Its been a week of medical stress. I have to have a mammogram (in a
fortnight, the earliest available), and Joel.... well, he is being sent to a
specialist too, so urgently, we got an apointment *the next day* (ie,
tomorrow morning).

I am worried stupid for the both of us.

Don't usually ask for purrs, but I think I'm about to lose it. We don't even
mention whats going on at work.

Thanks guys, your da bomb!

Oh dear, Vicky, it sounds ominous. Oodles of purrs are on their way to
you both.

Are you sure your mammogram isn't just routine? You must be getting
close enough to the age where a baseline is needed. I don't know when
women start in Australia - in California, they start around 40. At least,
I was in my early 40s when I got my first one.

The urgency of Joel's appointment certainly sounds worrisome - purrs
that it turns out to be nothing. For both of you!

Absolutely sure. I made the apointment with my GP after feeling 'weird' in
that area, and he sent me off to the mammogram. *That* is why I am worried.

Free screenings happen here after 50. I will pay near $180 to get this done,
and will be able to claim some of it back from Medicare. Its still alot of
cash to come up with, but the possibel implications of waiting till I can
'afford' it make me even more terrified. This, after all, is what credit
cards were invented for.

Yah. Has me worried too. Him being the man, though, won't talk about it
much.

Vicki,

A few years ago, I found a lump in my breast and was scared to death. It
turned out to be nothing. I think in the vast majority of cases, what we
find and then have scanned turns out to be nothing. But Doctors, rightly
so, continue to send us for non-routine scans because just often enough
it is something.

For right now, tell yourself that the chances that it is something
cancerous are small and you are just checking it out. When you get the
results and know what you are dealing with, THEN you can worry if you
need to. For now, there is nothing you can accomplish with worry. It
won't change the results and there are no actions you can take with your
worry energy. Put your energy into thinking positive and taking care of
yourself. You can't go wrong with that. It isn't like you are not paying
attention to what may be wrong, but you have done all you can at the
moment. Now just take care of yourself in nice ways.

Love,
Bridget, Tony, Stripey Thing and Mattie

You know we love you right?  When you start to worry, especially if you are
feeling quite alone, we are there with you holding your hand, arms around
your shoulders.

Of course we will put the cats to work, but we are for you as well.
