The Phantom revealed - purrs

Tonight over dinner we finally caught The Phantom Pisser.

Last night the Phantom pissed on Dylan's shoes.  We scrubbed the spot
very well with cleaner and febreze, and Dylan put his shoes in the
closet after washing the soles (thankfully the Phantom only wet the
soles, not inside the shoes).

As I put chow mein in my mouth tonight I  saw a Nox over on the shoes,
and then I realized she wasn't sitting pretty, she was in a squat.  So
I called to Dylan to turn around...yes, a puddle of pee right where
there had been pee last night.

We took Nox to the vet last month.  We KNOW she doesn't have any
health problems.

So while we dont' need to worry about our other 3 having health
problems, it's frustrating that Nox is in perfect health and still
peeing inappropriately...when there's a clean litter box less than 5
human steps away.

We cleaned the area again.  Most of the time the Phantom hits things
in the hallway/entryway, so we have cleaned away ALL shoes (into
closets), ALL Bags (hanging on hooks), All recycling (kept in kitchen
until we carry it out), and all stray coats and mitts.  THe floor is
barren.  Then we put food bowls on the place where the PHantom tends
to piss.  We hope if we remove all targets, and put food there, Nox
wont' be inclined to piss the middle of the floor.

Please can we have purrs that this will be the end of the Phantom
Pisser?  I just don't know what to do with a cat that won't stop
peeing where she shouldn't (And we have feliway, 4 clean litterboxes,
and no reason for her to do this!)

Perhaps she wants a new name  -- can you blame her?

Dot, an ex-phantom pisser (and pooper) is sending purrs.  What worked
for her was a combination of empty litter boxes and aluminum foil.  If
you want to try basically what I tried, put an attractive pee target
such as one of Dylan's best shoes :) in an empty litter box, and place
it in a good pee spot.  Cover other pee spots with aluminum foil, and
see if this starts steering her towards the box.

After visiting Tak's house and seeing the aluminum foil in action I put it
down around the Aggie's litter box as she peeped beside the box but not in
it frequently. Go figure. Works like a charm!

Nocturne had a complete urinalysis at the vet because we suspected her
of being the Phantom last month...we just didnt' have proof.  So
unless she's got something that even a complete urinalysis didn't pick
up, it's not medical.

Thank you for the tip about the aluminum foil.  I'll give that a try.

I didn't realize that I was part of a trend. :)  I actually don't have
aluminum foil in those areas anymore.  I tried taking some of it away,
and found that she still occasionally peed when I did, so put it back,
then tried taking it away again.  Haven't had any accidents in almost
half a year now, so it doesn't necessarily even have to be a permanent
thing.

many purrs on the way for nocturne to stop whatever vengeful trip she is on.

Hmmm, piss here, get food.  Smart cat.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Seriously, I hope she decides to stop. This behavior must be driving
you nuts.

Oh, ick, I feel for you.  In my old house on Maui we had a stray cat that
would come in during the night, eat my cats' food and pee on the kitchen
counter.  Because of that, my cat Moire' started peeing on the stray cat's
pee.  A territorial thing, I guess?  Anyway, that smell never goes away.
Why Nox is doing this in her own home is kind of odd.  Major purrs she stops
this behavior quickly!

Purrs on the way. I can understand how frustrating it is for you.

Through the years I had occasionally a cat urinating in the wrong
spot.
I then put a litterbox for a few days in that spot to make my point
clear.
It worked every time.

Are your cats allowed to go out and is Nox maybe only pissed because
its
winter outside and not nice to pee there then?

Fil, even though she was just seen by the vet, urinary tract infections can
arise suddenly (I know, I've suffered with them my whole life).  It could
even be something else that he didn't / didn't think to check for (such as
interstitial cystitis).  If it were me I think I'd take her in just to be
sure she doesn't have any pain when urinating that she's associating with
the litter box.
