And what are you nervous about

as long as you introduce them right there is no reason to be nervous

I brought two baby kittens into a house with a big malamute dog and all was
well.  The older cat and the dog respected each others space but if you
don't force the issue and let them work it out, all should be well.

Sure they can. Whether they will or not is yet to be seen but all may
yet be very well. I would say alert is justified but nervous probably
isn't.

Depends on the cat and the circumstances. How feral is the cat? Does it
just come in to the yard for food, does it let you pet it, does it come
indoors? Or is far enough along the socialization process that he is
willing to stay indoors?  How rambunctious is the pup? Will they have
human superivision when they're near each other?

We've never had a problem.  Molly has more patience with Kayla than Jake
does.  And Jake is the one who was always good with dogs.  I caught her
headbutting Camille the other day too.

Mostly I'm just glad both cats have finally stopped looking at Camille like
prey.

2 of our cats were feral when we rescued them, the third had been
abandoned before she adopted us. They all got along with our dog
Merlin (RB) famously as can be seen here:
http://www.nakedhoof.com/bevness/allus.php

We supervised their first interactions, but we didn't do anything
special in terms of behavior. Probably puppies and kittens will work
things out in their own way so long as you watch them. The cats
weren't too keen on having their butts sniffed by the dog at first,
but they got over it... And though Merlin was reprimanded by kitty
claws a few times over the years, he never reciprocated. :-)

Truly, Merlin was never a worry -- he was a gentle soul who is missed
every day by each of us.
