Nanny - 08 Mar 2008 15:20 GMT how long I've been on RPCA, most of the time as a lurker, but still..... I think it must have been since 1995, using a CDI, if any of you remembers what that is, as it wasn't a very well known thing in the rest of the world ;-) I got here when the cat-speak people were still posting, then later it was proposed that they'd have their own newsgroup, and when I hadn't been here for a while and came back they'd disappeared. So, do the "older" members know if that was really 1995 ?

That sounds about right - it was a little after that that rec.pets.cats split into rec.pets.cats.anecdotes, rec.pets.cats.health+behav, rec.pets.cats.rescue, and rec.pets.cats.community (the "cat-speak" group).

I think it must have been since 1995, using a CDI, if any [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > >> Nanny It was discussed quite some time before it happened. I kind of miss those two thousand post threads about cat in/out spay/intact declaw/whole. Well maybe just a little.
My favorite thread was one where I was advocating a point of view about a post and after someone did a bad quoting job I looked like I was on the other side of the argument and started getting yelled at by my own "side". 1000 posts a day, had to love it.

Charleen Welton - 08 Mar 2008 18:23 GMT Go to Google then to More, then to Groups. The screen that comes up for me is rec.pets.cats.anecdotes. That one may or may not come up for you. If it doesn't put it in the search box. Enter your name or subject you might have been writing about at the time into that search box. You will have to spend some time searching for the specific information that you are looking for. It is a wonderful trip down memory lane!
I did this three days ago. My first post was to Meow Chat on June 2, 1996. Have fun.

I only read and didn't post anything for years. The earliest post from me that I found was in 2002.

Kyla =^..^= - 09 Mar 2008 06:28 GMT Hi Nanny, I'm Kyla and I've only been posting here for less than 2 months. Flippy reccommended rpca and it is indeed a wonderful place, and she was right, the people here are wonderful. I love it here and my cat Mosey posts sometimes on rpcc. I'm almost 63, live with my DH of over 31 years and we're owned and operated by 4 Cats, PookieCat, Mosey, Pipps and Sqweex. Nice to meet you:) Kyla "Susan M"

It's been ten years since I first barged into the group, who graciously made me welcome. Yowie was posting then, as were Dave Yehuddah, Dave Stevenson, Dave Gercke, TJ was dressing up Dusty in feather boas and posting picture sites for him. Hazelaz was in here, as were the two Helens. I rarely see posts from Helen S, any more but Helen M is in here enough that I feel as though we're hanging out pals. Flippy had recently started her cat pages and it was one of the first cat sites I was directed to. I remember how totally proud I was when she emailed me for the first time and asked if she could put one of my stories on her web site. There have been so many changes, and yet it still feels like home, where you can kick the cat out of your chair and sit down with a cuppa and chat with your friends. I like every one in here pretty much, though I'm not as nice as I should be to them.

Yowie was posting then, as were Dave [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > Pam S. feeling guilty Worse, I forgot JEM. Her posts were incredible I'll never forget the one about her hallucinations while on her fever meds (IIRC). She was seeing all sorts of strange things flying around. She was also the one who told us about going outside on a cold winters day and blowing bubbles for the cats. Has anyone tried that yet? I still mourn for her and wish that we could have done something to make her last days better. Which reminds ne, How is Bluebird? I haven't heard anything since Christmas. We have so many absent friends. I propose a toast to all our friends here on this elemental plane an those who have gone forth on their next phase of their journey. \ Pam S. lifting a glass of Diet Squirt to them all.
Granby - 09 Mar 2008 09:56 GMT What about blowing bubbles in the cold. I do that here in the house and they all three go crazy.

But I'd highly recommend you start here: <http://www.flippyscatpage.com/janicescats.html> and just read all of them.
JEM was utterly mad in the best possible sort of way. She is still missed (and we still send cards to her Mom during the Holidays). There should be more people like JEM in the world.

I think I joined the list just after Dave Yehudah died as well (seem to remember one of the first posts I read was the sad news) but this list kindly directed me to both their pages on Flippy- this is my favourite of JEM's I screamed with laughter when I first read it

I know I don't post very often due to still being catless, but I still keep up with you all. I've still got the postcards we sent to each other many years ago showing where we live. > Yoiwe I joined in September of 1999. The first post I read was from someone whose email name was "PontiacV8", and she (I think it was a she) had posted pictures of her tabby cats, but I missed or lost the link. In my first post here, I asked if could she please post the link again, becuase I was also a tabby cat lover. And the rest was history... :)
Joyce - also not sure she's as likable as she wants to be.

My name's changed (was Debbie Maizels) but I've been here (rpc and then here post-split) continuously since Sept 1996.... just don't have time to post as much as I once did, though everything is read and invisible purrs sent. I don't even have time for spare time at the moment. Never be a freelancer :-(
Heck, Yowie and I have even exchanged long-distance breakfast cereals!! (still can't get Froot Loops in the UK!)

The 'split' of rec.pets.cats into rec.pets.cats.anecdotes, rec.pets.cats.community, rec.pets.cats.health+behav, rec.pets.cats.announce, rec.pets.cats.misc and rec.pets.cats.rescue happened in February, 1997 - the first post to RPCA was on February 28, 1997. My first post to RPCA was in July 1997, IIRC, although I think I was lurking long before that.
I can't find your profile on anything before this year, but you may have been posting under a different e-mail addy or different name.
Nanny does sound familiar though. More memorably: who are or were your owners back then?

Nanny - 09 Mar 2008 17:19 GMT I didn't post in the early years as I used that CDI which was mostly a game machine that you could expand to get online, and it was easier to read than it was to write ;-) Some years later I bought a pc (might have been in '97) and after a while remembered rpc. When I looked for it it had already split up and I joined rpca where I have lurked mostly but did follow some of you people ;-) I used to be owned by Punk and Yascha, both RB now. These days I'm owned by Mickey, Misty, Babette, Tiger and Yoschi (the cat gang), and by Rose, Joy, She-Ra, Taiga and Jimmy (the ferret mafia).
