I often get a little itchy in the winter, nothing too serious.  This year, I
seem to have a near-full-body case of dermatitis.  I feel as if I am being
slowly roasted over an open flame.  The areas of itching are too big for
those little bottles of ointment, although I am earnestly trying to stay
moisturized.   This winter has been one stupid thing after another for me.
Could you please purr that my skin calms down soon?  I am off to take an
oatmeal bath.

Purrs on the way. Would antihistamine tablets help?

The only thing that finally helped me, even after steroid creams and the
whole nine yards with a dermatologist, was Oil of Olay in shower lotion
called moisture rinse. That stuff is a  miracle. I highly recommend you
try it. In the mean time, I will get the cats to purr.

That has to be miserable.  I apparently have some sort of dermatitis as
well, but Aveeno cream on the affected parts is helping, so I'm lucky.
Many purrs that your skin feel much better soon.

I know how miserable that can be.  And almost anything that should make it
feel better only makes it worse.

I have to avoid really hot water and any more than a tiny bit of soap.  If
the itching gets too bad, I can't wash my hair more than twice a week and
shower every other day.

I've found out that there is something in hair conditioner that makes me
itch too.

SARNA Sensitive Anti Itch Lotion can be a lifesaver.

Vermont's Original BAG BALM is wonderful for dry cracked skin, especially on
hands, elbows and feet.

UGH, that sounds miserable! I get these bouts of extreme itchiness in
specific places (on my forearms, backs of my hands, and my feet), not
sure what causes it, but I find that pretty miserable. I can't even
imagine what it must be like to have your whole body involved.

Is there a systemic medication you could take for this? If it's dryness
that's causing it, could you install a humidifier in your bedroom or
elsewhere in your house?

Anti-itching purrs on the way!

Actually, when my skin is feeling good, I've been known to use this stuff:

It smells absolutely unreal. ;)

Purrs that the oatmeal eases the itching.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!! Does antihistamine help? That
is the only thing that helps when I get itchy.

Try zyrtec. You can get it over the counter now.

My girlfriend has had this, and what worked better for her than
Zirtek was Periactin (cyproheptadine).  It's a very old drug and
one of the cheapest on the market - most pharmacists don't keep
it in stock (doesn't make them enough money) but they can get it
on special order.  It may make some people sleepy, but usually
not after the first couple of times you've tried it.

Check what's in whatever you're using as a moisturizer.  Marion
turned out to be violently allergic to one of the commonest
preservatives used in skin creams.  Baby creams generally have
less allergenic stuff in them.

I was a horribly allergic child to many things so I am there with you,
Theresa.  I know that itching.  I grew out of most of it. Not all.
Lots of purrs and big hugs for your skin to behave
