Wear an oven mitt...it works..I swear..over the years, being owned by cats
of all kinds, I have scars, but a few years ago, I tried an oven mitt. It
worked:)
We had a blast and nobody got hurt..
I wear snow gloves when I clip the sharp needle points off their toes...it's
NOT de-clawing, which I am totally against, but I just use a pair of nail
clippers, and give them (4) their monthly manicure. Pipps, age 2, really
swears and growls at me but I just talk to her and let her vent...her mom,
Sqweex, doesn't like it either, but Mosey and Pookie (he got Sqweex pregnant
and the 1 surviving of the 3 kittens she had was Pipps)
Afterwards, I give them a brushing and some catnip.
BTW, Pipps loves to play fetch with a pipecleaner..she is a riot:) She's 2.
Anyhooooo
Oven mitt...
try it:)

I've used heavy winter gloves on Buster when he's especially worked
up. He's usually fairly gentle nevertheless though, even recently
learning how to bunny-kick my wrist with his toe pads, and to chew on
my fingers rather than chomping down on them.

One of my former kittens sometimes needed to play rough, so we would use
an old t-shirt wrapped around our hand and let him at it. We didn't
want to encourage rough play with our hands, but there was no way to
stop him. So we taught him that he could only play rough with the t-
shirt, not our hands. He'd bunny kick, chew, growl, and vent all his
frustrations on that shirt.
