of looking like not only is this something you recommend, but something that we all tacitly approve of.
So I'm sad that you have been upset. But hope you understand that no one wants to advocate something that could upset or harm a cat unnecessarily. Even if it means some hurt people feelings. At least we can explain to people why we have hurt their feelings and hope they understand. We don't have that luxury with our fur kids.

NOT!! hear that??? I don't care about MY feelings, I have to be in control of them, and a good scolding is what I needed. I re read the Cat hug thread I posted a while back and some people do hug their cats, and if the did hug them too hard, they could take me to Judge Judy for me suggesting they harm their cats. DON'T HUG YOUR CATS TOO HARD OR PUT TAPE ON THEUR FEET!!
> So I'm sad that you have been upset. No worries,it's my own blasted fault! I've been upset for alot of things, lately, which I won't go into, because I want to keep it light and fun here,

Absolutely...I realize that now. Thank you so much for 'putting me in my place' in a 'kind' voice. I feel like I should be standing in a corner with a dunce cap on my head Thank you for giving me the advice Jo. I 'really' appreciate it. :)

Kyla The ones I have show the Liberty Bell and carry that text. And I need to buy more on general principles - I'm nearly out, but I now plan to stock up.

"The stamp, which will carry the word "Forever" instead of a price, will remain valid for sending a letter, no matter how much rates go up in the future."
Remind me to go buy more... many more LOL

Back when I was paying my bills by mail, I used to have a roll of stamps by my computer and another by my living room chair, where I would usually write the checks. Currently I have half a roll of 37 cent stamps, 3/4 of a roll of 39 cent stamps, and a bunch of 2 and 4 cent stamps. Now I'll have to buy more make-up stamps, and I'll be stuck by every rate hike for years to come.

(Of course, I'm still working on the last roll of 39-cent stamps and the hundred 2-centers I bought to last me through the end of the roll. (Looks like now I'll have to count the remaining 2-cent stamps and buy enough 1-centers to add to them, until that initial roll is used up.) Anyone besides me remember when first class postage was 3 cents, air mail cost extra but only 6 cents total?

So buy the books of 20 like I plan to do. I don't use postage much (I do all my "banking" online) but Mom does.

I haven't heard anything about it, and they usually publicize it for at least a couple of weeks ahead of time. Besides, it just went up a few months ago. And it never goes up by just one cent any more.

Well, the stamps are going to be raised by ONE cent on MAY 12 (not March) 2008, we ordered a packet of the 41 cents and an equal # of the one cent ones. We ordered 'Flowery' 41 cent'rs. And the 'one cent' ones have Tiffany lamps on them. But they charge a dollar for postage and handling. Oh well. The few 41 cent ones I have now are of a stained glass window. Kyla

They guarantee first class postage, regardless of future rate hikes, at the price you paid for them (which, as of right now, is 41 cents). I, for one, am going to go back and buy a BUNCH of them at the current price. Thanks, Ted, for reminding me!

I bought eight folders of the Liberty Bell "forever" stamps and will probably buy a few more early next month. I started doing this right after they became available, so I have half a dozen folders from that time.

I have enough of the 41 cent'rs (almost 2 full 'books' of them. And a book of the one cent'ers

They will be good "forever" (regardless of postage increases), so it's best to buy some now instead of waiting until we get close to the postage increase. Post Offices are likely to run out of them.
