OT running bubbels as a standalone

I have figured out how to run bubbels on my Windows XP machine as a
standalone, so I don't have to be connected to the web to play it.  The
process is somewhat long, but I will post it if enough are interested.

As if having the shortcut on my desktop and a DSL connection isn't causing
me enough problems.

Cleared the screen for a total of 83,000 plus points this afternoon.

I need a screen saver for my retinas.  Starting to get dark blue and green
burn in.

Instructions on how to make 'bubbels' a standalone game.

The procedure has 3 steps:

1. Copy the bubbels.swf from the temporary internet folder
to another folder where it will be permanent.  (I call
  my folder 'games').

2. Make the computer automatically launch Internet Explorer
(Hereafter refered to as IE) when you double-click a
  file with extension .swf.

3. Make an icon on the desktop to click on to launch bubbels.

Step 1: You will have to make sure the file bubbels.swf is
actually in the temporary internet folder. It disappears
from day to day depending on what options were set. To be
sure it is there, use the IE browser to start bubbels from
the web.  You don't have to play it, just call it up once
the old way. Then you can close down IE and log off the web.
Locate the temporary interent folder: to do this click
start and then search. Next click 'all files and folders'.
next click 'advanced search'. In that window type in bubbels
as what to search on in the 'all or part of a file name'
box. Next click the small box in front of 'search hidden files
and folders' to turn on that option. Then click  the 'search'
button.  It should eventually give you a long path to
 bubbels.swf.  Mine was C:/documents and settings/jhill/
local settings/Temporary Internet files/.  Write this path
down carefully on a scrap paper.

Now use 'my computer' or 'windows explorer' to copy the
bubbels.swf file from that path to new permanent folder. In
my computer I copied it to folder 'games'. There are normally
lots of files in the temporary internet folder, so it takes
 some patience to find it.

Step 2: Using 'my computer' or 'windows explorer' go to the new
folder(games) and get a listing of the files there. If you did
step 1 correctly, bubbels.swf will be in the list.  Right click
on the bubbels.swf file name. On the submenu, click properties.
You should get another submenu that says in part, 'type of file:
shockwave flash object' the next line should say 'opens with'.
If it says opens with internet explorer, then you are done.  If
not click the browse button and select internet explorer from
 the list.
Now as a test bring up the list of files again, double (left)
click on the bubbels.swf file name and the game should start,
without being connected to the web. Exit IE for step 3.

Step 3: Bring up the list of files in the permanent folder(games). Be
sure this window is sized so that some of the desktop is visable.
Right click on the bubbels.swf filename and this time select
'create shortcut'.  Now a new filename titled 'shortcut to
bubbels.swf' should appear in the list.  Drag that shortcut
over to the desktop. A new icon should appear on the desktop with
the words shortcut to bubbels.swf under it.  You are done; clicking
on that new icon should launch bubbels.  You can usually drag that
icon to whereever you want it on the desktop, once you get the other
 program windows closed.

I've found that once it's loaded in Netscape, I can play offline. DH
says he's going to figure out how to save the file to my system. :-)
[I'm on Windows 2000, so I'm not sure an XP process would work for
me.]

No, no, no - last night after working late I was too tired to do anything
else and tried out the bubbles
and I did manage to kill them all! What a relief that was!! =)

Don't bring them back!!
;P
(after all the bubbles was cleared there was some message that I guess was
if I wanted to move up one level so clicked and had to try agian of course,
the bubbles are now advancing somewhat faster ...)

  What's a good score?  I got a couple of 32K scores.

I think that is good. I had only one above that (79K) but most are pretty
low and then about half of the rest are around 29K. I canNOT get all the
bubbles cleared which really irks me! I know it has been done so it can BE
done. I must go on until it happens.

It does, it does ... It will, it will ... =)

somewhere after 100K the refilling of Bubbles gave up, and then it counted
up whatever so the end figure was some 217K

Yep.  If you clear them all, it doubles your score so you get twice what you
were working on.

Still say that every once in a while the one you are getting set to shoot
changes color on you just to mess with your mind.

I swear that happens too!! I actually think I look at the one coming up in
the wings and my brain says it's the one I'm shooting but it sure seems like
it changes.

I definitely agree. Green changes to yellow or vice versa.

That or the layout rearranges itself specifically to take away that
terrific spot to send the bubble you *just* fired.

Thats debatable. If you are aiming to get the highest score, I think in the
100k region is pretty good. However, if you are aiming to finish the game,
one would argue that the lowest score possible is desirable. I don't think
you could finish a game with a score lower than 50k though (I could be wrong
on that)

It would be hard because you rack up points pretty fast when you get down to
three or two colors.

I cleared them with a final score of 33k+, but I must have been really
lucky, with huge clumps of same-colour bubbles. In the last screen, all
the bubbles were light blue, and I just had to shoot one and sit back
and watch them pop.

Oh, that's happened to me, too. I don't think I'll ever break that 33k

Don't count on it. I've cleared it twice, and now I just want to play
even more!

Ran the instructions through a translator and this is what it came up with:

The aim of with game is all remove bubbels of the baffle. Press on the
mousebutton to launch the field bubbel in. If 3 or more bubbels to each
other borders, these are solved. As some bubbels 10x as many points
come loose such as normally of the rest, solve these also and verdian
you. The 5 candle ends at the right-hand side give to how well you
play. If you shot has failed (no bubbels have been played), then comes
a red candle end. If there no green candle ends more fires come, to
the upper part a new file with bubbels. Just on that the bubbels too
far down do not come, differently it is game concerning!
Your score doubles if you have played all bubbels of the field!

Doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know by now, does it?

when the Lord confounded the lanaguages to help keep them from fighting
