Bobcat - 03 Mar 2008 11:47 GMT The RPCA gang and the members of Flippy's CatGroup have decided to celebrate Flippy Day on her birthday, so offically it's May 29th each year! Thousands of cat lovers around the world benefit from the tireless efforts of this lady in Melbourne, Australia, thanks to Flippy's CatPage, Flippy's CatGroup, and the daily cat e-mail she sends out to its members.
How do we celebrate Flippy Day? I'm certain you have some good ideas. Here are a few of mine:
1. Send Flippy Day/birthday greetings to Flippy. I'm in North America so I'll do it a day earlier on the 28th because we're a day behind Australia where she lives. Every year on that day I'll do it with a PayPal donation to help Flippy pay the costs of the CatPage website, this CatGroup and her mailing list. I do that anyway. Four times a year I send money to her via PayPal, so I'll make one of the dates May 28th. When you use PayPal, an e-mail goes to the recipient in which you can send a message, so I'll make my message read "A Flippy Day gift." Flippy wrote me about this today. She says kindly, "I hope that people don't feel obligated to donate - there are quite a few people who are on pension, and there is no way these people can afford to donate. They should be able to enjoy the catpage too.") The CatPage website has suggestions for sending donations, including PayPal: http://members.westnet.com.au/flippy/donate.html
2. Have a Flippy Day Cat Party. The guests of honour are your kitties. Give them treats, hugs, ear scritches - but please, DON'T dress them in costumes!
3. Investigate some of the many cat protection groups around the world. A couple of examples are the Whiskers Animal Benefit League, and Cats Protection in the UK. Make sure the one you choose is legitimate, and help it in some way. http://www.ewhiskers.com/ http://www.cats.org.uk/
4. The best way of all to celebrate Flippy Day is to adopt a stray kitty, or one from an animal shelter. If you do you'll be greatly rewarded, and thanked by Flippy the Birthday Girl.
That's a few of my suggestions for celebrating May 29th. What are yours? Best; Bobcat

I discovered we picked a good year to begin Flippy Day, because it's the website's 10th anniversary! The home page reads in part, "Hi, I'm Flippy, the owner & webmaster of this webpage which went online in 1998." Good timing, gang!

This is so sweet! What a great idea.

> but please, DON'T dress them in costumes! LOL! I would never do such a thing. I like being alive, thank you!

Fix Our Ferals Feral Cat Foundation (the group I fostered Everett from) Home at Last Milo Foundation
Those are all small, local, grass-roots animal rescue groups. The first two, as you could probably tell from the names, are focused on cats, the other two rescue cats and dogs. (Sorry, I don't have web info on these groups at the moment, too lazy to go look. Anyway, I might be the only person here in my immediate area.)

If they can put up Christmas decorations in September, we can certainly have Flippy Day items by *March*. My goodness, there are only 87 shopping days left!! (86 by Australia dates. :))
Joyce
PS - I'm not making fun of Flippy Day. I think it's a great idea and a very nice thing to do. Just having a bit of fun.

I enjoyed your amusing comments so much I posted them at Flippy's CatGroup. It got this response:

"Right. Let's see...
Joy to the world Our Cat has come. Let every human be his slave His food and catnip bring...
I'm stuck. How about...
We wish you a Merry Cat Day; We wish you a Merry Cat Day; We wish you a Merry Cat Day and Flippy Day too. Good tidings we bring to you and your cats; Good tidings for Cat Day and Flippy Day too!

I came up with a gift idea for her, some small Cat wind chimes. They sound really lovely and wind chimes just make you feel better... I have some on my balconey, and I love them. Kyla
