Redundant cat?

We have a delightful little cat and she has lot's of character, some of it
good. She is very successful at catching small rodents and occasionally
birds. She brings her prey home and most of the time we are able to release
it later unharmed (after she has got bored with it). However, it is unwise
to try to take a mouse of her as she growls like a diminutive tiger. One
incident makes me wonder whether she is worth her upkeep; after all cats are
supposed to keep rodents out of the house regardless of what they do when
they hunt outside. My daughter was clearing out our under stairs cupboard
and discovered a vole living in a comfortable nest it had made for itself.
To add insult to injury there was a pile of our cat's dry food pellets next
to the nest. These had been stolen from the cat's food bowl which is near
the cupboard door. I was a little upset about the vole being dumped outside
because the weather was cold and the little creature had got used to central
heating. Yet, it shouldn't have been in the house in the first place if our
cat was any use. Should I tell her to find some other sucker to feed her and
pay her vet bills?

Perhaps she was keeping it as "her pet".  After all, everyone needs a pet.

LOL. Just like my Miranda, she needs someone to show her what cats are
supposed to do with their prey.
