He tripped me up with winding between my feet on Wednesday evening, hoping
for yet more food although he had been fed not two hours earlier.
I fell backwards on to the edge of my table. I had to have a home visit
from the doctor today - this is unheard of for me. I have cracked two ribs
apparently, to say it is agony would be an understatement.
My lovely friend June (not that she doesn't have plenty to do herself with
all her whippets and a useless OH who cannot stir his tea on his own) is
coming daily to feed and water my chickens and let Francis D out) and came
last night too to shut them up against the fox. I tried, but I could not
even get down the step from my back door.
My employers might get fed up with me soon. Since 2001 I have had 5 eye
operations, ovarian ca operation, incisional hernia op (which has failed)
While the doc was here looking at my rib injury I took the opportunity to
mention the failure of my hernia op and show him the result. He said "when
your back is better, come down to the surgery and I will refer you back to
the surgeon."
He was not able to give me a sick note for work. That is because when he
phoned me this morning to establish if I could breathe and urinate he put
the phone down when I was about to say..I might need a sick note for work.
When he had seen me I asked him for a sick note, I can only have 5 days
without one and weekends count into this. This will not be 5 day thing.
So he did not have his "sick-note pad" with him. He said "you should have
asked for one when I spoke to you on the phone"
I said "Well, I would have done if you had not put the phone down before I
had finished speaking" !!

Ugh, I'm sorry you got hurt! That sounds very painful.
Could your doctor mail you the sick note?
What's an "OH"? (June's OH.)
And how is Boyfriend after all this? Does he even have sense of what
happened to you?

From the description, my guess was "Old Husband". ;-)

Glad you asked, was wondering that too! Have heard them called DH, dear
husband, I guess. Also seen a few initials that I haven't asked about
because my guess was probably right!!!.

Oh, of course! :)
A friend of mine refers to her partner as the "OH", which stands for
"outlaw husband". They got married, but didn't tell the government,
meaning, they had a ceremony for friends and family, but are not
legally married.
I didn't think that was what Christina meant, though.

It is. Mega.
> Could your doctor mail you the sick note?
I have to ring up on Tuesday to get one. I don't know if I can get it sent
in the post, I had no chance to ask. He was as quick at the visit as on the
phone. One minute examination "yes, you have cracked or broken some ribs.
If you have trouble breathing go to the hospital, take your painkillers that
I prescribed, goodbye I am very busy.."

Other half.

No. He does not know, cats do not have abstract thoughts. It was an
accident and I am not annoyed with him, it's just one of those things.

I am so sorry! I know cracked ribs can be terribly painful. When my
husband cracked a couple of his, he couldn't lie down, so he slept sitting
up in a recliner, with his feet up, for a couple of weeks. I hope you have
something like that you can use.

Oh Christina, and happy new year. What a dreadful break, no pun intended.
Healing purrs, and a few for your doctor to get a clue. And for your
workplace to understand how valuable you are.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident Christina. Purrs coming your way
to get your sick note sorted out and starting to heal soon.
I have cracked a rib before and I taped my ribcage and put on a tight
sports bra for extra rib support so that I could go to work. I was
articling at the time and time off wasn't an option. Very painful I
know - you don't realize how much you turn and twist until you've
cracked a rib.

I cracked a rib once before at the front by falling off a horse That was
bad enough, but doing the same at the back seems more painful. The
painkillers my doctor has given me are not really touching the pain and if
you could go to work with the level of pain I have at the moment I can only
admire you.
It would be impossible for me atm. I can hardly move because I am in such
pain.

The fall I took back in October cracked a rib (maybe two). It healed up
pretty much by November-December. Last week I lay down on my stomach to
crawl under a piece of furniture at work to reach a plug strip and I heard
and felt a snap. SONOFA....! A day or two later and the discomfort really
kicked in. I can get around and do most of what I need to but it is not
fun. Not as bad off as you but enough to "feel" your pain. This never
happened when I was 20.

I hope it heals quickly and that your doctor can send you the sick note.
I've never cracked any ribs just my arm once when I was little and a
second time as a teen. I used the cast to bonk my brother with when he
teased me, and I also think mum still has that first cast stashed off
somewhere. :)

OUCH!!!! I hope you feel better soon and I am sure the doctor can post
your sick note and hope your employers are understanding. You might
want to point out the career of my office manager since she joined us,
she had several days off after a rounders ball hit her in the face and
damaged her eye, she then had 'flu which turned into a chest infection
and recently she was off a month with shingles. This is since March
2007.And she's just handed in her notice as she's got another job-
your employers are lucky to have you!
I've never done anything quite as bad as that but I've pulled my knee
(Dunzi), damn near knocked myself out cold (Isis-RB) and smacked my
arm against a door or cupboard (every cat I've ever been owned by).
They just don't realise two leg braking is not as good as four leg!
Hope Boyfie apologises

Hmm, no <'s for my reply:
I don't need to worry I suppose. I've been there since 1989 and I know that
the expertise I have in my job is second to none (seems not very modest to
say it, but it's true.) I just feel guilty as since 2001 I have had one
thing after another. First I nearly lose my sight and am off work for ages
having a series of eye ops. Then I go back and my mother died suddenly and
unexpectedly (we were very close) and I got bullied by a manager. I got
clinical depression then. I just got back after that and I got the cancer
jobbie, another 6 months off, then I get the incisional hernia from that,
another 10 weeks off as it got infected.
Now I have this..

I've never done anything quite as bad as that but I've pulled my knee

Pulling your knee is very painful, one of my dogs caused me to do that.

Hope Boyfie apologises

I don't expect him to. He has no idea that he caused it and I'm glad he
doesn't. I don't want a cat with a guilty conscience.

Purrs and gentle headbutts on the way, Tweed. I know you realize
Boyfriend did not mean to hurt you and I imagine he's being a good

He's trying to be a nurse cat, perhaps? He gets up on my knee in the
evening, but he is a kneader and it is too painful. He always does this in
the winter anyway,
> He should at least bring you a collared dove for

I wish. Kitty needs one. He hasn't brought one home for months. They are
everywhere atm but as it is winter he prefers to lie on the spare bed all
day and just nip outside now and again for toilet duties and a quick rat
patrol, merely to say "Yep, there are rats.. now show me that duvet.

Many years ago (where does the time go?) my bouncing baby boy (2 yrs old)
bounced on me and broke four ribs. After suffering for several days I
went to the doctor. I had forgotten about the "bounce". He said my ribs
were cracked. He taped me with wide tape-- back to front -- and I got
immediate relief. I had to remove the tape frequently and soon learned
to re-tape myself. It is painful but will get better. Purrs for quick
relief. MLB
