My aching rib made sleep difficult through the night, I tried to touch Lyle
this morning (first attemp in a week) and he ran away crying for his
brother and then I see this on the way to work: One cat huddles under a
car and clearly a littermate dead in the road. That was bad enough but
after I passed I saw the cat under the car go out to the other cat trying
to get it to respond. It's 5:45 when I get into my office and I am already
in a rotten mood.

Purrs for something to brighten your day. Purrs for the cat that lost its
friend and a candle lit for the one that went to the bridge. :-(

Maybe I should not have posted this. It was bad enough me seeing it
without sharing it with others.
You can imagine, considering how these brothers I just took in rely on each
other, what I felt seeing that. There are so many feral cats (I assume
feral) at that one block. It is an outer borough of New York City and not a
place for cats to be outside. I hate people so much sometimes.

I doubt it. Just too many fertile cats without homes.

Near where I live the local RSPCA catch the feral cats that live the
other side of the fence and worm and flea them. They seem to stay the
other side of the fence during the day though.
Where my mother live a feral or stray tried to get into her house. He
attacked my mothers young cat and she was waving a broom to try and get
him to move, and he kept trying to run into her house !
Devilishly clever animal. I had a strange cat given to me by mistake
and he would not live with me. He went to live on a farm and I found
out that he was taken from one of these homes where there are loads of
cats and that he did not have much contact with humans. The shelter I
got him from was filthy and crowded with cats, they were like mice
running around such was their number. But the woman who ran it was on
a tight budget and she rescued many animals from cats-donkeys-foxes and
fish.

You can never be sure, sadly some people do just that.

Of course you should. We can share the burden. Purrs for both the killed
and the surviving cat.

I was very sad for you when Baggy lost Milo too.

I often think about Milo, it's hard to believe I lost him 4½ years ago.
:-( Baggy sometimes trys to get Shadow to play with him, Shadow just looks
confused.

Aw, I hope Shadow learns to play! At least it doesn't sound like he is
aggressive towards Baggy.
What happened to Milo was a huge shock. Hard to believe it's been so long.

I had to pick a cat up when a car hit it. I was driving on the opposite
side. It was horrible because with blood coming out of his ear I had
to find his owners. The woman was really upset and her husband said
that it was the 4th cat to be killed. IMO that is negligent on their
part and there home is just off a very busy road with just backing
space and paving beteen busy road.
It could have all been avoided.

That's so sad! Poor little surviving kitty! I'm sure you'll be
giving your pair lots of cuddles (once they allow it).

You know I thought of _them_ right away.

Try not to think about it too much. It is rare that I see a cat killed by
traffic on my commute to work, maybe two in 17 years but it always upsets
me.
I used to think about the uneaten breakfast and the owners searching.
I had to stop doing that.
Just concentrate on your new boys.
