Susan M. Report
I got Susan and Fred's telephone number due to the quick thinking of Detective Tak. He brought up a picture of Otis, enlarged it and got the phone number off the tag!! Thank you, Tak!
I spoke with Fred who told me that Susan is very, very sore and that the she will not be released until that situation is under control. Oterwise it appears that she is doing well.
Very soon after he posted his message the baby hit a key scrambling "something." Fred was unable to get back to RPCA. I read the two posted message that were to him; Lesley's and Marina's. He chuckled and noted them to tell Susan. He is very impressed by the group as a whole. And I say; Who Isn't?
Her home address is: Oops, I didn't get her last name; duh! 6825 Livingstone Drive SW Calgery, Alberta Canada T3E 6J2

Granby - 24 Feb 2008 11:01 GMT Pam, don't sweat it, I am sure Susan doesn't. Also, any of us that are on the Card lists have addresses far and wide. As someone said, if we really want to know someone's name, we can figure it our from looking at past posts. I found a long lost cousin by googleing different sites so, if I can do it, anyone can.
>>>> Last name {SNIPPED}. Kyla, if you read this, this is one of those >>>> times a [quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > > Pam S> Lesley - 24 Feb 2008 16:09 GMT I found a long lost cousin by googleing different sites so, if I can
> do it, anyone can." A while back I got an email from someone in Cornwall who said she was Susan Wheal before she got married and did I remember her from Manor Road? Talk about nostalgia? I knew her when I was 7-9, her grandad ran the best sweetshop in town (those classic old shops with the big jars of sweets! just being reminded of her name made me remember going in and getting half a pound of Merry Maid caramel's for my mum's birthday present and they used to sell things like "Spanish Main" sweet tobacco (toasted coconut strips) ) and she found me just by idly browsing a few web sites.
It isn't even online- the World is smaller than you think. Got a call a couple of years ago from Jim asking me if I had seen Hugh or Big Mark lately. Last night I told him being somewhat puzzled as he hadn't met them (he did at my 50th)
Basically Jim worked for (he's now part owner) a small company in Hastings so small at the time, it employed him, two workmen and a part time secretary called Sue. One day he's sitting in the office and mentioned to Sue that he had to have a day off to go to Romford to put flowers in the crematorium plaque for mum and dad (i'm ever pedantic about that- bless him he came up with the message dad's date of birth and death then underneath it has mum';s date of birth and says "reunited 16.05.04 and then in bold letters "Reunited Together" and I had to say they could hardly be reunited apart!)
"You an only child?" Sue said "Nope got a brother called Ron and a sister called Lesley"
"Lesley Madigan? Does she live in East London?"
"Yes why?"
"Does she role play?"
When he replied in the affirmative she said to call and ask if I'd seen Big Mark and Hugh lately.
I don't know Sue but I do know her husband from the gaming group so what are the odds when they moved to Hastings she would take a job with a small company one of whose few employees would be my brother?
Weird
> I'm sorry, I didn't say that to make you feel worse. It is just that doing > nothing can make it worse. I know that I mean today it doesn't hurt at all taken no painkillers and I tucked into a steak pasty with no problem even chewing on that side but I know something will need to be done. Still nothing can be done until Wednesday at the earliest because I have to finish the antibiotics and I'm more worried about my niece who is due to have her baby Thursday (whether the baby wants to be born or not!) and the dentist did say if it settled down well when I started the antibiotics , which it did I can even safely wait for another week or so
She considered the root canal thing but the cost
> and no guarantee did not make it a good choice either. With me- time may be the problem. My boss is not so sympathetic as to ignore my taking time off to go the dentist even if I arrange early or late appointments they have to come out of annual leave or I have to take unpaid leave. I had one days leave left and I have already had to take half of that to go last Thursday and if I go back between now and the 1st of April that's the other half day lost unless I lose the pay and with what may be a large dental bill I don't want to do that. One option may have to be to change my dentist- there's one who works at the hospital a couple of days a week so I could just have my lunch hour at some odd time and pop over to his clinic there can't be too many sessions in a dental chair that last a whole hour! I'll be sad to say goodbye to Beata and her merry gang but the reason I used them in the first place (apart from the fact they were accepting NHS patients) was they're a short walk from where I used to work so I could book in for 9.00 and be at my desk at 9.30 or pop in to see them after work or even go in my break so I was able to get everything done without losing annual leave. Now I'm over an hour away from them from home and half an hour from work
(I'm bracing myself! The phone in the living room just rang and Dave picked it up and has just said "Hi, mum"- another crisis)
(Yep another crisis! Dad's taken a turn for the worse and they need to get the doctor in. That'll be Tuesday as mum has booked a dial a ride tomorrow to go and get some shopping done)
Anyway I suppose I do have a few days to think about it (or not as I can't do anything just yet)
Unless we are talking several hundred pounds then cost is not really the problem, Okay it;s an unexpected expense and I daresay I am looking at a couple of hundred pounds but as there will be more than 1 appointment I can spread it with my credit card over a couple of months so it won't hurt my wallet too much (my jaw is another matter)
No one is more
> disliking of a Dentist than I. Try Dave. In the almost 30 years we've been together he's never been! His theory (and I have had heard the same from a couple of other people) is dentists cause toothache. They wouldn't make money if you went along and walked out with nothing needing done, he says, so they always find something and of course once the tooth is weakened by being drilled then you're on an endless merry go round of more work until they can't possibly do anything else at which point you're advised to have it out (and probably have to have it out) then they can start trying to sell you implants!
What this theory actually hides, of course, is that Dave is terrified of dentists, Our relationship has survived a lot of things but I don't think it would survive his having to go to the dentist...
He's been blessed with even teeth with clear gaps and as a result his only dental drama in all the time I have known was when one of his milk teeth fell out- no fuss at all, he said it felt loose and the next thing it dropped out with no pain or bleeding. He was 35 at the time but apparently people can keep milk teeth for a long time indeed I have 3 at the front myself where the adult tooth never developed so with nothing to push them out the milk teeth have stayed in place and are sound. (make sense of this if you can- my front teeth are overcrowded lots of hard to reach with a toothbrush bits and all are sound but my back teeth where there are less hard to reach spaces are the one's that give me trouble)
So he bounces around with completely pain free teeth and I suffer and he says it proves the best way to have healthy teeth is to never go near a dentist!
It's not fair! If I were a nastier person I;d be wishing just a small toothache on him! Then again it'd be like my suffering with hayfever, I don't get hayfever he does and I suffer!

Susan M - 25 Feb 2008 06:34 GMT When I got the call from Charleen, I was very pleased that the group was looking for an address for Susan so they could send cards. Susan was touched by the goodwill of the group.
I can see there is some controversy here over the publication of an address. Let me clear this up.
I assumed that the address was going to be circulated among the members, never thinking that anyone would actually post it, so I didn't specifically ask Charleen not to post it. That was my error.
I called to correct spelling in order to help those who wanted to write to Susan and didn't dwell on my disappointment: I assumed it was impossible to remove the address post and didn't want to chastise someone who obviously meant well.
If it is possible to remove this stuff, which I doubt, I wish someone would do so. If not, it still contains spelling mistakes that might fool a non-Canadian.
Susan is still in hospital for at least two days and misses her cats and family. She appreciates all your thoughts and purrs, which I have relayed by phone, as Canadian hospitals are not internet friendly. Thanks to all of you for thinking of us. This is a very compassionate group.

Cute but not 100% true and while it is true that Susan permitted her name and address to escape into the public domain herself it still would have been the right thing to do to hear Fred or Susan say it is ok to print it so explicitly. Your getting upset at the person who pointed this out as well as tanadashoes seemed odd (to me). Some people need more privacy than you may need and for _reasons_ which they may also need to be kept private. Privacy, even on the Internet, is still possible (if difficult) those who want it should be encouraged to maintain itnot the reverse.

We are also talking to every single person with an Internet connection or access to a computer with an Internet connection. Quite a number of years ago I stopped using my last name on any public Internet service. In a flash a number of people I "talked" with on alt.cats and some other places no longer knew me. I had a need to do that and in hindsight it was right for me. Can someone piece together enough to figure out my last name and all the rest, yes but that is because I did allow it out and still allow a very low level of identity out in dribs and drabs. There is no regular poster to this group that anyone should need to worry about but the entire world has access not just us. I just think you err on the side of caution: unless one of you told me to post your information I would not post it. Like everyone I make mistakes and I consider this was one since it seems like Susan did not say post it even if she would if given the chance. I am not beating anyone up but beating up the poster (a lurker?) who brought the point out seems like attacking the messinger.

Most posters here I like. Some I am indifferent and a few are not my cup of tea but almost all of them I would trust. Those that never post: who knows.

BTW: I can now:
most times, pet Frank some times pick Frank up some times tummy rub Frank (he LOVES all of these)
[He has SPOTS on his belly!]
rare times, pet Lyle rarer times, tummy rub Lyle both of which he loves but he still is leary.
Both of them will pop into the bedroom while I am on the computer and vist a minute and sometimes pass a few words.
They only hide for a few seconds when I get home. As soon as they see it is me they come back out and hang around a few minutes before going back to their window.
I woke up this AM at about 3 with a bit of a headache so I sat at the kitchen table and watched their daily am play date and they did not mind my doing so. I usually wake up right as they finish up for the morning. They are a blast to watch.
As soon as they are still enough for me to get pictures with my larger camera I will post some but so far I only get more of the same (mostly).

I am one of those few people who have almost no web presence. Even if you knew my full name and where I live, unless someone gave you my address, you would be unable to find me. This has become more and more important as employers check out the web to check out whether or not to give someone an interview. Facebook page they don't like - there goes the interview. Web page they can link you to that has something controversial on it - there goes the interview.
As I am fixing to be applying for jobs in public relations/marketing, I am so glad I haven't made my presence known far and wide on the internet.

Stormmee - 25 Feb 2008 20:22 GMT no Andy, I am tired of explaining things that you are obviously either trying to not understand, or incapable of understanding, when this thread was about a kindness gone astray, it should be about Susan getting better and Pam not feeling guilty, Now I am going to block you so I can continue to read if you don't leave me alone, Lee

No one disagreed with you yet every word I typed you had to tell me how much smarter you are than I am. Some people who are not you actually know what they are doing. Perhaps you do not understand what I am typing? Not a good thing considering my short sentences. NO ONE attacked you Lee; least of all me. Heck, I did not attack anyone. Tell you what, you get the last word if you want.

Calling her a nine year old isn't very nice. Refusing to understand what she was writing was also rude. I'd consider it an attack if you'd written it at me, and I LIKE you.

Victor, best stay away from a particular cooking ng then :) Newbies barge in all the time saying, "I thought this was a cooking forum!" LOL [Me, and 99% of the told timers, speaking to the newbie:] "First of all, this isn't a "forum" (except perhaps in the broadest sense of the word). Secondly, there's a thing called OT and thread drift. Lastly, who the hell are you and what have you contributed?" They are rarely seen or heard from again.

Granby - 25 Feb 2008 12:25 GMT Boy am I glad the 2 ng I joined aren't that way. I made a couple of mistakes when I cam here, not knowing about to, I didn't mind being taken to task for them. When I started the ng thing, except for what Lee had told me, I didn't have a clue and appreciated the help from people I have been given.

Simple mistakes or a lack of understanding ng's isn't the same as trying to tell people what to post/talk about, though. The newbies on the ng I'm referring to freak out and yell "I thought this was a cooking forum!" if there's any discussion of anything else. They seem to think we are there to provide them with recipes or teach them how to cook. Even when a post starts out on topic there is definitely thread drift that occurs, just like in a normal conversation with someone sitting next to you.
I remember one person, posting via Google, who was very upset none of us had filled out our "profiles". Dude, this is usenet. We don't HAVE "profiles". <G>

That to me is what usenet is about. I do attempt to make my thoughts as clear and civil as possible _especially_ if I am in disagreement with someone. There are times I do not have the word skill to achieve that goal and thus don't post at all. THAT to me is also what _good_ usenet is about. My guess is it is the second point that causes most problems.

Bridget - 24 Feb 2008 03:13 GMT I doubt seriously that it would have been posted without her permission. We have done this a number of time in the past for people but never without permission. The person who posted it knows the policy. Most of us here are known by the group by our first and last names anyway and anyone with half a mind could figure it out and where we live based on our postings and then get our address by searching it.
