Holy Mackerel, where to begin!  First things first. Four pooped in the
litter box today and I am ecstatic!  I need a real life apparently.  But it
is a begining. David and I found a small litter box and got it into the KK
sideways and scooped litter into it through a hole. Whatever it takes.
Hopefully he will continue this behavior.  Getting him to
continue to do this in the litter boxes on the porch and in the house will
be another challenge for another time.

We wound up at the vets early this morning quite unexpectedly.  His FIV
condition overcame his antibiotics and his wound was enlarged and seeping
blood, this change happened within 48 hours. He was the very best patient
that any kitty could possibly be, he was super excellent. Antibiotic power
was put onto the wound.  I was given Baytril that he needs to take in
addition to the Clavomox. His temperature was normal. He has gained 4.5
pounds in a month.

The vet, Dr. Hernandez, checked his mouth, this dear sweet cat has only one
canine and two teeth. His mouth is full of white stubs of broken teeth. Can
you imagine 3 years of living like he did?  Trying to find food was
difficult enough, but trying to find food that he could eat must have been
unbelievably difficult.

I care so much for Four because he is so loving, so cute, so funny, so
responsive, but, he was taken in not only because it was the right thing to
do but largely, big time, because he is spirited, tough of will, not a
quiter, determined, life-loving and a survior against the meanest of odds.
There are damn few people I know that I can say that about.

And there is still a credit at the vets.  Thank you all so very much.  Damn,
it's raining right in my face. You have made a good life for a wonderful cat
and my family gets the fringe benefits of the funny faces, and silly things
he does and the joy he brings.  C.

That's good news that he's doing so much better!  With that wound +
FIV and everything else, it's just amazing that he survived that long
by himself.  And the pooping in the box thing is good too - I think
that just getting them into the habit is a good start to litter
training.

You are taking such good care of Four, Charleen!

Charleen, if you don't have a fully paid reservation in heaven with
credit to spare there is no justice in the world.  Four is very lucky and
seems to know it.

Andy (getting a bit rainy here too.)

LOL. But I can imagine! If he couldn't be litter trained, how could you
bring him into the house? So that's wonderful news. And you know that we
here at RPCA will not laugh at you for saying this.

You know, it never occurred to me that his wound would have so much
trouble healing becuase of the FIV. But of course it would. I just never
put those two things together before now. If you hadn't taken him in, I
don't think it ever would have healed.

Wow!!

And also, I think, because you rescued him and you've taken care of him.
There is something about doing that, the day-in, day-out care of another
being, whether a human or cat, that creates the basis for love. In fact
I'm sure some people would say that all that care *is* love. But however
it works, it's a very solid way to build a bond.

Which is why we deserve lots more beautiful pictures. :)

Wonderful news and I'm happy to hear it.  :~)  Let's hope the infection
clears up, soon, though.  Purrs coming to Four!!!!!

That's wonderful news! I can't think of anywhere apart from this group where
a cat pooping is good news. :-)

You are so right.  I can't even tell friends about this, they would never,
ever understand!  I'm glad you all do!

Woo hoo!   We all need a real life apparently ;-)

Do you have any problems getting him into the carrier?  Do you have to
lift him?

I'm sorry to hear that the wound is being a bit stubborn but it sounds
like you'll be able to get a handle on it.  Holy cow on the 4.5 pound
weight gain.  How much does he weigh now?

Ouch.  Poor boy.  No wonder he likes wet food.

I'm so glad to hear that he's in a happy safe home and being taken care
of.  Thank you for all the updates - I read them all even if I miss
replying to one here and there.

Take care,

Some days more so than others Susan!

I did the "food dish in the crate" thing and he marched right in. But I
learned from the office visit that he is a big marshmellow and can be picked
up plopped down any where and will stay there. I'll do the picking him up
thing this week-end.

He's up to 12 pounds and 13 ounces and looks good.

I'll pick up a few jars of pureed meat (no onions) for him for an
occassional treat.
