Shasta was an Aussie dog; but also an honorary cat.

We had her in our lives for 16 1/2 years. She was so sweet, and very
protective of my 41yo son, who was her alpha of the pack. In her youth
she was best buddies with Amber (RB), a Maine Coon mix. They loved to
play Chase and Rodeo.

Shasta always accompanied my son every time he was outdoors doing
anything. She sometimes chased birds and bunnies to clear a safe path
for him. She was also very good at chasing cows and calves that broke
through the fence. She had no training, just instinct. She would round
them up and drive them back across the fence, then come for pettins.

She brought us a lot of joy and unconditional love. We miss her
terribly. But we are thankful that she just died of old age, her body
just wore out and she went to sleep. Although she was blind and deaf
for months, it didn't get her down. The last few weeks, though, she
had something like Alzheimer's. We cheerfully cleaned up after her
accidents. And she got so many pettins the last few days as she quit
eating and got weaker. She went to sleep in my son's arms. He did not
cry until her grave was finished with a headstone and sparkly mica
rocks.

Now she is at Rainbow Bridge playing Rodeo once again with her buddy
Amber.

Her pic is so beautiful, Catherine.  God bless her as she heads to the RB.

Thank you for sharing Shasta with us.

A gentle end to a long and wonderful life.  Couldn't ask for anything more
other than that they stay with us forever.

But our hearts break anyway.  Purrs and wiggly tail wags from our crew.

Thanks so much for the hugs and purrs.

And hugs and purrs for you, too. I have just read about your hand and
looked at the pics. It is really ugly looking. I am glad you have your
previous experiences to tell that it will heal nicely.

I feel with you and your family. We lost our family dog in his 13th
year.
It was very hard for all of us.

Sincere condolences.
On the good side he had a gentle passing away.
I don`t hear that often.

It is too bad dogs don't usually live as long as cats. But all pets
don't live long enough anyway. And it is very sad that so very few
have a peaceful passing. Hugs for your loss.

We should all be so lucky to leave this world with the ones we love best by
our side, holding us unto the end. She must have loved you mightily. Rest in
peace, and run free Up There.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It is a cruel fact that we are destined to
outlive our furry companions who mean so much to us and add so much to
our lives.

I'm so glad Shasta had a long, happy, active life with you.

Beloved dogs earn their place in the home and heart, too. I still
remember Pippin, the Shetland Sheepdog we owned when I was growing up.
May Shasta be having a wonderful time bounding about beyond the
Rainbow Bridge.

Purrs are extended to an honorary cat by the Fabulous Furballs. What a
lovely name- what does it mean?

Thanks for the Fabulous purrs.
She was named for Mt. Shasta in California, a dormant, snow covered
volcano. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt._Shasta
