Abby likes to sit on my lap facing me. Today she came to sit on my lap and
started sniffing my shirt. Then worked her way up to my face. I've been sick
with a cold and have a bad cough. I was sucking on a cough drop and she
didn't know what the smell was.

Stinky can get very excited by something on my breath, the silly goof.  He
especially like mint.  Many nights, after I do my teeth,  he tries to pry my
jaws apart so he can inhale the minty vapors. ;)

Indie is like that, too. I just softly blow a little freshly-brushed
breath her way, and once she catches the scent, she'll come get up in my
face trying to get her nose into my mouth.  It comes in handy when I'm
trying to pick her up for some reason and she's playing hard to get.

Same here - when I had a cold some weeks ago I put one drop of China
Oil under my nose to make breathing easier. This is a very sharp
mixture of menthol and peppermint oils.
Linus got very excited about that scent and tried to lick my nose. As
I know that etheric oils are poisonus for cats I put my hand before my
nose which made sleeping a hard thing to do.<g>
After some minutes Linus got the message and lay down on my stomach to
sniff my breath.
I was thinking that catnip or cat mint might be related to pepper mint
and some cats really like that smell even though peppermint is way
sharper that catnip.
Now Linus behaves like a odor sniffing device - he can be three rooms
away when I put that drop China Oil on - he appears 3 minutes after I
did so. He must get the scent even three rooms away (which would be
the kitchen). So we now have a little meeting every night, me keeping
my nose protected as he once actually bit into it. <g>, and he trying
to get as much scent as possible.

That's interesting. My cats HATE the minty smell of toothpaste and
mouthwash.  It's a good way to get them to hop off the bathroom
counter in fact.  I suspect those mints are more of the "artificial
flavor" variety though, not the natural oils.

The Princess Rita seems to love the taste of Vaseline Intensive Care
Skin Cream.  I use a lot of it on my hands, and she licks my fingers
very thoroughly after application.
Ick.

Lately she's been trying to climb onto my enormous mountain of a belly
when I'm laying in bed at night, but the stress of the recent holiday
season has left me feeling like my intestines are bruised, so it
hasn't been a happy time for us.  (That's where stress always hits me.
Ick.)

I often drink before going to bed. Cider or orange juice. Booze is for
before I type to newsgroups. Anyway, WooToo always sniffs me when she
comes to join me. If it was cider she hangs around, obviously
enjoying. She doesn't react _negatively_ to orange juice (or to
grapefruit juice on a couple of occasions) but moves away after a
moment and seeks her usual spot where she can control blanket-usage.

I once found Mir licking the mouth of an empty carton of orange juice.

Which is why, whenever you hear someone say, "All cats <fill-in-the-blank>",
you can safely assume that somewhere, there is a cat who does not do
whatever was filled in the blank.

I've always heard that all cats hate citrus. :)
