Good spring foods please. I've been craving salad and these idiots are a good excuse to get recipes for salads, early veggie and fruit dishes, and stuff for a spring picnic. Hurry now before these children have to go back to school.

I can't stand the taste. It tastes like rotting garbage to me. I don't understand why people consider this horrible vegetable a delicacy!
(But because so many do, I will occasionally try it, say once every 5 years or so, just to see if my taste has changed. It has certainly changed about many other foods. But nope, still tastes like rotting garbage!)

(I agree about artichokes being more trouble than they're worth. Feel the same way about lobster, too.)

I adore artichokes. When my parents would visit California, they would drive a hundred miles out of their way if they had to, just to get the artichoke fritters in Castroville. At the Giant Artichoke.
They are pretty good with mayonnaise instead of butter. Even light mayonnaise.

I even like way overcooked mushy carrots (although overcooked broccoli I can take or leave). But I hate brussel sprouts. I've been told that the ones I hate were grossly overcooked and had turned into green snot balls, and that if I had them done correctly I'd like them, but oddly enough, I haven't been bothered to find out if that is true. Not a big fan of sauerkraut either. My ex's mother made her own, and apprantly it was legendary stuff in her circle of friends, and I quite insulted her by saying I didn't like sauerkraut. O fcourse I hadn't tried *her* sauerkraut. I tasted it, and whislt it tasted like every other sauerkraut I'd ever had (aweful) I realised what sort of predicament I was in, and lied when I said "i don't usually like sauerkraut, but this one is really nice". Of course, from that day on she gave me a double helpin gof her sauerkraut on my plate whenever she made it. I just ate gobbled it up first and then got on with my meal - she probably still thinks its because I thought ti was so yummy I couldn't help myself, and I know I ate it all first so I could wash the taste out of my mouth with whatever else was on my plate. Otherwise, though, i really miss my ex's mother's cooking. She was Polish and I would kill to have her kifli (plum jam triangles) and her sponge-type cake that had really sour plum halves in the top (which made the seweetness of the cake that much nicer). I don't know the name of that one, unfortuantley, and will probably never find out now.

It seems unlikely that it would be, if French people really had difficulty digesting it. (BTW, a lot of people have discovered "Google" to frequently be somewhat less than accurate in its facts.)

I haven't noticed an exceedingly unpleasant smell, just taste.
There is a specific gene linked to a flavor in cilantro (ie, coriander) leaves. Most people don't have the gene, so they don't taste that chemical, but some do, and to them, cilantro tastes like soap. Maybe that's what the OP (Lee?) was thinking of?

(Afaik, the whole asparagus gene thing was two seperate genes - one for producing the distinctive asparagus smell in urine, and another entirely different gene for *detecting* the aspragus smell in urine)

Personally, I heartily dislike the flavour of cilantro (although I have no opinions about coriander - I didn't realize they came from the same plant). I wouldn't describe cilantro as tasting like soap, though - it just has a very distinctive flavour which I find unpleasant.

Personally, I can take or leave asparagus. If there's a nice sauce, I'll take them. :) Cilantro (fresh coriander, as it's called on this side of the pond) doesn't taste like soap to me, but I just don't like the taste of it. I think it might be an acquired taste, and the fresh herb wasn't available here until some 10 or 15 years ago, so I never got used to it. I like coriander seed, though.

for each serving 16 oz milk 1 TBSP cocoa powder 1 TBSP splenda
on the stove; put the dry stuff in the pan pour just enough milk to wet them and stir on low until totally dissolved, then slowly add the rest of the milk stirring the whole time , put the heat on low/medium so it doesn't scorch stir heating until its at the temp you want.
In the microwave; put the dry ingredients into a large mug, cover with milk, heat for about 30 seconds then stir until its dissolved, add half the milk that is left, stir, heat, and then add the rest of the milk, stir, then heat to desired drinking temperature.
tastes better to me and cheaper than those packages.

They need more sweets and carbs to be satisfied. I know that I need to add more sugars to something to get it to taste as good as it smells. Splenda is my friend.
