At nobody's request and merely due to my own vicarious vanity, I put some
pictures into a temporary album for anyone who's interested.  None of them are
particularly great shots, but maybe it will help to put a face to the names:

Eros looks so sweet, and Oscar is so regal!  When I saw the picture of
you reading in bed with Oscar on top, I thought of how lucky you are.
My Betty would never leave me alone if I tried to read in bed like
that!  If I'm in bed, she insists that I be flat on my back, unless
I'm holding her in my arms.

My cats perch on top of me like that, one at a time, of course! They also
sleep on the flatter bits of the bed, when I've been disturbing them by
moving or turning over.

Well, there are two sides to that coin.  Oscar loves to be near us, but she
can't seem to decide whether she likes being petted or not.  And holding is
something that she sometimes tolerates because she knows we like it.  I'm
jealous you have a cat who likes to be held!

I told Oscar someone said she was "regal," and she just sniffed.  She didn't
need to be told she's the queen!

Hey, we all do this here - we love to show off our "kids" to each other.
So by offering an unsolicited glimpse at your kitty pictures, you've
just proven that you fit right in here. :)

They are both beautiful, by the way. I'm afraid to enthuse too much
about Eros, since you are grieving him, but he really is a beautiful
boy. I have a weakness for shiny black cats. Oscar is quite pretty,
too, she has a really sweet face and luxurious fur.

They're nice shots, by the way. We're all over the map in terms of
photo quality. Some of us are professional photographers, or very avid
amateurs, and the quality of the photos is stupendous. Most of the
photograhy from this newsgroup is average-quality and decent - and
we're much more concerned about the content, anyway. I have a really
bad camera (but can't afford a new one right now), and I apparently
have no gift for that medium, so the pictures I take are of questionable
quality. But people are very nice about it and still ooh and ahh over
my beasties. :)

=P

I really need to take more pictures of Oscar.  I have none from this year, at
all.

Feel free to enthuse.  He really is gorgeous.  And the more people who say so,
the more confidence I gain that he will find a family quickly.

Have you been to ratemykitten.com ?  I'm sure the site has made the rounds
here.  From the average score of the pictures, it really is true that all cats
are adorable, at least to cat people.

Where are you?  He is currently at the BVHS in Boulder, Colorado, and would
love to have a happy kitty home.

http://www.boulderhumane.org/

They don't have his picture up; he was supposed to have his evaluation this
morning, so I'd imagine it should be up soon.

On a sidebar, I note there are cats "Mary Kate" and "Ashley", who look to be
littermates.  This just disturbs me.  Isn't it animal cruelty to associate
those poor cats with those names?

LOL! There's a congressman in Brazil you might want to talk to. :)

Joyce

PS - in case you weren't reading the newsgroup when this was posted,
a congressman in Brazil recently tried to introduce legislation making
it illegal to give pets human names, because he thought it would give
children low-self esteem issues to share a name with an animal. Now,
the other way around could actually *be* a problem. If I were a cat,
I'd be extremely incensed to be named after the Olsen twins!!

I hadn't heard of that.  That guy must not have much of importance to worry
about if that's his major concern.

Hey, my family has a long-standing memory disorder.  We rattle through names
till we find the right one.  My dad will address me as my mother, several
aunts, my brother, and my deceased dog before getting my name right.  It's
pretty funny, and I've never felt slighted for it =P

No kidding. Or else he *does* have more important things to be doing,
but isn't doing them!

My father used to do that, too. Now I do it myself: "Get away from there,
Lick-, er, Rox-, er, Smudge - whoever you are!!"

I have two older sisters, and my mother frequently calls me
Sol-An-Marina. :o) With eight grandcats, she is even worse.

My grandfather [raised four kids of his own and four stepkids, then
helped raise me] does roll call: "PeggyMariePatSeanette" :-).

DFIL has been known to call me Ruth [his daughter] or Mary [his wife]
before getting my correct name, and DMIL routinely swaps names between
her sons [she'll be looking right at Bob and call him Glenn, for
example, when DBIL isn't even there], occasionally throwing in Max
[DFIL] or Whit [DMIL's psycho brother]. At least they don't usually
throw in pet names :-).

When in multi-pet situations, I've switched names. I think it
especially annoys Felix when I accidentally call him by the bird's
name. :-)

I hope you're not apologizing for posting cat pictures! Eros is a
gorgeous boy. I can see why you are sad to let him go, but I'm sure that
such a sweet cat will have no trouble finding a new home. Oscar is very
pretty, too.

There are loads of pics of my cats at the links in my sig. Just so you
know. ;o) We don't need any excuses here to post cat pics (at least
that's what I keep telling myself).

I find that a little obsequiousness goes a long way when you're new to a
newsgroup =P
