Teri's Clowder in order of acquisition:
Mouse is the only one of the current cats who arrived as a kitten. My
sister's housemate came home in the wee hours of the morning, somewhat the
worse for wear :) and heard a kitten crying. He was afraid that one of the
cats had gotten out and was hurt. Mush searching located a young kitten on
top of the tire of my sister's car. It was too scared and took off so the
chase was on. After catching, isolating and the obligatory TED visit they
learned that Mouse was FeLV+ so he had found his one true home. Mouse loves
to be petted, stroked, skritched but he cannot stay still for it. He is
constantly squirming around on the floor or walking back and forth while you
pet him. Unfortunately he's also very shy. If he hasn't decided he likes
you, you'll never see him.
Sam's story can be found here:

Colette (RB) more often known as Coco Kitty is the cat she recently lost to
respiratory failure. I don't know how she spent her first year but her
second year was spent in a cage waiting for her one true home. Her final
year was spent in a loving home with lots of glittery balls and things to
chase (she loved anything shiny) and a sweet young boycat named Mouse to
snuggle with.
Silver is the biggest cat in the house at around 10-12 lbs and I don't know
his background. He's gray with white trim and not an attention seeker (and
hardly seen in the picture) but he'll come out while other people are there,
unlike Mouse. An unassuming chap just enjoying the good life now he's found
it.
The newest member of the family (who hasn't posed for pictures yet) is a
lovely lilac point siamese who has been affectionately named Fang-Fang.
Fang-Fang comes by her name quite honestly. She bites. Pet her too much,
she bites. Don't pet her when she wants, she bites. Have the nerve to be
sound asleep when she wants attention? She bites. She must weigh all of 8
lbs yet she bit my husband's size 13 shoe, which is bigger than her, because
apparently it offended her. She's been settled in for several months now
and everyone is learning the subtle signs of her displeasure :)
The D*g pictures are a couple years old...
Tyra is my sister's eldest child, a siberian husky, and doing rather well
for an old lady. I'm sure I'll get this wrong (I always do) but I'll say
she's 14 (could be 13). She's pretty grey around the muzzle and she sleeps
a lot more than she used to but TED says she's healthy. Tyra is the only
purchased furchild. My sister kept her when she and the boyfriend who
bought her broke up. I say she definitely kept the right one :)
Tolkien is ...we're not quite sure what. I think he's got some smooth
collie with his long narrow face and some husky because of his curly tail.
The one thing we're sure of is that Tolkie is not too bright. And he thinks
he's a lap dog. All (roughly) 100 lbs of him. Which of course my husband
encourages every time we visit....
He's about 8 years old and noisy children get him very agitated. We think
he was abused as a puppy and he adopted my sister when he was about one year
old.
I have now realized that I need to get a scanner so I can add pictures of
the rest of Teri's RB kitties: Pixel & Mugs, the first cats I ever fell in
love with; Rabscuttle, the first of the FeLV+ kitties & Baby Kitten.

Many thanks for posting these and their stories (tho I couldn't get the link
to Sam to work). My kudos to your sister.

A "clowder" is merely a group of cats. It's the official term for a
group of cats, the way "pride" is the word for a group of lions, "herd"
for a group of cattle, and so on. Some of them are quite colorful, eg,
a "murder" of crows just means a group of crows.
I used to have a link to a site that listed hundreds of these terms,
most of them rather obscure, but the link doesn't seem to be any good
anymore. Maybe someone else has a current one?

We call ours a herd... cuz they sound like one running around the house
when they get the crazies.

I'd don't have one, but I'd like to know it. I particularly like a "charm"
of goldfinches and an "exultation" of larks.

If we can't find a site, let's suggest some. I'll start off with a
"stubbornness" of mules..

Ah - this is the one I used to have, looks like she just got her own
domain (used to be http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~lizzie/html/collect.htm).

I noticed that the website author refered to these terms as "venereal
terms". This makes me wonder what the word "venereal" actually means.
I only know it as referring to sexually transmitted diseases, but obvously
it has another meaning (or a larger one that connects the two, somehow).
I *have* heard these collective nouns referred to as "terms of venery",
so "venereal" isn't totally surprising.
Joyce - will post again with more info about venereal

OK, I got off my butt and looked it up. Interesting.
"Venereal" does in fact refer only to sexuality, sexual pleasure. A
venereal disease is indeed a sexually transmitted disease. According
to my dictionary, there is no other meaning for that word.
However, "venery" is listed twice. The first listing refers to sexual
pleasure and is therefore related to "venereal". The second meaning refers
to *hunting*. Ah ha! That's where "terms of venery" comes from. It refers
to groups of animals to hunt...

Doh! I did read this, but being new to the group and bad with names, I didn't
make the association. My apologies.

Sounds exactly like my Nocturne. Nox doesn't draw blood, but her bite
is plenty enough to wake me from sleep if I've crowded her.
