Dave's brother just called to wish us a happy Xmas etc and he
mentioned that his FIL has got a mouse problem where he lives and so
he decided to get a cat. He's had cats before but not for the last
couple of years. Also since his wife died a cat will be company for
him as well as an organic solution to the mice problem
Anyway as he's not so young himself, he had Adam (Dave's brother) take
him to check out a possible cat from the rescue centre determined that
he didn't want a kitten and he has stuck to that.
Vetting has been completed and in a few days they are going to collect
the cat that chose him- a tuxedo boy who was handed in after his slave
died a few weeks ago who is about 10 years old- sounds like a perfect
match, he's in fine health and they bonded at once as he said the cat
chose him not the other way round
Also as a result of all this Adam is being pestered by his kids to
have a cat so he's going to the rescue in a week or so to select one
or two (he's open to the idea they would be company for each other)
cats rather than kittens since he wants to be sure of their
temperament around children. He's looking for a younger cat (or cats)
but not a kitten
So there are some happy endings for the New Year already

It's so good to hear an older cat has got a new home and that two more cats
are going to be able to train young slaves.

It sounds like a perfect match. Wonderful news that a older cat gets a
chance at another home.

What a great story! I wish them both well, and I expect reports and
pictures. :) I hope the cat is a good mouser! Can they tell at the
shelter?

Sounds like it. That's wonderful. (Ditto on the reports and pics.)

Alas I have never met Dave's brother and he hasn't seen him since he
was 16- long story they are just starting to build some sort of
relationship so I will probably get occasional progress reports but
not sure about photos- still if I get them I will post them

It is about the saddest thing in the world to hear about a cat whose
human has passed away, and the poor kitty winds up in a shelter, after
many years in a loving home :-(
It sure is nice to hear that a human and a kitty who need each other
(badly!) have found each other. It's so nice the kitty didn't have to
wait very long at all in the shelter.
Ten year old kitties often stay at shelters for a very long time, hoping
for a new home.
This is such a great story!
And of course, anything at all that leads to yet more kitties getting a
forever home is also a good story too!
