Hmm... I wonder what's happened.
I feed the birds year round and in the winter months I put extra food out. As a
result, my garden is usually a hive of avain activity, filled with the sound of
birds singing, tweeting, chirruping, etc., etc.. I place nut & seed feeders up
where the cats can't get to them, and I really do have loads of avian visitors
on a daily basis.
Where have they gone? All feeding stations filled... yet hardly a bird in
sight. It's very strange and very, very disconcerting. Especially with the
relative cold, this normally the time I have most birds about as they stuff
themselves full of food to give themselves enough energy to get through the
cold nights.

They are now back. Little b*ggers were in hiding to scare me. Obviosuly I have
feathered lifeforms pulling b*st*rd bird tricks in my garden ;-)

Helen, don't know if you get hawks and owls where you live but sometimes our
bird-feeding stations get very quiet because one of these are in the yard.

Our birds completely ignore us in the summer. They're not even back yet. They
won't come back until we get a freeze. I'm looking forward to the little
finches and cardinals, the bossy bluejays, the pretty woodpecker that always
comes back.
