it's my bed?

I am beginning to have serious doubts as to whether I even get mattress
space anymore. They used to be polite about the bed and gave me what I
needed if I gave them what they needed. Then the temperature dropped to
single digits (above and below 0 degrees F -  -18 degrees give or take
some degrees) and suddenly there is no space in the bed. Stripey Thing
used to sleep in the bottom corner of the bed that I didn't ever use.
Now he sprawls out to get my body heat taking up the bottom third of the
bed. Tony used to curl up right next to my pillow. Now he is a heat
seeking missile and lays completely alongside my entire body stretched
out to get all that heat. Could be one side could be the other. Point is
he takes up half the bed doing it. Mattie used to be comfortable most
nights sleeping in the computer chair and as snuggly as she is, I didn't
argue because even when the cats were well behaved, two were really
enough in bed. Now she is in bed and if she can't get her favorite side
of me to lay alongside taking up the other half of the bed, she lays
atop me on my side - not my hip, my actual side forcing me to put my arm
in weird positions to accommodate her - or she lies on my pillow
appropriating as much of that space as she feels want to do and lays on
my head.

I used to have favorite sleeping positions, now I only have positions
that make me and the cats happy. They are kind masters however and allow
me to get up to go potty in the middle of the night. They maintain their
positions however so getting back into bed is really a trick. Tony is
lying where you would sit on the bed so I have to crawl in between them
and tuck myself back around them. They don't so much as move while I
situate myself. If I bobble them or accidently kick one of them or lay
on one of them, they just take it until I settle down.

I no longer believe it is my bed. I believe I am just allowed to sleep
there to provide more warmth than the blankets can do by themselves. I
am under no illusion the cats love me more. I am heat and they are using
me. When I sit down in the recliner, I always have two cats, one in each
arm and one who wanders across my lap looking for extra space. I have
the thermostat up to 70, but cold air sinks and they know it.

I know the feeling.  I have even gotten up and gone into the other bedroom
thinking "let them have the bed".  Silly me, the next time I wake up, there
are the three cats hogging the space.

The classic sleeping posish around here is me on my side, semi-curled up.
Stinky is in front of me, either by my head, or curled up against my middle.
Dante is curled up behind my knees.  So think of an S-curve, with a cat in
each loop. ;)

Your three are so cute.  I wish mine could co-exist in bed that well.
Dot usually sleeps between my legs nowadays.  Her soft squishy body
sort of fills up that space, so that no matter how I'm positioned, she
looks as snug as a tooth filling.  Buster would sometimes like to
sleep with me too, but he's a bit wary of being smacked in the head by
Dot, so will usually come around when he doesn't see her.

Yesterday morning, Dot had moved to the crook of my arm, under the
covers.  Buster sometimes likes to get under the covers too, so he
came to investigate to see if there was an opportunity.  His stepping
on the bed disturbed Dot, and she came out to investigate.  Buster's
eyes went wide as he saw his sisfur magically emerge!  He went over to
the covers at the head of the bed and sniffed all around very
carefully to make sure there were no more Dots waiting to come out.
In the meantime, Dot walked by him and went to the foot of the bed on
top of the covers to lay next to my ankles.

Buster finally decided it was safe to investigate under the covers,
and went spelunking, going all the way down the side of my body, down
to my legs.  Dot's eyes went wide at the huge bedlump heading her way.
She gingerly stepped where Buster's head was.

Startled, Buster zoomed out from under the covers, and he and Dot
looked at each other, all surprised and wide-eyed.

Cute! Something like this happened recently at my place, too. Smudge
was under the covers, pretty far down. Roxy was sleeping at the foot of
my bed. At some point, she got up and started walking toward my head,
probably to cuddle with me. But on the way, she had to pass the cat lump.
As she stepped near it, it suddenly started growling at her. She looked
very alarmed and decided not to continue on that path. :)
