I think that Buster sometimes get jealous because I tend to spend a
lot of time with Dot, because she's much more tolerant of being mauled
than he is.  Dot is a boneless cat who gets carried, kissed, and
massaged every which way, and who stays in bed even after I'd gotten
up.  She's very much like Betty that way, and our relationship is
similar.

Buster is even clingier in many ways than Dot, but he's his own cat.
He's not boneless, but feels toned and springy when I hold him.  He
tends to look for purchase with his back claws as you're picking him
up, so you have to be careful.  Once he's being held though, he can
meld into your shoulder and stick like a burr, sometimes becoming a
bit difficult to detach.  Other times, he'll jump right out of your
arms.

He likes to follow his hoomin around, and he's very good at both
asking questions and giving answers.  When he wants something, he'll
whine or make a questioning mew.  Once he's seen that I've guessed
what he wants, such as when I've reached for the food when he's
hungry, or went to get his toy when he wants to play, he gives a very
happy trill.

Another thing he does when he wants attention is standing up and
scrabbling at and hugging your legs.  He stands up, hopping a little
and pawing at one leg, then wraps his arms around it and gives it a
brief hug.  Then, he switches to the other leg and does the same
thing, all while looking up at you with huge pupils.  This seems to be
his way of asking to be picked up.  One thing though that's always
puzzled me about him though is that he doesn't milktread.  He's a
young cat, but he's more needy than knead-y.

These two are very different in the ways they express their luv.

I have a confession to make - I've once said, "My name is Inigo
Montoya, you killed my father..." while chopping vegetables.

Ah, my favorite movie in the whole world. My favorite scene in the movie
is when they are climbing the cliffs of insanity and Mandy Patinkin
tells his boss, "I do not think you know the meaning of that word."

I have wondered for years what the above quote (with "prepare to die"
at the end) was in reference to. I've heard it dozens of times, along
with great laughter, but of course I've had no idea what was so funny
about it.

But now all this has changed, thanks to Wikipedia! :) I have to confess,
though, that I don't quite understand what chopping vegetables has to
do with any of it, unless holding a knife is as close as you've ever
come to being a swordsman. :)

And what does it have to do with "WUV"? :)

If I haven't read a popular book or seen a popular film or play, etc,
I will sometimes get pieces of it confused with something else that has
either some similar plot elements, or a similar title, or something like
that. Example: Little Shop of Horrors and Sweeney Todd. Since I haven't
seen either, I am forever confusing the two.

And now, here's another: I have not seen Princess Bride. (Or else the
above quoted post would not have happened.) But for years, whenever anyone
mentioned that title, I would say, "Oh, you mean that movie with Sting?"
And people would give me a blank look and go, "Huh?"

Turns out, there is a movie called "The Bride", based on The Bride of
Frankenstein, that came out in 1985, just two years before The Princess
Bride. So, it's not that far-fetched that I would confuse them, right?
They're both 80s movies I never saw with similar titles. I know very
little about The Bride, but it does star Sting. Thanks to the IMDb!

Clearly, you must watch Princess Bride. At LEAST once.

INCONCEIVABLE.

Any knife or other blade action is an excuse to quote Mandy Patinkin
from that movie.  As is any form of disbelief a reason to loudly
exclaim "Inconceivable!"  The Princess Bride is the ultimate gamer's
movie.  It has something for everyone.  I'm a big Patinkin fan as well
as having been a major fan of Andre the Giant.  I met him once (my
then room mate had a passion for wrestlers) and was totally awed by
how kind, gentle, intelligent, and caring he was.

Andre the Giant was a regular at the Renaissance Fair in East Texas when
I was younger so I got to see him annually. He really was a nice person
and very gentle, although the character he presented at the fair was a
bit more in character with the part.

There have been a few times that I've heard that while Mike was
chopping kindling for the fireplace.

Its sweet that they each have their own way about them.  You are lucky in
that both of them want and need affection.  Not all cats do.

Molly is pretty independent.  And she has to think I'm the dumbest human on
the planet.  Because she is very good about letting me know when she needs
or wants something.  Its always food or water or out.  But I pretend not to
understand for a while just to soak up the attention from her before I get
her what she wants.

Molly almost never milk treads.  I've only seen her do that once or twice.
Jake is completely nuts about it.  He really gets into it and his eyes seem
to glaze over.  I have to be careful to wear at least two and usually three
layers to keep his claws from digging in.

What's odd, even though we got Jake when he was too young, only six weeks
old, he didn't start the behavior till he was three or four years old.

I thought that they were all pretty clingy, if not to hoomins, then to
each other. :)  I admit that I very redundantly ask the kids if they
want to be fed.  I ask them something along the lines of, "Would you
like some food?  Do you want food?  Do you like food?  You want to
have some food?" :)

Betty can't be 'replaced' in your heart with another cat, but I'm glad
that Dot and Buster are doing such a good job of filling the void Betty
left behind.

Oh yes, her loss would've been unbearable without them.  But because
Betty and Dot seem to share the same birthday (approximately), I
sometimes feel as though I've been granted an unnatural second chance,
and that we're on borrowed time.  I sometimes have nightmares about
losing her to an illness.
