I was just thinking about KFC and was wondering if she was feeling better
now.

Gosh I only just noticed this, Adrian.  She is still not very well.
Sometimes she eats but often she doesn't.  I am doing what I always did for
my dogs with end stage CRF.  "Would you like this chicken or this
salmon/tuna pate? or anything else?"

I know when it's time to let go and it isn't yet.

Purrs for her to be as comfortable as possible, for as long as she
does have left. I'm glad you're spoiling her.

Thanks, Joyce.  Appetite gets depressed by CRF but she loves this
lactose-free milk I have found for her, and if she does not fancy eating she
will always drink that every few hours.  It seems to kick-start her again.

Thank you so much, Polonca.  When cats get to a great age like KFC has it is
inevitable that they will get some illness or other that will threaten their
life.  I think she is comfortable enough for the moment sleeping in front of
the fire, having her litterbox nearby and being tempted by nice food.  We
will stay together for a bit longer..

We are always purring for the Grand Old Lady.

Thanks, Marina, she is a remarkable cat really, having got so old and having
the semi-feral life she had previously.
She panicks me when she refuses to eat her delicacies - and then a day later
she says "why did you take so long to get up this morning - I was hungry.."
Even so, she only eats about half what she should, so I know she will not be
with us for too much longer.
I am giving her the best life I can for as long as I can.  I can't do any
more than that.

I know so well how that feels. Frank wasn't eating very well during his
last months, and he had trouble with his tummy. How very happy I was
when he made the rare solid poo! Then plunged into despair again when it
wasn't solid the next day. It was such a roller-coaster. I think, if I
hadn't had Mir and Caliban with their kitten antics to cheer me up, I
might have gone quite mad with worry.

It's awful, isn't it?  My life seems to revolve around whether Kitty will
eat and what I can get to tempt her.  If she does I am happy and if she
doesn't I am in despair too like you were with Frank.
Atm there is a turkey drumstick roasting in the oven just for her, the lower
part of the leg.  I am all out of pheasants.
I am trying not to go mad with worry about her.  My heart says "yes, go mad
with worry."  My head says she is 22 years old and how much longer can I
expect her to live?
It's so hard.

Hi Tweed,

Many purrs for KFC (and Boyfie who is probably a bit worried about
whatever has set his slave to worrying).  I have no doubt that you
know when it will be her time, and I will comfort as I can when that
time arrives.  Until then, however...

Barnabus (my 14.5 year old boy) is in the early stage of RF.  I've
found that Gerber baby food (just the meats), mixed with a little warm
water, tempts him greatly when nothing else does.  He likes the Beef,
Chicken, Turkey, Veal, Ham, and another I can't recall off the top of
my head.  A spoonful of that and a little bit of 'treat' dry kibble
(Fancy Feast Gourmet/Chicken and Turkey) twice a day, seems to keep
him from losing any *more* weight.

Vet said, if she hadn't known his weight a year ago, she would not
have worried at all about him.  She said for an "old boy" he was in
great shape, but the 4 pound weight loss worried her.  He seems to be
fine now, but isn't gaining any of it back, which I suppose isn't a
horrible thing, he was a bit chubby.

Always in my thoughts and prayers.

Smokie Darling (Annie) - whose Nicodemus (a female chocolate point
Siamese, RB 2003) passed and no one knew how old she was.  She had
ground all her 'small' teeth down the gum line.  Vets figured she was
probably 24+, still had her fangs though, and knew how to use them too
<smile>.  I still miss her.
