Charleen Welton - 10 Feb 2008 21:59 GMT Well Four has taken one big step backwards and one small step forward. Although his wound is small relative to what it was it is still open and is again infected. Our hero, Dr. Mulero, is semi-retired and is only in the clinic on Thursdays. I will call tomorrow, Monday, and ask that another vet review Four's file and represcribe his antibiotic. Hopefully Four will not have to go to the clinic. I hope I will be able to pick up the meds and start him immediately. Purrs please that that will happen.
The step forward is that somehow or other the doors between the porch and laundry room and then the laundry room and kitchen were left open and Four strolled on into the kitchen. Victor Velcro was at the other end of the kitchen, which is moderate in size, and there was looking at each other but no hissing or fur puffing. Four returned to the porch. That is a good step indeed!

Sometimes an infection will seem to be gone, but a few bugs remain, and in the absence of antibiotics, will start to grow again. Another course should do it, with a few purrs for good measure!

Thanks Tak. We are putting into motion all the purrs sent this way. It was very discouraging to find the wound reinfected but I'm sure it will be quickly healed with the med I will pick up tomorrow. I'm coming your way mid-May. Will call you and Suz later.

> Purrrrrz that Fours wound keeps healing. Thank you, we're using up those purrs. The boys, Four and Victor have taken on a project themselves. When I fed Four this evening Victor came onto the porch. Four was aware of Victor being there. Four continued eating so he obviously didn't feel threaten. Victor jumped up onto the chaise lounge and then onto the top floor of the KK. There was no growling, no postering, nothing negative at all. I removed Victor as I intend to keep them seperate until Four's wound is completely closed. Good boys!!

It is now small so I'm sure it will be controlled and wiped out quickly. I mix it in his food as he would eat the pattern off the dish if there were a pattern on the dish so I know he is getting the med. He is a good cat, litter box issue aside.

My husband enjoys petting her a little roughly (which she also likes, I don't know why) but she lets out screams of extasy when he does it. I have to tell him to quit "playing the cat"! Meanwhile, my husband laughs hysterically. I've got to get a movie of it because it really is truly funny. Chloe rolls and rolls in the chair, eyes closed, in full caterwaul mode. It's their thing. I can't play her. :~)

Aggie (13 y.o.) is a former feral and had unfair expectations placed on her when she was just months old. Even at this age she seldom comes out from under the bed. Have no idea how the Aggie/Four introduction will happen.

It sounds like things will work out in the end. Thank you, very much. So far things are okay. Four didn't need to see the vet, his Rx was just renewed. He and Victor Velcro seem to be developing their own relationship. My husband and I will deal with boarding up the KK next week-end and hopefully that will solve the kitty litter box issue. Yep, sounds like things are working out okay. Thanks again Adrian.
Stormmee - 12 Feb 2008 01:10 GMT put the food in there in as big a plate as you can until you get it closed up, might give him the idea its a food place before the closing and might help when you open it up again, shallow, flat surface with dry kibble, and beings its this cat I bet he will help himself, Lee

>> The following link is to three pictures. One is of Four the other two to >> the porch where Four lives. >> >> http://www.weltonfamily.net/Four/default.htm > > He has such a remarkably sweet face! He does have a sweet face Dan. He is a mystery to me. I believe that he was someone's pet at one time for a number of reason's and yet there are other reasons that lead me to believe that he never was a pet.
I think he was owned by someone because when he first arrived in the neighborhood (more than 3 years ago) he was a fully grown Maine Coon Cat, very well nourished and groomed, social, very, very social animal. He would go from house to house to visit the residents. He never wanted food although he would accept snacks if given. He didn't take shelter at any place in the neighborhood that any of us are aware of. He didn't look at all as if he spent his nights outdoors. His coat was particularly striking. Four can be picked up. He was intact as though he was used for breeding.
I believe that he wasn't a house pet because he is not litter box trained and because he was intact. He was not microchipped or tattooed. Because after he received his horrendous injury he was not taken in by his family and given medical attention.
It a moot point of course because he has been taken in now but he is so sweet I find it hard to understand why someone would willingly give him up. There had to have been extenuating circmstances.
One of life's mystery's!
Charleen
Stormmee - 12 Feb 2008 01:15 GMT the extenuating circumstance is stupidity, very similar to Chester and Tiger,... Tiger was a wonderful cat who from his behavior was thrown away when someone moved, he was also in tact. Chester was rescued by the shelter on his last day at the pound, he was already fixed and was chipped, I can not find one bad habit beyond the occasional scratching, he is friendly, talkative, and a joy to be around,... I have after much consideration decided that Chester's person must have passed away and Tigers should be found and put down, Lee
> -- > Charleen [quoted text clipped - 33 lines] > > Charleen Charleen Welton - 12 Feb 2008 02:46 GMT Hmmm Lee, that would account for it. And your solution is quite interesting but we need you where you have access to a computer and RPCA 24/7 and bars don't spoil the view so here's hoping you don't find the culprit! C.
