Grouchy Cats?

As I look around the web, a repeated trope seems to be about grouchy,
anti-social cats.  There's the famous "mycathatesyou" web site, which is
truly funny.  And a lot of the LOLCats seem to have the theme that the cat
is being grouchy and misanthropic. ;)  People repeatedly seem to mention
this or that "cat from hell."

But I have very rarely ever known a *really* grouchy cat.  Most cats I've
known have had their moments of "Back off, Buster, if you know what's good
for you."  But for most of them, those were only moments.  Most of them had
quite sunny disposishes. ;)

Is anycat around here a *really grouchy* kitty?  I mean except Ms. Nox, of
course, whose sweetness and light is world-famous. ;)

My Bandit (RM June 2007) was a truly, truly grouchy cat.  She would growl at
anyone who came near her (except for me) and would yowl, scratch and bite
anyone (other than me) who dared try to touch her.  My granddaughters knew
better than to go anywhere near her and vets and vet techs tried their best
to examine her from across the room.

KittyFC has always been grouchy.  She would give Nox a run for her money.
I don't know why she has always been short tempered but she is.  It doesn't
bother me too much given her history.
We manage to get along quite well, if I am careful about her feelings.
Otherwise I am so dead.

Shmogg was a grouch.

As I was reading your replies, I did remember a cat I once knew, whom most
people would probably call grouchy--  My grandma's cat, Pandora.  She just
would never allow anyone to touch her.  I eventually stopped thinking of her
as grouchy, because as you got to know her, she was very good company!  She
would always sit on the sofa with whomever was there watching TV.  She liked
to sit under the Christmas tree.  She was very smart, and showed it in a lot
of ways.  She was deeply attached to my grandfather, and pined dangerously
after he passed away.  We came to realize that we didn't need to touch her
in order to appreciate her or love her, and that she loved us as much as she
could, given her aversion to being touched.  I'll always remember her as a
special cat, although I hardly ever touched her, and certainly never did so
without getting a good claw-studded clout.

Well none of my cats are pretty mean, although Mischief will have her
moments.

But I can't tell you how many cats I've met where the owners will warn
us ahead of time how much of a handful they can be.

most of the time they are right.  However there are the ones which
will seem so innocent...

And then you bring them to the back and they suddenly turn into
CATZILLA!

And they you tell the owner that you can't get the blood/urine or even
give a vaccine they say "Oh but they are NEVER like this at home."

Sure, as I'm trying to hide the blood dripping off my hand....

My aunt has a long hair gray cat named Blue.  He seldom comes out from under
her bed.  If he does come out, and heaven help you allows you to pet him, he
will bite and bite hard.  He glares at everyone when he does walk around the
house.

He is a rescue and we don't know his history.  He put my uncle in the
hospital once when they first got him and didn't know to not touch him.  At
that point they decided to have his PTS but were talked out of it by their
vet who refused to PTS a healthy cat.

He isn't an only cat, so isn't much trouble as long as you stay out of his
way.

My grandson's aunt had a black cat named Elvira.  She was as pretty and as
evil as the name sounds.  She co-existed with everyone as long as they
didn't try to touch her.  She did love her owner.

And a neighbor had a cat that looked like Persia.  I once saw that cat cross
the street while Charlie was out working in the yard just to bite him.  She
would walk up to you like she wanted scratching and then chomp down.  And he
is the cat whisperer.  Even he admitted that cat was evil and he could get
along with Blue and Elvira.

Tanada is my Grouchy Old Womancat.  Do not pet her without getting
permission first.  I have scars from doing this.

my sister's cat, linus, is a grouchy cat whenever someone visits, but my
sister swears he's a little sweetheart when it's just them and ronja,
her other cat. but linus seems to hate everyone except my sister, and
he's also pretty aggressive towards other cats when we're on the island.
kasper is the only one who dares to stand up to him. here is linus

A friend of mine had a lilac point Siamese called Clyde, who adored his
meowmie and was a little sweetie. Alas, that was only when they were alone,
visitors were regarded as people who might take her attention away from him
and he was more than just grouchy about it! He used to sit on the curtain
rail and you could feel the eyes burning in the back of your head and if you
turned round- he would be sitting there glaring at you with red eyes. He was
known to chase people out of the flat. If you went near him he would growl
and if you didn't take the hint it would all end in tears...yours of course

The irony was he was a wedding present from her husband and if there was one
person Clyde hated over all others it was him! Their idea of foreplay became
making sure Clyde was locked out of the bedroom because if not he would
launch himself from the wardrobe and land with all claws out on hubby's
backside, which would not do much for the poor guy's ardour

I don't think Clyde was entirely to blame for their marriage breaking up but
I bet he was pleased when it did
